Flowers and showers

THERE ARE PROS AND CONS TO HAVING A SPRING WEDDING. EMBRACE THE GOOD!

Spring is traditionally thought of as the most romantic time of year. The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping. So who wouldn’t want to get married in such a perfect season? Before you go thinking that spring will work its magic and solve all your wedding mishaps, be prepared for the issues that spring can throw at you.

Weather is fickle, at best

Welcome to Canada! Yesterday you were in flip flops and today it is snowing! Did you bring your winter coat when you left the house this morning? Good, because in the late afternoon a scorching heatwave is coming through. You never know what will happen. Nothing is prettier than an outdoor wedding on a lovely spring day, but it’s a risk.

✱ Book a venue with flexible outdoor/indoor options, so weather won’t ruin the day.

✱ Come prepared with cooler-weather accessories: a jacket or shawl, pantyhose, close-toed shoes.

The power of flowers

✱ Assume it will be windy and style your hair accordingly.

✱ Take your guest’s comfort into consideration, providing umbrellas, fans, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.

Getting married in spring means you have the opportunity to choose from a wide array of blooms. So, take advantage! Lilacs and lily of the valley are some faves, but are very strong in scent. Placing them on your reception table can take the focus from your food, so choose your flower placement wisely. And some guests with sensitive noses may not enjoy the décor as much as you. Keep in mind that springtime is also allergy season! Stock up on meds, accordingly.

Vendors book quickly

Some highly fragrant flowers that do not aggravate allergies can still be irritants with their potent scents. It may be best to enjoy the following flowers outdoors: gardenia, hyacinth, jasmine, and lilacs. Many French hybrid lilacs and the white or yellow varieties are not as highly scented.

Spring is a popular time to exchange vows, which means vendors book up pretty quickly. Don’t expect to hire the photographer you love four months out from your wedding date. Great vendors fill their schedules a year (sometimes more) in advance. Understand that because of timing, you may not get the vendors you want.

Things can get pricier

Many venues will cost more in the spring than in the fall or winter. If budget is an issue (because it most likely will be) a spring wedding date might break the bank. Spoiler alert: fall and winter weddings are pretty amazing, too.

PLANNING

My happy place

PICK THE PERFECT VENUE FOR YOUR SPRING WEDDING

Planning an outdoor wedding in the spring is not for the faint of heart. It requires a risk-taker mentality. Someone who won’t let stress get the better of them. Because as lovely as spring is, it can turn into winter quickly (even in May) and plans can change. But if you have your heart set on an outdoor event, here are some suggestions.

Golf course

The great thing about being married at a golf course is that the properties tend to have many options when it comes to ceremony locations. Typically, there are a couple outside, and in case of inclement weather, you can always move things indoors. Speak with the wedding team at the course and confirm back-up plans. Also be sure to ask about décor rules, particularly for outside. Sometimes golf courses are a get-what-you-get situation when it comes to décor as they don’t want to disrupt their landscaping or interiors. Remember: depending on how the weather has been, they may not allow you on the fairways or greens for photos. Respect their property!

Art gallery

Galleries can be really sophisticated and romantic, and some of them have outdoor sculpture galleries in which weddings can take place. Again, the benefit here is having an easy alternative to outdoor nuptials if it rains. Speak to the gallery about allowing your guests to peruse the paintings in between the ceremony and reception. This may come at an extra cost, but your guests will be truly entertained.

Gardens

Nearly every city has a botanical garden of some kind, filled with gorgeous site options for a ceremony. When booking (or even better, before you book) ask about which flowers will be in bloom for your preferred wedding date. Lilacs? Roses? Cherry blossoms? And depending on which

8 PALLADIUMWEDDINGS.COM | The Spring Guide The Spring Guide | PLANNING

are showing their colours, can the ceremony take place in that area of the garden? Don’t assume that you can go wherever the flowers are.

