Tower House Studio 1 Project 1
The “Tower House” is a dormitory design for the “Hall House” halfway house expansion. The base of the design comes from researching Constructivist art and architecture, which was a reaction to the idea of “art for art’s sake.” The art form was more in favor of a direction towards a social purpose and finding meaning in each creation. Such as the constructivist artist intended, this design set out to get a reaction out of its users while maintaining its sense of use and purpose. I started by creating an example of a constructivist art piece of my own as a concept, while using ideas such as views, connections to the site and form as a way of direction. From there I was able to use the art piece to help with the layout of the design. During the process of this studio much research was intended for our project while coming to understand the idea of a concept and how to turn it into a design.

Phase One Downtown UTSA Campus Studio 1 Project 2
The Phase one of the Downtown UTSA campus project was a slightly larger scaled project that required a lot of attention to detail. Building assembly and detailed sections were part of the ideology of the studio and a introduction to how buildings are built. The concept of the project began with the idea of breaking the regularity of circulation and the common idea of stacking of floors. The ramped circulation was an appropriate installation for a school of higher education because of the metaphor of moving towards higher goals and dreams. The design of the building attempts to incorporate the user and how they come to interpret and experience the building. The context of the material takes reference to the surrounding San Antonio vocabulary.

San Antonio Stacks Studio 2 Project 1
San Antonio Stacks was a project based on the concept of interconnectivity and utilization of space given the limitations of an urban in filled site. The site dimensions were 28' x 140' and the program asked for a cafe, book store, research area, and living space for the owners and their children. The design solution began with a diagramming of the space needed in order to understand the layout of the project. From there it was noted that the best way for the project to incorporate the idea of the concept and provide adequate space for the program requirerments was to implement half and split floors within the layout. Some of those floors would be accessible by ramp or by stairs and each of which is connected to the vertical circulation located at the entrance of the project. For the exterior of the design a double skin shading system was implemented due to the fact that some of the books that were to be on displace were stated to be over a hundred years old. This requirements provided the project with a much needed modern design that still blended itself in perfectly within the context.

Concepcion Park Studio 2 Project 2
The design of the Mission Concepcion Park began with the research of voronoi + delaunay diagrams, each of these diagrams can be used for many reasons and methods in order to calculate triangulations and the metric space. This led to the concept of implementing this digital tool to the project in order to define where specific areas of the park should be located and where people should come to interaction. First a series of diagrams were created in order to understand different locations of the park and how they can be used. From there a collection of both voronoi + delaunay diagrams were laid over the site. The diagrams help provide the necessary information for the design of the park.

San Antonio Health and Wellness Studio 3
By using the examples from the context surrounding the site, the design of the San Antonio Health and Wellness Center is able to allow the user to be integrated within the inspiration the project is trying to portray. The project takes from the local public parks and community centers and begins to try to incorporate them in a way where it encourages the visitors to want to explore and continue their motivation to keep exercising. The design of the center creates a new park for San Antonio by using a green roof structure that allows the user to access other forms of exercise and tranquility. With its inviting entrance and free flowing floor plans the San Antonio Health and Wellness Center allows those who visit to feel welcomed and comfortable while they enjoy the other accommodations provided within the project, such as a healthy cafe, an interactive exhibition space, doctors + dentist offices and a full size gym. The San Antonio Health and Wellness center is a perfect example of how to implement new and modern urban in fill into an existing context.

Luminaria Design Charrette Competition
Luminaria is a yearly festival held by the city of San Antonio were hundreds of artists are invited to participate. Over 100,000 people came to wittiness all the amazing art work on display over a 10 block area. The Luminaria project shown was a design charrette competition held by the A.I.A.S chapter at UTSA. They broke up the competitors into groups from there each group had to choose a design leader. I was chosen head designer for our group and preceded to come about designing the winning entree. The project theme is about growing energy because in today's society people do not pay full attention to how energy is used and most actually wish it were possible just to grow it out of the ground. The project plays with this idea and shows exactly that. The project is made out of eight free standing florescent bulbs placed on a black colored base. The project was also featured in the San Antonio Express News.
