Guidance and counselling Career At the start of the Moraitis IB, students take specialised career guidance tests focussing on aptitudes, personality traits and occupational interests and are guided by three careers counsellors on a one-to-one basis for their selection of future studies and career choices as well as their choice of the appropriate IB subjects. All students are also provided with psychological support throughout the two years by three qualified psychologists.
University A total of eleven university counsellors help students with their university and college applications world-wide. Each counsellor is a specialist in their respective area for admissions, drawing on many years of experience. Our students have a strong tradition in placements at top universities for Science, Medicine, Psychology, Engineering, Law, Economics, Business and Architecture, as well as excellent placements for Art, Music, Theatre and Classics.
Our ‘university atmosphere’ is unique Hands-on experience is offered through school activities, such as the trip to CERN for prospective scientists and engineers (see photo above), participation in ECB competitions for economics and business students, music recitals, an annual art exhibition for architects and artists (above) and the production of student devised plays at Athens theatres, including BIOS and the Benaki Museum (above), for drama students. These activities contribute to students’ success in the IB and strengthen their university applications.
Get a head start Students wanting to bridge the Greek curriculum with the IB Diploma Programme can enrol in The Moraitis First Lykeio PreIB year to benefit their transition by being in the same school environment, taught by IB teachers. An IB Skills summer course for 2 weeks in June before IB1 enables students to become acquainted with the Moraitis IB ahead of the start to the two year Diploma Programme.

Teachers at Moraitis IB extend their lessons beyond the classroom to local and international cultural, political and scientific events and issues. Many teachers are qualified to postgraduate level (Master/PhD) and many continue to be active as writers, researchers and artists, in addition to supporting the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)*. All teachers and the school are evaluated constantly by the IBO to maintain the international standards of teaching excellence. “The school provides highly qualified staff to teach the programme.” “The school offers a remarkable variety of DP courses to address students’ interests and needs with a comprehensive curriculum.” IBO, The Moraitis School IB Evaluation Report 2016 * IBO, an independent non-governmental organization under the auspices of Europe and UNESCO Council, issued a license to The Moraitis School in 1984 and appointed the school as the November examinations centre for all IB schools in the Athens area.
Specific university preparation Medicine In the UK, extra examinations are needed for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. UKCAT is needed by the majority of Medical Schools, with BMAT being required by the rest. We offer afternoon courses and workshops for preparing for these exams. The BMAT course offered is also relevant for the Irish Medical exam HPAT and the Italian IMAT. Law Prospective Law students are also supported with a preparation course for LNAT. Oxbridge Students applying to Oxford or Cambridge (and European Social & Political studies at UCL) can prepare with a TSA course. Interviews Workshops are organised in early IB2 in collaboration with the British Royal Society of Medicine. US & Canada SAT I Mathematics and Verbal courses are also offered during IB1 so that students have the opportunity to take the exams several times to maximise their performance. SATII courses in specific subjects are offered during early IB2. The US, Canada and some universities in Europe may request the IELTS or TOEFL, which students can take during the summer of IB1 - IB2. IB grades can earn credits for courses in the US and Canada.
University representatives are invited to the school to give presentations and to enable all students to ask specific questions. Above, Imperial College, LSE, King’s College and UCL representatives visited in November 2016. Success at university depends on many skills in addition to academic excellence. Our IB develops the independent learning style, with students taking responsibility for their research and learning. This broad education is recognised by universities as equipping our students with the independent research and essay writing skills, with the time management experience and problem-solving approach needed for the future.
The Moraitis School is an independent, co-educational, non-discriminatory institution fostering children and young people from kindergarten through high school.
