Term 4 co27& 28 Self Evaluation

Self Evaluation - Questions must be answered thoroughly - minimum 500 words. 1. How does your work and final design answer the brief of creating a design for a ost pandemic society? When I think about the post-pandemic world, I see wanderers. They either are on their adventures or just don't know where to go, what to do since they might have suffered a lot during the pandemic. The trend forecasting package is based on the thoughts of these wanderers, what attracted them, and how it works in their minds. To me, the important things in their minds are memories, which are connected to many things from their childhood to their origins. That leads to my concept, which is literally looking back at our memories. There is an element in my concept which I hope to bring to my customers a personal experience is the cyanotype prints. The prints would be made from photos that are valuable in sentiment to my customers and from that, I hope to help them cherish that memory. While doing the concept research and development, I also take a look back at my previous projects. This is to take my experiences and actually use them to develop my own skills and abilities. By combining the tailoring elements with elements from the past projects, adding the function while thinking about how my customers could use the garments, my final line-up is the most satisfying works I've ever done until now. There's definitely more room for me to grow and I'm not done on developing myself, but I hope to fulfill the given brief and more with the final design.

2. What about your work makes it unique? Well in this project, I have put my customer's experience ahead and focused on what I could give them aesthetically and functionally. It's a compromise of my imagination and reality, which I have lacked in the previous projects. I spent a lot of time and resources actually experimenting with the materials and somewhat I could say that I can apply it in reality. I'm confident to say that, I could satisfy my customers from the moment they touch the real garments.

3. How did you use trend in this unit? Highlight the main trends you selected and where they were applied? I'm not just applying physical trends into my concept but also the principle core of the trends. With the nostalgia trends, besides the silhouette development, I also apply the core of nostalgia which is the memory of a past time into the concept. Meanwhile, the sustainable - ethical trends give me the information to make sure my designs are actually checked in the box of sustainability from the materials to the making process.

4. What things did you learn from this unit and find interesting and/or useful? I learned to put myself in others' shoes to give the best results and develop my abilities. Also, by thinking ahead (forecasting), I trained my skills in predicting and tracking people's thoughts, actions.

5. Were there any areas you struggled with this unit? Well, I have never been good at predicting or seeing patterns, so I was a little bit struggling with forecasting macro trends.

6. How do you feel about starting term 5 and final collection? How many looks do you want to make and mens or womenswear? Right now, I have a lot in my mind for the final collection. I want to experiment more with the works I'm doing in term 4, finding a way to bring it to my collection without waste. I probably will do 8 looks with 4 men's 4 women, and I want to make sure that sustainability is always included.

7. What are your biggest strengths as a designer? I think my biggest strength as a designer is that I think and see stuff in geometrical space, which helps me visualize and drape what I imagined easily. Also, thanks to my background in science, I'm able to experiment more with alternative materials and methods.

8. What are your biggest weaknesses as a designer? I have always felt that I'm still way behind in the creative department. Seeing others' works, I clearly see that I'm not pushing the barriers enough and seem to always be afraid of the unfinished.

9. What have you learnt most about yourself from working with Mr Wilson? I'm honestly grateful that I could have the chance to study under his guidance. I'm always lacking confidence in my works and sometimes this leads to how I'm afraid to push my boundaries. Without Mr. Wilson, I don't think I could be at my current level and probably won't see where I could fit myself in the fashion industry.

10. Final thoughts? I'm still working on defining my design style, and I hope that with the final collection, I may see which way I should go and how I could develop myself to the fullest. And thank you, Mr. Wilson, without you I couldn't be at the level I am now and I wish you the best for everything you've done for us.
