Three Things You Should Know Before Purchasing Homes for Sale in Kansas City, MO

A move to a city as big and vibrant as Kansas City, MO can be daunting. After all, it is the largest city in the state and home to approximately 475,361 people – making it the 37th most populated city in the country. If you are having second thoughts on purchasing homes for sale here and moving to this fair and magical city, then you should consider these three fun facts.

Its Other Name Is ‘Paris of the Plains’

Kansas City is considered one of the many places that made jazz and blues famous. Exploding in the 1920’s these music genres helped define a whole generation of musicians and even paved the way for some interesting urban myths, like how it used to be called the devil’s music because of its sultry and alluring rhythm. It also does not help that every club that played jazz and blues during that time had freely violated every rigid rule set by the prohibition era.

Due to its fondness for jazz and blues (and all the wild, ‘sinful’ scenes that come with it), the city was dubbed Paris of Plains. Even today, jazz and blues are widely played in music festivals and clubs within the area. Just goes to show that residents do know how to have a pretty good time.

The Tale of Two Cities

Actually, there is just one Kansas City – it just happens that it is so big two states need to share it. Kansas City in Missouri is located on the east side of the river while Kansas City in Kansas is located on the west side of the Missouri River, just across the state line.

While it is deeply confusing, especially for those who are not familiar with the area, the best way to distinguish between the two is to remember that Kansas City in Missouri (KCMO) is downtown with its numerous shops, galleries, museums, and airport. Kansas City in Kansas (KC), on the other hand, is more suburban with the new mixing with older neighborhoods.

The biggest irony is that the two versions of Kansas City are polar opposites of each other. It’s like looking at identical twins who intensely dislike each other.

Famous for Strip Steak and Barbeques

If you are an absolute fan of delicious flavors, then you shouldn’t miss taking a bite of the city’s famous barbecue and strip steak. There are over 100 barbecue restaurants more than willing to feed hungry customers. Let your mouth water with all the sumptuous smoked ribs and pulled pork you can eat. The city also holds an annual barbeque contest to honor their two specialties.

Living in Kansas City, MO will surely put a big smile on your face every day. Despite the fact the residents are serious workers with a median household income of $50,259, they still don’t forget to let their hair down and have fun. The city provides a nice, healthy balance of work and play for its citizens.
