01. Your ideal house - imm cologne Imm cologne is one of the largest international furniture fair. It is held in Cologne, Germany. Each yaer, besides commercial aspect of the fair, they also will invite designers to present their ideal houses which gives the visitors an opportunity to know the contemporary developments. Several designers such as Karim Rashid, Konstantin Grcic, the Campana brothers, Hella Jongerius, and so on, had been invited. And this year, Zaha Hadid & Naoto Fukasawa have been invited to show their point of view. While Hadid set up a cave-like house growing directly from the ground; Fukasawa developed a systematic space with surrounding objects integrated into the wall. www.imm-cologne.com www.designboom.com/snapshots/cologne07/ idealhome_naoto.html

03. MONOCLE - Brule rules! In 1990s, Wallpaper was launched, and since then, it became the most popular trend magazine in the world. And now, Tyler Brule, the founder of Wallpaper, has done it again. Monocle is the latest magazine by Brule. If you think Monocle is just an extension of Wallpaper, you are wrong. The content of Monocle includes Affairs, Business, Culture, Design and Edits(A,B,C,D,E.) It tells you everything around the world in a decent way. Want to know more about Japanese Self Defence Force? Or want to know what is happening in Oman? How about inside story of Tokyo Midtown? You might want to check this magazine! www.monocle.com

04. Tokyo Midtown grand opening! Tokyo is always at the top of the world in terms of fashion or trend. Before it is fashion, it is in Tokyo. Few years ago, we saw Roppongi Hills had been built up; last year, Tadao Ando's Omotesando gathered the spotlights; and now, just half mile from Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown has grand opened proudly. Besides fashion, Midtown provides more highend living needs, such as beauty, interiors, design and unique restaurants. "It is not about people with money, it's about people in Tokyo who have a sense of discernment," said Tetsuya Matsufuji, the PM of Tokyo Midtown. www.monocle.com

Hello! Mike & Katie! It's nice to have you here!
Your works are all so cute & colorful! How do
Please introduce yourself & TADO to our readers!
you start a character? Do they all have their own story? Which character is your favorite?
Hi! TADO is our partnership, we specialise in Illustration, Character Design, Animation, Toy Design,

How did you two get together?? Tell us a little bit romance? XD We met at University back in 2001 when a Uni tutor of ours suggested we try working together. We hit it off straight away and have been inseperable since! These days we live and work together in our home in sheffield. Its nice and we eat lots of nice things!!
character around this element. its not always that simple though! :):) some of our characters have stories, it depends on what they are being used for. quite often they will have stories and relationships with the characters around them but we dont go out of our way to explain this too much. we like to hear other people's interpretations of them! We're afraid we dont have particular favourites - it changes every week!
What inspires you the most? Our friends! we are very lucky to have some extremely talented friends. knowing people who are busy and active doing things they love keeps us excited and motivated.

As a duo, do you fight sometimes? over different opinions?? Of course! we tend to squabble a lot and bicker about work stuff because we know each other so well. we are like an old husband and wife! haha! we are each others harshest work critics so often we will disagree Which project so far is your favorite? the artwork itself that make the project a favourite with us. That said, some of our personal highlights would be the Smart Car project (most excellent people to work with!), The Intermix Exhibition Project, our 'Purity' animation, and more recently some work we've just finished for a branding agency in London called Communicator. The communicator project was one of the bigger projects we've taken on - it involved a re-brand of the company and then the accompanying website as well. The client was pretty much happy for us to go nuts with stuff and wanted a rich and crazy flash site. The theme for the project was 'channeled energy' so we created a world that revolved around the process of growing and developing ideas, as well as ecology. We teamed up with some really good friends of ours Unwrong who did all the hardcore coding and such which gave the little guys who inhabit the site world artificial intelligence. The site is set to go live in the next few weeks, we're very excited to see it happen!

Do you cook? What is your comfort food? We aren't the most amazing cooks in the world, but we do know how to make a mean pie - we tend to prefer the eating side of things though! Our comfort food would be buns from the chinese bakery near us!

Which city is your favorite? Why? Hmmm, thats a toughie! We do travel a lot but we tend to go to the same places! We love hong kong for its crazyness, and taipei for the people. We visited Chicago last year which was really nice and very different to what we expected. Dublin is our favourite place for drinking with friends!

