LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY THE GREEN REPORT The team at TNLA started the Green Report Podcast as a way to bring you up-to-date on the news and politics that affect the green industry in Texas. From growers to landscapers and everyone in between, each business is impacted by the politicians, legislators, and regulators of every stripe and this is our effort to bring you up to speed on what you need to know. Start Listening Today...
RYAN & AMY GO TO DC At the semi-annual gathering of growers across the nation, TNLA represented the State of Texas at the AmericanHort Impact Washington Summit. We spent a day hearing from several Congressional leaders and Cabinet-level officials including Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Administrator Wheeler. The federal priorities of the green industry were discussed in detail including improving the H-2A program, granting HOS exemptions to trucks hauling horticulture products, and federal investments in specialty crop research. Secretary Perdue made it clear for all attendees that the USDA considers horticulture “bonafide agriculture” and he would work to make sure all facets of the federal government understood it. Armed with a list of talking points and legislative objectives for growers, TNLA met with the offices of Senator Cornyn and Cruz as well as eight Texas Congressmen. Overall, the major priorities of the group were well received and many of the office were aware of TNLA’s support for the trucking exemptions. (Our association had recently mailed every member of the Texas delegation a letter of support for HR 1673 and S 2025 “The Agriculture Trucking Relief Act of 2019”). If you haven’t already participated in our grassroots campaign, please visit our Legislative Action Center found on our website.