Vineyard

Now depending on the time of year and grape variety, vineyards may be lush and green in the spring, or barely sprouting. Do your research beforehand. If plants are in their fragile state, just beginning to grow, you may not be able to have a ceremony or even do photos amongst the vines. Vineyards are gorgeous, but they are also a business, and you wouldn’t want to impair the growth process. That being said, many vineyards do have beautiful rooms with stunning views, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to get great photos. Oh, and did we mention the added bonus of all the wine?

Barns

Rustic. Boho. Natural. Those are just a few words to describe a barn wedding. A barn gives you indoor/outdoor options, but either way, it’s still a barn. Discuss heating, lighting and bathroom facilities with your venue. Most established businesses will have all of this sorted. But, if you’re simply “using a friend’s barn” for example, you’ll have lots to consider. Try to stick with the pros and book a legitimate space.

Hotel rooftop

If you’re more of a cityscape type of person, look into a hotel rooftop ceremony or reception. You’ll have incredible views and it’s a unique location that guests will talk about for years to come. If you’re lucky enough to have a warm spring day/ evening, a rooftop reception filled with garlands of twinkle lights or Edison bulbs is a sight to see. Or maybe you’ll have enough sunshine in the afternoon for a quick ceremony on the roof, and then back into a hotel ballroom or restaurant for the reception.

Cottage or backyard

Intimate at-home weddings became extra popular during COVID and have stuck around. There’s nothing like the warm feeling of being at home. However, if your event is moved indoors, will you have enough room? If not, a tent is a must-have. And a wedding

on your property doesn’t mean skimping on décor or a delicious sit-down meal. Go all out, but ask a planner to help you construct the day of your dreams. A lot goes into a house or cottage wedding, including permits, so ask a professional to help out.

HELLO SPRING. HELLO PASTELS

Sure, you can’t go wrong with a classic black suit – it’s elegant, sophisticated and romantic –but there are so many more options available. The pastel suit is gaining in popularity, and we are here for it! Pink, blue, mint and even lavender are colours to consider, especially if you’re planning a spring wedding. Plus, adding some colour that matches your wedding décor can help tie everything together.

ACCESSORIZE

Going pastel is a bold choice that not everyone is comfortable with. if you’ve always worn black suits, the change can be pretty alarming! Before you go headto-toe in a colourful shade, dip your toe into the pool of pastels via accessories. Small pops of pastel can make a surprisingly big statement, even if it’s just a tie, pocket square or your socks peeking out of your shoes. Suspenders can be a fun way to show off some unexpected colour, too.

DRESS YOUR PARTY

If you’d like to stick with a classic black tux, but want to have more of a spring vibe for the big day, have your wedding party go with pastels while you go with something darker. Navy pairs well with almost any pastel colour, so consider it an option.

MATCH THE MAIDS

You can’t forget about the bridesmaids’ dresses when choosing suits. But here’s the thing: you can go matchymatchy or opt for contrasting/

complimentary colour combinations. Lavender suits with yellow dresses? Yes, please! And if the bridesmaids are wearing patterns, colourful suits can look amazing. It’s a colour explosion, yes, but talk about a statement.

MAKE IT MONOTONE

Stick with one colour rather than mixing things up. Pink suit? Pink shirt. Pink tie. Creating a colour-blocked look can look very sleek, especially if everyone in the wedding party chooses a different colour.

IF THE SUIT FITS

✱ Make an appointment. Don’t expect to walk into a store and have staff readily available to assist with selection or measuring. If it’s a busy day on the sales floor, you may have to wait. Booking a scheduled time slot is the best idea, particularly if there is more than one of you.

✱ Know whether you want to buy or rent. A groom’s suit doesn’t have to match the rest of the wedding party, so purchasing is always an option. A suit is a great investment that you’ll be able to use for years to come.

✱ Don’t go in blindly, but also be open to suggestions. You know your taste and what you’ll feel comfortable in, so express that to whomever is assisting you. However, much like wedding gowns, sometimes you don’t know how much you’ll like a suit until you actually try it on. Maybe slim fit would work for you, or perhaps a modern fit would suit you better. If a style is suggested, give it a whirl. You never know!

