The Beginning Genesis 1–2

I

n the beginning there was nothing but God. Then God started making things. He made the earth round, like a ball, with seas deep and blue. He planted trees and flowers. He lit up the earth with sunshine and hung the moon and twinkling stars in the sky. Then God made animals: Fishes that swim. Birds that fly. Wiggly-jiggly puppies. Soft kittens. Giraffes with tall, stretchy necks. All kinds of animals! And then God made people, a man and a woman. God looked at everything and said, “This is good!”

Thank You, God, for earth and sky, for pets and bugs and birds that fly. In the beginning God created the sky and the earth. — Genesis 1:1

God’s Big Flood Genesis 6–9

N

oah,” God said, “I want you to build a big boat.” So Noah obeyed. He built a huge boat! Noah, his family, and the animals, two of every kind, went inside. Splish-splash. Raindrops fell. Pitter-pat, pitter-pat. Faster. Whoosh! Down came the rain and the water went up. It rained for forty days! Then, after many, many days on the boat, down went the flood and the sun came out. “Thank You, God,” Noah said, “for keeping us safe and sound.”

God, help me hear Your words today so Your commands I can obey. Noah did everything that the Lord commanded him. —Genesis 7:5

Abraham and Sarah Genesis 15

A

braham and Sarah had no children. When they were very old, God said, “I have a wonderful plan. You will have many children, like the stars, too many to count.” God kept His promise. Abraham and Sarah had a son. Then grandchildren. Then great-grandchildren. One. Ten. Hundreds. More than they could count! Many years later, a baby boy was born into Abraham’s family, a special boy named Jesus.

Dear God, what are your plans for me? I wonder. I can’t wait to see! Abraham felt sure that God was able to do the thing that God promised. —Romans 4:21

Baby in a Basket Exodus 1–2

T

he Israelites became slaves to the king of Egypt. At the same time God’s family grew big and strong. That worried the mean king. “Let’s take away their baby boys!” he said. One mother hid her baby boy in a basket and placed the basket in a river. The king’s daughter found the baby. She named him Moses, and he grew up in the king’s palace. God kept him safe. He had big plans for Moses.

Father God, please watch over me. Keep me as safe as I can be. The Lord will keep you safe. —Proverbs 3:26

The Red Sea Exodus 14

M

oses was all grown up now. God said, “Moses, it’s time for the king to let My people go. Lead the Israelites out of Egypt.” Moses was afraid at first, but he obeyed God. And soon Moses and the Israelites came to the big Red Sea. The king’s army chased after them, and the Israelites felt trapped. “God, help us!” said Moses. Then God opened up the sea so all His people could walk on dry land to the other side.

I trust my God with everything because He can do anything! “The things impossible for men are possible for God.” —Luke 18:27