What kind of music do you like? Which album is a must-buy? Is music a big factor that influence your works? We like a pretty wide range of stuff - music is always in the background in our home so we get through a lot of it! We like to go and see bands play with our friends - recently we went to see The Bouncing Souls who were supported by The Draft. That was a fantastic gig. If we had to pick one album it would be Against Me's 'Re-Inventing Axl Rose'. We're embarrassed to say that we're also huge fans of Puffy Ami Yumi....
If you have 1 month vacation, how are you going to spend it? We'd hope on a plane and finally make it to Japan. We've been trying to get out there since we left University 5 years ago! Every year we say we will go but never get round to it. We would love to work our way round the whole country, finishing off with a huge shopping binge in Tokyo. We have a lot of good friends out there as well whom we havent seen for a while. We'd go chill out with them and their mums and dads!
You have involved in many different fields: web design, graphics, magazines, t-shirts, interior, Ads.... What do you want to do next? We're always looking to find new and exciting stuff to do. If we could choose anything we'd love to design a crazy concept car for Honda, make our own clothing label with properly designed garments, and open a

store! We'd love to work for the council of our city, Sheffield as well. There are some really run-down areas which we'd love to make over! :D:D You seem to be so happy and energetic all the time! What's the secret? A heady mix of coffee, buns and each others silliness! We know how lucky we are to be able to do what we do every day. Being able to do something you love as your work and being able to do it together is a brilliant thing.

This chapter is designer's circle. We hope you can introduce one of your friends who is a designer, and will be interviewed in the next issue! Could you introduce him(her) a little bit ? Who is the best? Mike or Katie? Any more secret to share? :D Katie is best because Katie is always right. hmm, any more secrets....?? fraid not!
After a lot of thought and deliberation we think you should drop a line to our friends at ILoveDust. Mark and the gang are very good friends of ours but a total bunch of oddballs. They've been doing a lot of amazing stuff recently and the company itself is evolving at a crazy rate. We're sure they'd make very interesting interviewees!

37 Printed textile pattern is adopted by lots of brands again recently in the field of fashion. In this trend, Marimekko who has been designed creative fabric pattern for 50 years is getting lots of attention. 39 Marimekko was founded by Armi Ratua and Viljo in Finland in 1951. Marimekko means “Mary-dress”, and Mekko is an old Finnish word means “little girl dress”. There is a further reason in the name: “Mari” is an anagram for Armi, thus linking the company closely to its founder. Since the beginning, they have been encouraging their designers to create unique and beautiful patterns and objects related to human environment. The basic philosophy of the company is – Design is inspired by beautiful everyday life. Flowers, organic structure, and nature are often being used as a subject for their creative design. The distinctive fabric pattern shows its Finnish identity, which is strong colors and progressive design, and created a unique company image.

41 From fabric print to fashion industry Unikko pattern is one of Marimekko’s most popular patterns, which was introduced in 1964, the same year as Andy Warhol’s cerise. Today, most scholars have treated Marimekko in isolation as a uniquely Finnish phenomenon.

Cooking is Art. There are no rules. 1/2 recipe shows you the smartest way to cook.
I love to cook and collect recipes, but I never exactly follow the steps. For me, cooking should be playful. I always put my imaginat ion to someone ’s recipe and bring it to my vision.
the origin of Spaghetti
Text, Recipe / Small Photography / Shibo
My cooking rules are easy and healthy. Modern people are always busy, and I believe, with 1/2 effort, 1/2 steps, 1/2 fat, 1/2 time of cooking, will also bring you to a lovely cooking experien ce and healthier dish. That’s why I called this chapter “1/2 Recipe”. Cooking is art. Let’s play.
1/2 Recipe | Design & Life minizine
Hint ! De Cecco – Spaghetti 12 This dish called the “origin” of pasta is because there are only 4 ingredients, including spaghetti, olive oil, chilli, and garlic. Each ingredient must be good enough, especially spaghetti. I highly recommend you choose spaghetti of De Cecco. Once you try it, you will know why I insist on choosing it. In this recipe, I use “Spaghetti 12”, which is a long rod pasta format with a round section with a diameter ranging between 1.92 and 2.00 mm. Drop by its website (www.dececco.it), and you will learn how they type pasta in a sophisticated way.
