Chicago Children’s Hospital This proposal utilizes an efficient floor plate design in order to create both a fully functioning hospital and multiple communal/family zones throughout the building. An inter woven ground and second floor provide large communal gathering spaces for patients, visitors and staff. The openness continues on the Cafeteria floor with connections to the outside, admin lobby and atrium space leading up to the patient floors. These spaces are not only experiential but provide discovery and re-discovery for all involved in these taxing times. This is further emphasized on the patient floors with multiple family gathering spaces that provide solace from the main hospital program. Lastly the hospital is capped off with a garden and playground on the roof allowing for patients, visitors and staff to experience the outdoors while still being enclosed in the building.

Trakya, School of Architecture This proposal utilizes both the exsisting structure and a new addition to create an integration of new and old. Exploding the back of the building allowed for the growth of the building whithout any loss of sq ft. The building face was untouched in order to preserve the historic premise. The back wall was interwoven with a glazed wall running through the additions. The wall created new gallery spaces and lightwells for crit and gallery spaces. The bottom floor provides an amphitheatre overlooking the back wall and addition. The building consists of three floors and an admin level above the main enrance hall. The ground floor is the main public floor consisting of the cafe, gallery, admin and library spaces. The other two floors consist of the private area which include the classroom and studio spaces.

Charter Middle School This proposal utilizes the corner condition and the full extends of the site. This helped create an urban asthetic to the Middle school and correspond to the souroundings buildings in downtown birmingham. The auditorium, cafe and library spaces braced the park entrance bridging the transition to the private side of the school. The classrooms and subsequent program ran along 16th and 5th street. The form of the building encloses a large green space. The green space consists of an amphitheatre which connects to the cafe and is open to the large hall adjacent to the classroom. The green space provides a sanctuary from the city beyond its walls and a connection to the civil rights park across the street.

Fully Accessible House The main concept behind this house was to make it fully accessible. The house consists of three bedrooms and a guest wing. The house provides access to an exterior courtyard from every space in the house. The public spaces face the street front and help enclose the private spaces towards the back. The guest wing is located at the back of the site and can be accessed from the outside of the house allowing for privacy for each tenant.

Site Plan - Arboretum
Arboretum Pavillion The pavilion acts as a transition space between the outside and the inside. The plan is symmetrical to further emphaze this from the sporadic exterior space. The large classroom and gallery spaces are locted of the south side and provide views out into the arboretum. The main entrance opens up into a lobby space which holds and interior courtyard. The idea behind the courtyard was to provided an outdoor feeling in the doors further emphazing the transition from in and out.

Site Plan - Lake Martin, AL
Lake Martin - Lake House The lake house is located on a steep lake front site. The main concept behind the house was to provide numerous views towards the lake. In order to achieve this the house is broken down into segments and each segment containing a different view out towards the lake. This scheme helped provide a small footprint on the site for further expansion later. The main level consists of the public spaces and the lower levels consist of the private program.

Bookstore Facade
Bookstore Facade The main concept behind the bookstore was to create a multi function facade. The bookstore facade consists of numerous curved pieces that intersect with each other. The intersecting points allow for glazing and reading rooms. These spaces inhabit the facade making the structure the function.

Blakely Firehouse The main concept of the firehouse was the use of planes running horizontally through the building and sunsequently dividing the large space of the program into four sections. The planes create four smaller spaces and are connected through clearstories. The west facade is exposed and the tower acts as a landmark for the city.

Concrete Bench Design The main objective of the project was to create a concrete piece of furniture less 200lbs and provide seating for 3 persons. The bench consists of three different materials wood, pervious concrete and normal concrete. In order to maintain the feel of a bench and still be asthetically pleasing the, bench is broken into two pieces. The main piece of the bench is the rectangular concrete block which holds the bench together and provides a division between the seating area. The second piece is the inverted L which consists of the coloured concrete and wood pieces to providea a more comfortable seating experience and have a more pleasing look.

Sustainable Roof Design Charged with the creation of a sustainable roof made from recyclable materials. The design is very simple and efficient, consiting of three materials empty sprite bottles, empty doritos packets and a mat board. The mat board provides the base layer, and the doritos packets lays on top of the mat board making it water proof. The sprite bottles provide an interesting look and work really well a roofing shingles or sheets if connected.