✱ Also, like wedding gown shopping, don’t feel the need to bring everyone in your wedding party. The groom, a groomsman and your partner might be the only people you need to decide on a style. There’s no need to drag everyone to the store just

OWN A SUIT FOR

to waste their time. Select a style and then pass the information on to your wedding party. Or make the selection and plan a group trip to the store for the actual fittings.

✱ Don’t wait until the last minute. Select your suit style four to six months in advance, or close to the same season as your wedding. This doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be fitted then, but you’ll at least know what you’re getting, and the store will have everything available on your wedding date.

✱ Before your fitting, try to look wedding-day ready. Style your hair the way you will on the big day and don’t forget to shave. This way, you get the full effect and it’s easier to make a decision.

✱ If you’re planning on using your own accessories – your grandfather’s cufflinks, a pair of skater shoes, your dad’s bowtie – bring them with you to be sure they will suit your suit.

✱ Wear proper socks! If you’re renting shoes, bring dress socks and leave the bulky sports socks at home. Lots of grooms opt for novelty socks, so if you have those handy, bring them, too.

✱ Trust the experts. They are there to help you look your best on your wedding day!

DRESS THE PART

Some people have a closet filled with suits, for others, their wedding day might be the first time they’ve ever purchased a suit. The choices are endless and the options can be daunting. Here are a few things you need to know from Tip Top.

PERFECT MOMENTS PERFECTLY DRESSED

Match the maids

Tip Top has a huge range of colours in ties, pocket squares and lapel pins that also match many of their shirt colours, so it’s easy to match with the bridesmaids. If possible, bring one of the bridesmaid dresses (or material from the dress) to the store when selecting the colour of your suit/shirt/accessories. At worst, bring a photo of the bridesmaids dress to show your Tip Top salesperson.

Must-have accessories

Accessories can add the right amount of charm to your already razor-sharp outfit.

Plus, if you’re more comfortable in neutrals and basics, suit accessories are a great way to incorporate a dash of colour without drawing everyone’s attention. Here’s what you need:

✱ NECKTIES AND BOW TIES. Look to classic patterns to add a bit of dimension to your outfit - think paisleys and geometric patterns. For formal occasions, solid colours create the opportunity for colour-blocking. This works especially well when paired with a matching pocket square.

✱ POCKETSQUARES. The humble neighbour to your necktie, the pocket

square will help bring some colour to your suit. The great thing about pocket squares is that you can make one out of anything. So if you have an heirloom handkerchief from your grandfather, you may be able to turn that into a pocket square. Bandanas are also welcome. Just be sure that it coordinates with the rest of your outfit.

✱ CUFFLINKS. Back in the day, shirts weren’t made with sleeve buttons - they were fastened with pieces of ribbon. Which is a bit odd, considering the rest of the shirt had buttons. Ponderings aside, we are grateful that this led to the innovation of cufflinks. Not only do they keep your

14 PALLADIUMWEDDINGS.COM | The Spring Guide
ADVERTORIAL

French cuffs secured and fastened, but they also add a bit of prestige to your outfit.

✱ TIE CLIPS/TIE BARS. Tie clips and bars serve a functional purpose, as well as aesthetic. It keeps your tie fixed against your shirt, preventing wrinkles and unexpected movement. You’ll always look your best, even in an impromptu selfie.

✱ BELTS. Keep your pants on, man. The belt may be one of the most quintessential accessories in the entirety of a man’s wardrobe. But not all belts are the same. Opt for a slimmer belt than the one you wear with jeans. And remember that your belt should match your shoes.

Buy a quality tie

Ties are one of the many accessories by which a man’s meticulousness about his style is measured. When it comes to unifying a whole ensemble or providing a dash of contrast, ties play their role well. However, with all things, it’s absolutely

imperative that you invest in highquality goods. When purchasing a tie, pay attention to the width, length, fabric and construction. The material and construction of a tie are dead giveaways of a tie’s quality.

