Kansas City Hotelier, Barney Allis, dies unexpectedly at age 62. Auditorium Plaza renamed to “Barney Allis Plaza”
1970 Civic leaders question the value of an elevated plaza park in the downtown

The Urban Land Institute’s Technical Assistance Panel recommends the demolition and full replacement of Barney Allis due to deteriation and numerous code violations.

KANSAS CITY KINGS - MUNICIPAL HALL • The Kansas City-Omaha Kings originated in 1972 after their move from Cincinnati. • Their first two seasons (1972, 1973) were played in Muncipal Hall OTHER MUNICPAL HIGHLIGHTS • The arena hosted 3 of the first 4 final fours - hosting it’s last one in 1964. - Up until 2013 - no other arena had hosted more NCAA
tournament games.
• Hosts the Big 12 Women’s Tournament • The UMKC Kangaroos play their home games in the arena. • The permanent home of the NAIA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.
