Core Longing
Your Core Longing is the message your heart is always yearning to receive, what you’ve craved since you were a child. Throughout life, you’ve been striving to hear this message from your family members, friends, teachers, coaches, and bosses. No matter how much you’ve tried to get others to communicate this message to you, you’ve never felt it was delivered to the degree your heart needed it. As a Type 7, your Core Longing is to hear, “You will be taken care of.” You have believed that if you could be playful, versatile, and independent enough, then others would communicate this message to you, whether in

verbal or nonverbal ways. However, even those who have tried their best to do this for you are unable to satisfy this longing that runs so deep inside you. Why? Because people cannot give you all you need. Only God can. When you’re trying to receive this message apart from God, you will always thirst for more. But when you listen to Him and see that He’s drawing you to Himself, then you will find fulfillment and freedom. How does God meet your Core Longing? 1. He brings you satisfaction and contentment. Christ is your stream of living water that never runs dry and is always satisfying. As His beloved child, you can enjoy as much living water as you need. 2. He takes care of your needs. Christ knew that neither others nor you could take care of all your needs, so He came to provide for all your core needs in His saving work on your behalf.

CORE LONGING
When you feel trapped or missing out, use the Enneagram as the rumble strip to alert you of what is true: that you have all your heart’s needs and desires in God. Allow it to point out how you are believing false messages so you can live with more gratitude and deep joy for all of life.