Sizing things up

Tip Top offers offer a wide range of sizing with jackets up to size 56, and matching pants up to a 50” waist.

Tip Top also has kid sizing so you’ll be able to match with your mini-me counterparts. A junior wedding party always steals the show, especially if they are dressed to the nines.

Be comfortable

Whatever suit you buy, you have to be comfortable. Your wedding suit shouldn’t cause you any stress.

Tip Top’s G Grafton suit has “PartyProof Water-Resistant Material” and is wrinkle resistant. So you can have fun at your wedding without worrying about the suit.

Pretty petals

When it comes to wedding dresses, embellishments can take your gown to the next level. Some brides do appreciate a more subtle, understated look, but others will explore the uniqueness of lace, bows, appliqués, embroidery and beading. If you’re a “more is more” kind of bride, then take a risk and decorate yourself!

Celebrating love

AFTER CHANGING THEIR ORIGINAL PRE-COVID PLANS, THESE UNIVERSITY SWEETHEARTS HOSTED AN INTIMATE SPRING CELEBRATION.

Alison Cameron and Anar Rahmil had a beautiful spring wedding, filled with lovely florals. Ali says, “The flowers were sublime. Estefani from De La Flore did such a fantastic job, and she even created a bouquet for the back of my wheelchair! Plus, when our planner gave her the challenge of creating a floral display to go on two salvaged doors — the backdrop for the altar — she delivered and then some!”

The couple invited people from all over the world to the Vancouver wedding.

“I’m hoping that what the guests will remember most is the feeling of joy and togetherness that permeated through the room,” says Ali. “From the décor and flowers to the intimate setting and food, everything was carefully chosen with our guests’ happiness in mind, to bring them all together.”

ADVICE FROM A WEDDING AND PARTY GURU

What are some of the benefits of planning a wedding with Palladium Hotel Group’s Weddings By

Say “I do” to a Destination Wedding with Weddings by Palladium Wedding planning, while an exciting time for brides, can be an adventure. Thankfully, adventurous couples looking for an out-of-the-ordinary experience can lean into destinationweddings to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible, while also exploring and relaxing in a tropical location. With elevated service and guests as the main priority, Palladium Hotel Group delivers an unforgettable and memorable escape, the perfect beginning to each couple’s marriage chapter.

The bottom line: we love nothing more than listening to a couple’s love story and their dreams and wishes, and then getting creative to bring it all to life for an unforgettable celebration!

Our couples having a New York designer create have that dream wedding at a much

KB: Planning a destination wedding remotely can be stressful, as you may be concerned about things like paperwork, regulations, and of course making sure that the hospitality, decor and details are all up to your standards. When I first met with the top leadership at Palladium Hotel Group more than ten years ago, I was concerned about these things too, and we agreed that we wanted to create a culture of real service to help our couples feel comfortable and truly cared for. We’ve invested a lot in training and in hiring the best team members who take so much pride in creating magic for our couples. To me, this is probably the most important advantage. Years later our couples keep in touch with us and return again and again to our destinations, and that’s what we want more than anything!

Bussen is an internationally known party guru with a roster of private clients the worlds of business, society and entertainment. As the exclusive designer for Weddings by Palladium, she believes in giving couples a palette of fabulous possibilities the flexibility they want to tell their own unique love stories in their own way.

Personalization and curated experiences have become a big trend in the wedding space. How does Weddings By Palladium cater to these trends?

about timing first. Next, you’ll want to lock in your room rates and categories, and our team can help with all those details. Another thing to consider are any “satellite” events such as a pre-wedding beach party (ours is called the Private Beach Bash) or a private reception, because especially at popular times of the year, venues can book up very early. So try to reserve your venues early in your process. Luckily as far as checklists go, our amazing team of wedding coordinators will walk you through what you need in terms of, for example, paperwork if you want to be legally married in the destination. They know all the details and they’re extremely helpful throughout the process.

