Dear Parents, Carers, Guardians of Pupils, Staff and Governing Bodies Proposed Expansion of Jo Richardson Community School for September 2015 You may be aware that the borough is experiencing a much greater demand for school places and in order to respond to this demand, the Council has planned for the steady increase of school places in the primary sector over the last few years, whilst closely monitoring the secondary age pupil population. These primary children will need a place in a Secondary School. Hence the forecast for the secondary school population is for a steady increase over the next 10 years with some years having more prominent increases. The Council have an on-going programme for the expansion of both Primary and Secondary Schools and for new schools and this has to be kept under review in the light of changes implemented by Government for providing new schools that includes other parties as providers for education. Jo Richardson Community School has been asked by the Council to accommodate an additional 60 pupils per year group, beginning with the Year 7 intake in September 2015. The school has agreed to this and we will work in partnership to ensure the school has the support it needs to accommodate the additional pupils. It is worth noting that: Eastbrook Comprehensive School agreed to expand its secondary provision by 2 Forms of Entry from September 2017 and also to extend their age range to incorporate primary aged pupils from September 2016. Eastbury Comprehensive School agreed to extend their age range to incorporate primary aged pupils from September 2015 (brought forward by one year).

We are therefore considering a permanent expansion of the Jo Richardson Community School. As mentioned above, we know that there is demand in the area for more school places, due to the steep rise in the birth rate over the past 7-8 years, and with some additional classrooms, the school site does lend itself to expansion. If you have any views about these proposals, I would be pleased to receive them by no later than 21st November 2014 in writing at the address at the foot of this letter.

Yours sincerely
