A LOOK INSIDE TIGER IN THE OFFICE Begin the Journey “When you are driving to work in the morning or taking the subway or the train, do you ever look around at the other people and wonder what they are doing with their careers? Are they happy? Are they fulfilled? How did they figure out what to do in their careers? It is possible that they too are dealing with some of the same career dilemmas that face you, but you have to admit that just the sheer number of people is a good indication that there are a lot of different opportunities to pursue. If, that is, you can just figure out a way to connect with them and choose the path that will give you the most personal satisfaction That is what we want to explore in this book. How do you go about tapping into the vast wealth of potential opportunities and pursue those situations that will give you the satisfaction that you deserve? What are these opportunities? How do people find them? Can you even create some of them on your own? […] Think about the degree of control that a tiger must have in his or her environment. They certainly do not wait for weak prey to walk across their path. A tiger is always on the prowl, looking for an opportunity. In fact, one would argue that a tiger is a relentless hunter even when it is not necessarily hungry. You want to embrace the idea that you are in control. That you are on the prowl and looking for opportunities and that you will achieve the desired results in your terms, not someone else’s. This book is aimed at those individuals who want to be in control of their career quest and are willing to take the risks and accept the uncertainty of being accountable for their lives and their careers.”

A MORE PERFECT UNION Connecting the Dots Between Today’s Politics and the History of Political Thought By Antonio W. Campbell Being an American citizen today carries with it more rights and responsibilities than those possessed by any previous generation. Conservatives and liberals alike interpret the Constitution to define and protect our rights and separate the responsibilities of individuals from those of the federal government, and yet very few have read the document in total or understand how the founders of the Republic made the decisions surrounding our laws over 225 years ago. In A More Perfect Union, Campbell applies the great political writing of the past to contemporary issues of today, connecting the rich political thought our Constitution stems from to how it is applied in the practice of modern politics. He asks profound questions about the policy initiatives that are necessary if American society is to survive. Our founders anticipated debates between citizens with different opinions of what is right or wrong in American society and government; A More Perfect Union provides the groundwork to fuel those discussions as we further the “American experiment” illustrated in the American Constitution.

HUMAN EVOLUTION Processes and Adaptations By Steven J. C. Gaulin

It has been suggested that a species comes of age not when its members master intergalactic travel, but when they understand the reasons for their own existence. Thanks to Darwin, Mendel, and their disciples, we can focus a scientific lens on human nature and begin to explain why humans are the way they are. Human Evolution: Processes and Adaptations develops the theory and methods of the modern evolutionist and applies this tool kit to both describe and explain the biological traits that define our species. Using many lively analogies, the book makes current research accessible to beginning readers. Topics addressed in the book include natural selection, genetics, adaptation, speciation and classification, making sense of the fossil record, and the evolutionary pressures that have made humans relatively unique. The evolution of behavior is discussed with focus on altruism, tool use, and language, as well as sex and sexuality. In addition, chapters address human variation in an evolutionary context, adaptive radiations, our relationship with archaic humans, and measuring the recent impact of evolution on our species. Human Evolution: Processes and Adaptations teaches students that science is not simply a body of knowledge. It is a method for acquiring and refining knowledge. The book is designed to engage and intellectually challenge, allowing students to stretch their mental muscles and truly become evolutionary thinkers. 978-1-5165-1221-8 | 258 Pages | $82.95 | Š 2017

TAKING PEOPLE SERIOUSLY A Defense of Ethical Theory By Linda L. Williams

Why should we study ethics if no one ethical theory is the right one? The answer Taking People Seriously: A Defense of Ethical Theory provides is a simple one. While all ethical theories are not alike, and no single theory is problem free, ethical theories do have something in common. They are all attempts at pulling people out of their self-centeredness and shifting their focus to finding the best way to treat others. Taking People Seriously gives readers a fresh and original answer to basic philosophical questions about human conduct. It specifically argues against both ethical egoism and ethical relativism, the two most prevalent theories readers hold when entering college. While the answer provided in the text is simple, putting it into practice requires skills of subtle discernment and nuance, and it explains why anybody and everybody would benefit from taking other people seriously. Taking People Seriously is designed for introductory or survey courses in normative ethics.

MEDITATION Waking Up to Life By Americ Azevedo

Written for the people who have a meditation practice and for those who have never meditated, Meditation: Waking Up to Life is a collection of spontaneous reflections on meditation and daily life. Short passages express the flavor of the meditative experience. Meditation is different for each person. There is no right or wrong way; there is no successful or unsuccessful outcome. Focusing on results is antithetical to the meditative process. In hopes of freeing you to come up with your own

personal experience and practice, the author leaves his thoughts: Let go, relax. Be present. Here-and-Now. Find a moment, any moment; anywhere; any time; right now. Meditate into Life.