That being said, with our all-inclusive resorts, there are many other advantages--the fact that we offer such a variety of destinations and exciting venues within each destination is one, as is our commitment to offering differing room and experience categories that match a wedding group’s needs and desires. By that I mean that we offer luxury suites, family-friendly options, even baby clubs and adultsonly areas, all in the same resort, so that everyone who travels for your wedding will feel welcomed with style and substance that suits who they are.

TB: When a couple arrives at their destination property, what are some things they should remember/do before the big day?

We are also on the forefront of bringing updated cuisine and style to our offerings--from entertainment to Instagram-worthy experiences you won’t forget!

an “intimate” area to be married guests and onlookers at the resort. planner/resort manager to find quiet, ceremony?

What are some of the unique locations in which Weddings

is everything. At Weddings by beautiful and special venues for our oceanside on the sand at the edge of in a stunning hidden garden gazebo Jamaica. Our wedding coordinators property and they ask questions to each couple.

KB: We really think of our properties as places to celebrate. Of course we have designated wedding venues on our beaches and in beautiful pavilions and gazebos overlooking the sea. But we also adapt and get creative to suit each of our couples individually with their wedding vision. In Costa Mujeres, for example we have a stunning convention center with a brand new ballroom and a giant terrace that is perfect for larger celebrations, like those of our South Asian couples who come ready for spectacular, colorful, multi-day events that really raise the bar.

KB: Oh wow, this is a great question. There are some really practical things, like wear sunscreen! You don’t want to be sunburned in your wedding photos! Then also, you might consider making an itinerary for guests and either putting that on your wedding website or printing it and including it in a welcome bag to make sure everyone knows where to be and when the organized activities will take place versus when they’ll have free time to lounge by the pool/water. Include any helpful details about transportation to the ceremony, and your guests will thank you!

KB: Yes, whereas a few years back a destination wedding was more about simplicity and small groups, personalisation is really everything now, and with the rise of social media, the bar has also risen on creating special visuals and surprise moments that honor the couple and the occasion in a new way. For me, there is nothing more important than creating that element of delight and surprise, whether it’s with music, florals, a menu that honors cultural traditions with a twist, a fabulous bar with pro mixologists to dazzle your guests. Our Weddings by Palladium teams in each resort have cultivated close relationships with all of the top vendors in each destination and we work together to offer the latest in every category. Once we know a bit more about each of our couples, we make recommendations and work with them to layer the whole celebration with memorable experiences, from themed welcome events to get everyone mingling, to show-stopping theatrical moments during the wedding reception itself, to romantic photo shoots and dinners for the newlyweds along with other honeymoon details to really wow them. For us it’s really getting to know the couple and building something that is truly them, so that their friends and family feel their spirit and their style in every moment.

How does Palladium Hotel Group promote diversity and inclusion with its unique offerings?

guestlist, a destination wedding comes engaged couples and involves a ton should couples add to their to-do wedding go smoothly?

need to choose the date and send out a possible. If there are crucial family members to be there, you should talk with them

We use our theaters and our restaurants for parties and wedding receptions, and one of my favorite indoor-outdoor ceremony spots is the Spa Atrium at our property in Jamaica. We host a really popular “Private Beach Bash’’ as a welcome party, reception, or after-party at all of our hotels.

Also do review all the details of your celebration with your wedding coordinator when you arrive on site. Over the course of planning you may have added things or made special requests, and it will help you to go over everything and make any adjustments. Our coordinators always have a pre-wedding appointment with our couples to make sure everything is exactly as they want it. Then I would say to make sure on your wedding day to take it all in. I always tell couples to take mental snapshots all day long on the wedding day to help them remember these incredible moments.

And then finally, don’t forget to add in some alone time for you two, whether it’s arriving a bit early, staying longer, or booking romantic experiences like our Twilight Photoshoot or Dinner for Two on the beach.

