rom major port and terminal operators, through to suppliers of advanced technologies for driverless terminal operations, IT
and process automation solutions, cranes and container handling equipment, training products and services, port planning, design and construction, the TOC CSC Europe exhibition is the place to meet, catch up on industry developments and do business. BIG BOX SHIPPERS Willem Jan Beerthuis (global category buyer logistics for global beer leader Heineken), Tünde Fabri (transport business developer at home furnishing goliath IKEA) and Tom Tillemans (European head of logistics

network development for iconic food brand HJ Heinz) are among the ‘big box shipper’ executives now confirmed to join the debate at the 38th TOC Container Supply Chain Europe conference in Rotterdam. Taking place this year under the headline theme ‘Innovation, Efficiency and Connectivity’, the long-running event brings together cargo owners, 3PLs, ocean carriers, transport companies and port and terminal providers to debate the outlook for global container supply chain operations. Heinz’s Tom Tillemans joins speakers from Port of Rotterdam and Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, among others, to discuss the challenges of integrating ports, inland terminals and logistics networks to improve supply chain performance. Tillemans, who is also a member of Council for Logistics Know How at EVO, the Dutch Shippers’ Council, and an Innovation Programme Ambassador for Connekt, the Dutchgovernment backed public-private partnership initiative to promote sustainable logistics, will
share views on how to enhance the effectiveness of European inland container flows at a time of increasing public and government pressure to reduce the social and environmental impact of freight transport. Tünde Fabri, who manages inbound and outbound transport purchasing for IKEA in Germany, joins a day one session focused on the outlook for global container shipping alongside fellow shipper Jean Oberlé (VP transport & warehousing, global supply chain for Schneider Electric), plus ocean carrier and 3PL representatives including Lars Mikael Jensen (head of Asia-Europe network at Maersk Line), Juan Pablo Richards (SVP region Europe, CSAV Group), Nissim Yochai (VP corporate customer relations for ZIM) and Peder Winther (senior vice president, seafreight at Kuehne + Nagel). As industry analysts Drewry Shipping Consultants and SeaIntel – both also speaking at this year’s conference – warn of continued volatility ahead for container carriers and their customers, the session will provide a chance to take stock of how measures such as slow steaming, blanked sailings and the shift to larger vessels have impacted shippers’ supply chain planning, and whether the shipping industry has been able to sustain a more disciplined approach to rate and capacity management in its quest to restore financial stability. >>>

the international brewing group with the goal of driving new cost, operating and service efficiencies across the entire organisation as its moves “up the globalisation curve”. Beerthuis will take part in “The Big Industry Debate”, a round-table industry discussion forum on 25th June, along with Fabri, Oberlé, Tillemans and other members of ‘The Big Box Shippers Club’, including executives from paper recycling group America Chung Nam, chemical company Emerald Performance Materials, online retailer Shop Direct and tool manufacturer Stanley Black & Decker. BULK CARGO HANDLING Co-located with the TOC CSC Europe exhibition, Bulk Ports & Technology is a free-to-attend conference for delegates wanting to keep up-to-date with the latest innovations in dry bulk shipping, handling and port technology. Bulk ports and terminals are vital components of global supply chains. As bulk commodities are shipped over greater distances from source to destination, large commodity carriers need to be loaded and discharged more efficiently while also minimising a port’s environmental impact. With contributions from Port of Antwerp, ABP,
Container ports and terminals around the world face perhaps their greatestever demands for improved operational performance, cost efficiency and customer service, all at a time of growing societal, regulatory and funding pressures. From serving ever-larger vessels to optimising the productivity, safety and environmental credentials of the 1,400+ existing terminals worldwide - and the equipment and people that run them - to creating the next generation of container handling facilities, innovative thinking and technologies will be critical to future success. Officially launching at TOC Europe 2013, and free to attend, TECH TOC provides a high-quality platform for all the stakeholders in port and terminal efficiency to come together, share experiences and expertise, and map out solutions to common challenges. In a packed programme over a full twoand-a-half days, more than 30 terminal experts from around the world will debate today’s critical challenges, present handson case studies and provide insight into innovative techniques and technologies for improving operational performance. n www.tocevents-europe.com
