SHORELINE CLEAN-UP AT TE RANGIITA
Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board
Whānau at Te Rangiita got stuck in cleaning up debris buried along their shoreline in May.
With the lake sitting at a lower than usual level, a lot of rubbish, which would usually be submerged below the water line, was subsequently exposed. It is said the area was once a rubbish dump site back in the Ministry of Works days. An excavator was used to help remove debris. This included concrete, glass, timber and even old car motors. • “...Whānau have not been able to use the beach for a long time due to metal and steel protruding from below the sand, making it unsafe.”
