LED CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

WARNING – RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO SERVICE

Global Tech LED Retrofit Kits are typically installed in a fixture enclosed with a gasketed diffuser. These diffusers vary in construction materials, i.e., Borosilicate glass, Polycarbonate or other composite materials. In addition, they may be clear or prismatic and environmental conditions vary widely. Therefore, the schedule for general cleaning and maintenance of these diffusers should be done in accordance with the fixture manufacturer’s guidelines. During an HID to LED conversion, you may notice that the diffusers may have become brittle, yellowed, scratched or damaged due to the high heat and years of service. In this case, it is essential to replace the diffuser to ensure maximum light output. During periodic inspection, the LED emitters may be cleaned using the method described below. In situations where the retrofit is not enclosed with a gasketed diffuser and the LEDs are directly exposed: Excessive dust and debris may cause a drastic decrease in optical output. In the event that an LED emitter requires cleaning, first try a gentle swabbing using a lint-free swab or cloth. If needed, a lint-free swab or cloth and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) can be used to gently remove dirt from the lens. Do not use other solvents as they may adversely react with the LED assembly. The LED package contains a silicone overcoat and dome to protect the LED chip and extract the maximum amount of light. As with most silicones used in LED optics, care must be taken to prevent any incompatible chemicals from directly or indirectly reacting with the silicone. If the LED emitters are covered by optics designed to change the light distribution pattern, use the same cleaning procedures as described above. Global Tech LED’s Retrofit Kits are installed in a wide variety of applications and environments. There are many issues come into play when determining Light Loss Factor (LLF) values. Prediction of these can be particularly difficult depending on the application. We are dealing with two classifications of LLF: Recoverable and Non-Recoverable. Recoverable LLF are factors that are attributable to cleaning and maintenance, (Luminaire Dirt Depreciation, LDD). This is covered in document GTL-LCM-2O11. Non-Recoverable LLF are factors attributed to changes that occur when the system is in operation, or other degradation that is cannot be improved by cleaning and maintenance. For example: the current at which the LED’s are driven, junction temperature, ambient temperature, etc. Global Tech LED’s InSitu temperature measurement test is between 60 – 63.6ºC, which is very close to the 55ºC published by Philips on their LM80 report. (See document DR04_20110419, page 17). You can use this information to begin with a general assumption of our LLF. Further complicating the issue of calculating LLF is Global Tech LED’s optional proprietary Lumen Maintenance program, which measures and incrementally increases power to the LED engine in order to keep the light levels as close to its initial output as possible. This is an exceptional innovation unique to Global Tech LED’s products.

Plate Retrofit

Optimize the Module for the Fixture

1. Remove the reflector, socket, and all other existing components from the fixture.

2. Place retrofit plate into position in the fixture. Generally the reflector screw holes are used to hold the retrofit plate. If your driver is not installed on the plate, securely fasten the driver to the inside of the fixture.

3. Connect Positive, negative, and ground to the existing wiring to the fixture using snap-action connectors. ** Secure any loose wires with zip ties to prevent them from interacting with the fan on the light module.**

6

Optimize the Module for the Fixture

1. Remove the reflector, but leave the socket. Disconnect the yoke from the existing power (existing power will be connected to the driver later).

2. Screw the light module yoke retrofit into the existing socket. Mount the driver and connect red and blue leads from the driver and the module (using snap-action connectors). **Secure all wires with wire-ties to prevent interaction with the fan.**

3. Connect the driver’s Positive and negative leads (generally black and white) to the existing power using snap-action connectors

Power Mode Selection Optimize the Module for the Application

Program Dip switch: Program Selection - You can currently select 1 of 2 programs, as indicated by the dot allocation on the left side of the Dip Switch.

Functions: STD: A default setting unit is on at all times. 561 energy saver program (sav): When this option is selected it allows the customer to operate outdoor lamps at 100% output for the first 5 hours of operation, dimming 50% for 6 late evening hours, than ramping back up to 100% output for the last hour of the evening. This useful program saves 3 hours of operation per night which results in savings over 1,100 hours per year! Dim Sink (default): This selection is to be used when a motion sensor or dimming switch are active. Sink means that you are using a dimming ballast or controller that provides the 10v power so the control device adjusts the voltage to your needs.

Wattage Dip switch: Program Selection - You can currently select 1 of 4 wattage setting, as indicated by the dot allocation on the right side of the Dip Switch. Both models feature 4 wattage selections: 5498- High Output, High, Med High, and Med Low M21- High, Med High, Med Low and Low When both switches are positioned at the center of the board this indicates that you will be performing at the highest level of output.

Please Refer to page 4 for Technical Specifications of the Wattage Selections for both Modules

Wireless Sensor Module

Optimize the Module for the Application Global Tech LED invented a Wireless Module which facilitates Dimming and Instant On/Off Control using either Photocell or Motion Sensor or both. It is engineered with simple mapping software, and utilizes radio protocols for Zigbee, Synapse or others typically found in the industry. When a motion sensor is engaged the Solstice is turned ON to 100% Output for 15 minutes. When no motion is detected after 15 minutes the Solstice can be set to either 20% or 50% Dimming or OFF. The Photocell or Motion Sensor must be installed within 500 feet of the Solstice Product using (20AWG) wiring for 0-10vdc sensor controls. The system is setup at installation and is automatically optimized to provide high performance for the Solstice LED product. The Module integrates seamlessly with most of the major manufacturers of 0-10 VDC sensors such as Lutron, SensorSwitch, WattStopper.

Programming the Wireless Module: Our unique selectable dip-switch identifies the task. The 5-dip switch input selector tells the Wireless Module what the control task is going to be. We provide a detailed list of devices with corresponding switch selections. The control selection is a 10-dip switch selector where you code who is following who. Switch 1-5 controls 1 device, and 6-10 controls a second device. In some situations, you may require 2 control devices controlling the same fixture. For example, let’s say you have a motion sensor and you want it to control 2 fixtures. You would first set the input switch to designate a motion sensor and 2 light sources. On the control side you would configure all three devises with the same code (1-5). At this point, the 2 light sources will be controlled by the motion sensor: simple! The controller does not need to be connected to the Internet in order for the system to work. In most cases, once the system is configured, the need to reconfigure the settings is minimal. For those clients that wish to have more control on a daily basis, the system can be set up using the Internet. Additional equipment will be required to operate the system along with yearly maintenance fees. This option will provide the remote monitoring of lights, collection of fixture data, such as temperature, service hours, energy usage, etc. and makes it easy to view or control lighting over the Internet.
