Guidance and counselling Career At the start of the Moraitis IB, students take specialised career guidance tests focussing on aptitudes, personality traits and occupational interests and are guided by three qualified psychologists / counsellors on a one-toone basis for their selection of future studies and career choices as well as their choice of the appropriate IB subjects. All students are also provided with psychological support throughout the two years.

University A total of eleven university counsellors help students with their university and college applications world-wide. Each counsellor is a specialist in their respective area for admissions, drawing on many years of experience. Our students have a strong tradition in placements at top universities for Science, Medicine, Psychology, Engineering, Law, Economics, Business and Architecture, as well as excellent placements for Art, Music, Theatre and Classics.

Our ‘university atmosphere’ is unique Hands-on experience is offered through school activities, which often combine different IB subjects and integrate with real world projects of international importance, such as the annual trip to CERN. Whilst there, not only prospective scientists and engineers, but also artists and business students, ask questions with the scientists, discussing the major issues. This way, the knowledge, communication skills and creative processes are enriched for the benefit all. Participation in IT and ECB competitions for computer scientists, economics and business students, music recitals for musicians, an annual art exhibition at the National Gallery for architects and artists and the production of student devised plays at BIOS and the Benaki Museum for theatre students, contribute to students’ success in the IB and strengthen their university applications.

A’ Lykeio / Pre-IB Students wanting to bridge the Greek curriculum with the IB Diploma Programme can enrol in the Moraitis A’Lykeio/ Pre-IB year to benefit their transition by being in the same school environment, taught by IB teachers. The new approaches to learning in the IB will be introduced throughout the year. Skills such as asking a good research question, developing a line of inquiry, evaluating evidence from different sources, analysing data collected, writing different types of report and presenting individual and group projects, will be incorporated into the Greek curriculum.

Moraitis IB - beyond the classroom Clubs / debate / MUN / sport / volunteering

Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to 40 different clubs, varying from debate to football, which contribute to CAS, a core requirement for the IB Diploma. CAS also includes raising funds for charities by organizing events such as TEDx and the Literature YOUTH festival as well as volunteering such as the Finish Liners at the Athens Marathon.

Invited speakers / workshops / trips / CERN

Teachers at Moraitis IB extend their lessons beyond the classroom to local and international cultural, political and scientific events and issues. Many teachers are qualified to postgraduate level (Master/PhD) and many continue to be active as writers, researchers and artists, in addition to supporting the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)*. All teachers and the school are evaluated constantly by the IBO to maintain the international standards of teaching excellence. “The school provides highly qualified staff to teach the programme.” “The school offers a remarkable variety of DP courses to address students’ interests and needs with a comprehensive curriculum.” IBO, The Moraitis School IB Evaluation Report 2016 Conferences attended by teachers support their professional development and a number of our teachers lead IB workshops for the European / Africa / Middle East IBO region. * IBO, an independent non-governmental organization under the auspices of Europe and UNESCO Council, issued a license to The Moraitis School

Specific university preparation Medicine and Dentistry In the UK, extra examinations are needed for Medicine, Dentistry. UCAT is needed

by the majority of Medical Schools, with BMAT being required by the rest. We offer afternoon courses and workshops for preparing for these exams. Both UCAT and BMAT are accepted for entry into various Medical Schools in Europe and Asia. The BMAT course offered is also relevant for the Irish Medical exam HPAT and the Italian IMAT.

Law Prospective Law students are also supported with a preparation course for LNAT,

for universities in the UK. The Moraitis Mock Trial, exclusive in Greece in collaboration with The Lawyer Portal, gives students role playing experience of a genuine UK trial.

Oxbridge Students applying to Oxford or Cambridge

(and European Social & Political studies at UCL) can prepare with a Thinking Skills Assessment course.

Interviews Workshops and Mini Multiple interview (MMI) Circuit training are organised in early IB2 in collaboration with The Medic Portal and the British Royal Society of Medicine. US & Canada Individual meetings with the US and Canada counselling office start in IB1. Application completion workshops and essay writing workshops led by American and Canadian university representatives and the Moraitis IB counsellors are offered throughout the year for both IB1 and IB2 students. IB can earn credits for courses in the US and Canada.

University representatives are invited to the school to give presentations and to enable all students to ask specific questions. Imperial College, LSE, King’s College and UCL representatives visit every November. Success at university depends on many skills in addition to academic excellence. Our IB develops the independent learning style, with students taking responsibility for their research and learning. This broad education is recognised by universities as equipping our students with independent research and essay writing skills, with the time management experience and problem-solving approach needed for the future.
