Focus Group Does the colour scheme work? I think the bright colours on the front cover work really well with the dark picture as the background, as it instantly caught my eye. The black against white on the contents page was effective because it was clean and made it very easy to read. The white font against an allblack background was different as a double-page spread is typically black font on white. The blue title was a nice feature as it blended into the background but still stood out. Does the layout work? The layout on the front cover was good because it was fairly empty which drew the attention straight to the image, however I think it could have done with a few more cover lines as it makes the reader think there isn’t as much content. The contents page had a very clear layout which made everything easy to find. It was smart yet still appealed to the target audience. The double-page spread was also well done, the quote stood out really well I thought. Does the masthead work with the colour scheme? The colour scheme was mainly black and white and the masthead matched this. I thought the masthead really stuck to the hip hop/grime genre of the magazine. Do the photos link with the text?
I think all of the photos link to the text well, especially the contents page. There was a picture of an album cover next to its heading ‘Album Talk’. Name one positive and one negative about the full product. Negative: I thought the front cover could have done with a few more cover lines to make the reader feel like they were getting their money’s worth. That being said, I think with the picture and space left on the cover, any more would make it look overcrowded. Positive: The overall appearance of the magazine was very well thought about. Every page was clean, easily visible and had a good layout.