KB: I can honestly say we have always been on the leading edge of this important part of our work as wedding planners, and it is something that has been important to me throughout my career. My family happens to be quite international, and after my sister met and married a Gujarati-American, we began working on a program for South Asian couples, then saw the trend explode. We now host so many absolutely incredible South Asian wedding celebrations of many traditions, and we’ve invested in training for our teams in all the various rituals and events that surround a wedding. We work with each family on music, menus, decor, dramatic arrivals, and of course, entertainment, to really wow their guests and to help their family know that we truly care. Some of the top South Asian wedding travel planners come to our team first because they know we have the expertise and the resources to make it happen!

When it comes to our LGBTQ+ couples, we welcome them with arms wide open. In fact, many years ago, on one of our first photo shoots at the Riviera Maya property, two LGBTQ team members actually fell in love! They were later married at the resort, and today they have three beautiful children.

For us, the key is that we work with each couple individually to find the destination and the combination of beautiful events and sweet details that will work for them. I purposefully designed the Karen Bussen Wedding Collection to allow couples, for example, to choose two bouquets or two boutonnieres, and to swap out elements as they please. Our approach is centered in flexibility and honoring each couple’s dream, which is what we’re all about!

We are known for crafting ceremonies and moments that are special and inclusive, and as we always say, LOVE=LOVE!!

How has Palladium Hotel Group’s partnership with wedding designer, Karen Bussen, distinguished them from other destination wedding services?

KB: Well, I have to credit the Matutes family, who are the original creators of Palladium Hotel Group, for their vision in wanting to create something different for weddings. When they first approached me, I was impressed that they knew there was so much potential, but that they were focused on quality and value, not only

in their hotels, but in starting to actually build a weddings program to respond to the growing requests they were seeing. Coming from a background in exclusive, very upscale events, I was concerned about upholding standards, and they assured me from the very beginning that they were aligned. And over more than ten years of partnership, I have repeatedly found this to be true.

We’ve all seen celebrity designer partnerships come and go within the weddings world, largely because those were often licensing deals where, maybe there wasn't a really deep involvement or relationship between the two. But for me, what has been so special is that the leadership of the company welcomed me to help them build out not just the wedding collections and products, but also the very structure of the way we approach weddings--the leadership training, the creativity, how we talk to our couples--really everything. It’s a real testament to their vision that they have listened and invested in building something that couples respond to. How that translates to our couples: we are just singularly focused on them. When I am with the teams in the resorts, we talk about our couples. Our brides and grooms invite us to other family events and send us notes. This is how I have always worked with my private clients--creating real relationships. And that’s what we are constantly working toward with Weddings by Palladium. I mean, what’s better than meeting amazing couples and helping them have the celebration of a lifetime in an incredible destination?

Besides wedding celebrations, what are some other romantic experiences that are offered to couples?

KB: There is really no limit to what we can do. Our team lives to create romantic experiences and we’re always looking to do something new. One of my favorite new experiences is the “Twilight Photo Shoot and Dinner for Two.” Basically this is like the ultimate romantic evening, PLUS Instagram-worthy professional photos that you’ll have to share later! In a nutshell, you meet up with a professional photographer just before sunset. They take you to some pre-scouted fabulous photo spots for great pictures. You look amazing. Then at the end of the shoot, you find yourself at a beautiful table set for two. And soon after, you get edited images to fill your Instagram feed and make all your friends jealous!

We can upgrade this experience with additional decor (beach teepee anyone?) or almost anything else you can think of!

What are some wedding trends you see popping up in 2023?

