A WORD FROM THE STATE Legislative & Regulatory Hear it straight from the State Office

H-2B CAP RELIEF NEEDED FOR FY 2020 As we reported in the last Working For You update, the first half of the H-2B cap for next year was hit aat a record early time and experts expect the second half to go just as quickly. This means employers with a DOL certified need will be blocked from recieving these critical visas unless Congress extends discretionary cap relief to the Department of Homeland Security. Congress must pass a funding bill by December 20th or the government will face another shutdown. To be clear, there is currently no cap relief language included for this coming year. We need you to visit the TNLA Legislative Action Center and send an email to your Congressman urging thier support of H-2B cap relief in any final funding package they might pass. HOUSE SPEAKER RELEASES INTERIM CHARGES ON PESTICIDE AND LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION The Texas House of Representatives has been charged with studying a variety of topics of relevance to Texas green industry before the next legislative session in 2021. House Agriculture has been charged with studying the current approach and possible improvements to mitigating plant diseases and pesticide drift. The Environmental Regulation committee will be looking at the current regulation of landscape irrigation backflow prevention assemblies. Despite only being announced last week, TNLA has already begun conducting meetings with policymakers and stakeholders on these issues.
