Fonts, conventions and designs that caught my eye
TYPOGRAPHY I found this text online and it caught my eye. I really like the scratched and worn feel to the text and I think a typeface in this style would fit in well with the genre of my magazine.
TYPOGRAPHY I like this design a lot; It has a professional feel to it and typography in this manner would help to keep my design smart, however because of its professionalism, my audience may find it harder to relate to my magazine.
ALBUM COVER The American flag is included in A$AP’s album cover. Hip hop originated from America and therefore the majority of the audience is American, so including the country’s flag in a unique way will make the audience feel closer to the genre.
PICTURE Hip hop is often associated with dance. The Model sitting on the boom box links back to old school hip hop when the two were seen hand in hand.
TYPOGRAPHY This typeface caught my eye online. The culture of hip hop often relates to poverty and crime, graffiti, which is vandalism, would be a good, relatable typeface to include in my magazine, as in many cases, the hip hop audience also come from similar backgrounds to the artists.
PICTURE This picture is well choreographed. The group, Run DMC, are all in different poses. They all show different sides to the industry; the tough, violent and serious side, the smart, wealthy and idolised side, and the humorous, relaxed and more relatable side.
PICTURE This picture shows a young black male playing music in a club. I like this image because it is typically represents the genre of hip hop, which would again make the magazine better recognised with the genre. This type of image would be good to include in either my contents page or my dps.
ALBUM COVER Tattoos, guns and violence are often associated with the hip hop culture, although, if my target audience is as young as 16, this may not be a good type of picture to include for my first publication in the business. However, I do like this image as it represents the darker, more familiar side to the genre.
ALBUM COVER Wiley is looking up into the distance. Many rappers in the game started with very little and the only thing that kept them going was their dream, as often spoken about in their songs. Including a picture in this manner would maybe make the audience relate to the featured artists more.
CLOTHING Clothing associated with the genre: hats/hoods, baggy clothing, hoodies, puffer jackets etc. Including clothing such as this in my magazine with ensure it is easily recognisable as a hip hop magazine.