KB: One of the things I really love right now is that after a couple of years’ waiting through Covid to travel, couples are now doubling down on really going after their full dream wedding, whether that’s an intimate getaway with a small group and the best of everything, or a blowout multi-day fête with all the bells and whistles. It’s like, we are going for it! And there’s nothing a true wedding planner loves more than having the chance to realize that vision. We’ve got all the resources, the relationships and the creative inspiration to help you craft that vision you’ve been building and bring it into reality in the destination of your dreams and I’d say to all our future couples, we can’t wait to meet you and see your Pinterest board!! :-)

Love is blooming

SPRING WEDDINGS MEAN SPRING HONEYMOONS

So where should you go? The options are endless, but we have a few ideas. 5 places to visit in the spring

JAPAN

We had to lead off with Japan. The weather can be unpredictable in Japan, but springtime is a fairly safe bet –rainy season is a couple months away and the comfortable temperatures allow for exciting excursions. But when you think Japan, you think cherry blossoms, and Tokyo is filled with the fragrant flowers during in late March. There are many parks to visit where you’re nearly guaranteed a cherry

blossom show. Or, escape to Mt. Yoshino, which is home to 30,000 trees and can offer some incredible views.

If you love nature but want more than the cherry blossoms, visit Ibaraki’s Hitachi Seaside Park. It is filled with gorgeous blooms in all kinds of shades, including a hillside filled with blue nemophilia, creating a skyon-sky view. And of course, you can’t forget Mount Fuji.

GREECE

The climate in Greece doesn’t fluctuate as much as some other countries, so springtime provides warm temperatures and sunny days – not “summer” weather, but pleasant. Plus, when you travel in spring, there are fewer crowds, giving you more opportunity to explore.

Visit the Oracle of Delphi, an incredible archaeological site considered to be the central part of the Earth. Many say that because of this, it produces a special energy that one can feel. Springtime is the ideal time to visit – you can walk the grounds and discover the ancient relics without being scorched by the sun.

Continue to take advantage of the weather by exploring Athens. You’ll be comfortable as you ascend Acropolis Hill to view the Pantheon, experience the changing of the guard (it happens hourly) at Parliament and stroll the National Gardens.

MEXICO

If you can sneak in a trip to Mexico destination by end of April, do it. After April, the temperatures rise (and can be unbearable for us Canadians) and the rainy season begins. Consider spring break dates for both Canada and the United States when booking your date. Prices can be higher and resorts will be busier.

Once you’ve selected your date, there are so many options to choose from: Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta are just a few popular options. Each destination offers its own pluses and minuses, so do your research. The Rivera Maya has opportunities to visit the majestic ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza, or descend into hidden cenotes to snorkel in the cold, clear water. Puerta Vallarta, on the other hand, provides a more relaxing trip, with gorgeous beaches.

SAINT LUCIA

If you’re looking to avoid humidity and rain, April, May and June are great months to visit the Island of Saint Lucia. Major rainfall begins in July, so timing is everything. Saint Lucia has something for everyone – beautiful beaches for relaxation, rainforests for incredible, natural beauty, mountains, waterfalls, reefs and, of course, the volcanic peaks of the iconic Pitons (a must-see), which stand tall above the island.

If adventure is your thing, ziplining, snorkeling and horseback riding are just a few activities you can enjoy. There are also great diving spots on the west side of the country. Anse Chastanet Marine National Park is the perfect place to view sea life. If relaxation is top of mind, then spend your day on the beach, or soak in the hot springs. Hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail to get some muchneeded peace and quiet, discovering medicinal plants and sampling tropical fruits along the way.

When you think of romance, don’t you immediately think of Paris in springtime? Is there a more iconic picture of love than the perfect day, having a picnic, sipping wine, with the Eiffel Tower in the background? Don’t expect warm weather; April and May can be anywhere from 12–20 degrees.

In springtime, Paris is covered in cherry blossoms, creating a heavenly view and lovely scent through the streets. The Jardin du Palais-Royal is perfect for close encounters with the florals, plus the sweetsmelling magnolias, too.

Be sure to hit all the major sites: The Louvre, Musée D’Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Canal Saint-Martin and the area of Montmatre. Spring is a popular time in the city, so purchase tickets early when possible. Take time to avoid the touristy spots and stroll along the Seine River. Don’t forget to hit evert bakery you see for baguettes, macarons and other French pastries.
