MUSEUMS OF POWER
THE FINAL ACT - THE DISSONANCE OF THEATROPOLIS
Map of England indicating all museums with African antiquities.
Map of London indicating all museums with African antiquities.
The model depicts the gaps left by the pillaging of artefacts from various nations and maps them to the London-area institutions that now display them. It is an artefact in and of itself, symbolising all the connections between these museums and the artefacts kept in the London museums.

MODELS INSPIRED BY AFRICAN HAIRSTYLES
ESCAPE MAPS Cornrows acted somewhat as a language, establishing an instant link between members of the society. Sources claim that the hair on the temples of the abducted slaves had been cut off in order to remove their heritage and sense of belonging as well as for hygiene reasons. Africans who were held as slaves utilised cornrows to move and make maps in order to escape from farms and the homes of their oppressors. The use of hair as a tactic of defiance is alleged to have occurred all throughout South America. Cornrows became the ideal solution for such situations because slaves weren’t frequently afforded the opportunity to write, and is so, doing so might lead to serious problems for the persons concerned if the correspondence or maps ended up in hands that were not intended. Ladies often plaited a hairdo known as departes, which featured dense, tight braids that were weaved near to the head and were wrapped into buns on top, to indicate that they wished to flee.
FACADE DESIGNS
The crowns of another type featured firmly woven, curving braids. The wavy strands would be a representation of their escape routes. Additionally, they concealed seeds and currency in the weaves, that ultimately enabled them thrive following their escape. The ladies were also made to wear seeds in their locks as decorations, which Bioho did in order to provide the freed slaves a means to cultivate their own food. 4
WEAVING FACADES
The secondary structure showcases the façade of the building. The façade’s material is compressed earth block (CEB). This had a few benefits as it is environmentally friendly, sustainable and has a good thermal mass for heating and helps to regulate the heating of my building. An important aspect is that it doesn’t release harmful gasses which is favourable for my design and has almost zero carbon emissions. This facade acts as a second skin to the curtain wall which lays behind the facade. The materiality of the curtain wall is electro-chromic smart glass, which will allow me to control and regulate the amount of light that enters the building as well as protect visitors from the sun as well as protecting their privacy. I am also incorporating the use of photovoltaic glass, which will be carefully placed at specific locations to serve as both a form of illumination and power source. This would allow my building to run on solar energy, allowing my building to be sustainable in the long run.

GREEK BATH had similar ideas to the Roman baths, ancient Greek bath complexes were fit for bathing and cleansing.
THE GYMNASIUM which is now a ruin, was initially identified as a gymnasium. Research later down the line suggests that it was a place of gathering and feasting on the meals for rituals.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THE ASCLEPIEION OF EPIDAURUS is one of the oldest museums dedicated to ancient Greek architecture, is home to a sizable collection that includes numerous significant artefacts excavated from The Sanctuary of Asklepios (1881-1928).
THE THEATRE OF EPIDAURUS is still used to stage theatrical acts and has been conserved almost entirely. It was constructed towards the start of the third century BCE. The theatre is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, which allow audience members in the front rows of seats to clearly hear even the smallest sound, such as the dropping of a pin or a heavy sigh.

ENGRAM OF FADING STRUCTURES
SISKIN ANALYSIS - EXPLORING FORM OF BUILDING
These diagrams capture the siskin bird in flight. By doing this I am able to observe its forms and generate geometries by understanding how the bird takes off in flight. The geometries observed from these drawings shows the streamlined form of the bird, which allows it to cut through strong winds allowing the bird to fly at its capacity. This allows me to consider how my structure will be designed through this research.

PINE STAINED CROSS LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) These are used for the walls, beams and roof for the building. CLT is a structurally sound engineered wood product with little impact on the environment and is light weight.
UV MARKERS Used on the windows of the building. Because birds can sense UV light in the ultraviolet spectrum, UV markers work to prevent bird crashes. UV coatings have the advantage of appearing practically transparent to the naked eye.
STRUCTURAL MODELS
ALDER - LACQUERED FINISH Used for the bird box, bird catcher and bird feeder. This is a material the birds will be used to as it comes from their ‘wood’ habitat.
PINE The foundation is made of wood which follows the theme and materiality of the building along with 20 tonnes of steel counterweights. Its foundation is buried in the ground at a distance from the river for stability as covers enough surface area to enable its stability to ensure the building doesn’t roll over due to its curved cantilever. BIRD BOX Bird box to inhabit birds and bring them closer to human interaction. Its dimension is determined by the size of the bird. Bigger bird holes to pose a risk to smaller bird inhibiting the space as larger birds can enter, posing a risk to the smaller bird.
BIRD CATCHER These are placed below the entrances of the bird holes on the exterior walls of the structure. This is crucial for the young as they could wander off and fall on the ground or into the river accidentally. Once it has caught the young, the parents can retrieve them and take them back into their bird boxes.
BIRD FEEDER This is a method used to attract birds to the structure for easier and better observation. The food provides them nourishment and the water below the cantilever makes the structure their home within their natural habitat.

THE MODEL AND MOVEMENT
These images not only show the device but the reason for my whole project, which particularly draws attention to polluting devices, and in this case, a mobile device. The images show how the device is being detained from human interaction when social media pollution has occurred and it shows the process of how the device moves to do this.
