THE GALLERY CONDOMINIUMS GRAND OPENING SATURDAY OCTOBER 17TH
In Barrie!
O
ctober 17th is just around the corner, and Pratt Homes is busy preparing for the Grand Opening of The Gallery Condominiums on that day. This much-anticipated residence is inspired by arts and culture, with the four intimate six-storey buildings named after renowned art galleries: The Maclaren, The Met, The R.O.M and The Louvre. How appropriate for Barrie, which has been coined #artcity! Pratt Homes is taking this inspiration to the next level at The Gallery Condominiums by commissioning a fine arts photographer to capture Barrie in a uniquely beautiful perspective. In addition, Pratt Homes’ dedication to culture includes hosting landmark art installations from art competition winner, Aylan Couchie. Her submission, “H.I.O Big Chiefs,” will sit 70 feet in the air on the roof of one of the buildings for all of Barrie to see. The artwork pays tribute to the indigenous peoples who originally settled in Simcoe County and
the City of Barrie — the First Nations who forged what the area has become. Speaking of views, the City’s first residential rooftop patio will provide unparalleled vistas of the city and the lake for condominium residents. The condominium collection will sit in front of eight hectares of lush forested area that Pratt Homes will help transform into a public park with walking paths, trails and look-outs. What a spectacular nature-infused setting for this outstanding neighbourhood! Adding to its appeal, the new community is as convenient as it is artistic. Situated at 300 Essa Road in the heart of Barrie, the condominium residences are seconds to a grocery store, gas station, bank, Tim Horton’s, Starbucks, Shoppers Drug Mart and Highway 400. Within minutes, residents can be at Allandale GO Station, Barrie’s stunning waterfront, as well as the boutiques and shops in downtown Barrie and the city’s thriving south end. A big city with a small-town feel, Barrie offers four-

One of the best things about buying a new home in Southern Ontario is the amount of choice you have when it comes to location. Just minutes from the Greater Toronto Area, The City of Barrie and the Towns of Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury are ripe with value-packed opportunities. Bradford is attracting new residents who appreciate its quality of life (Photo courtesy of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury)
Four-season, resort-style living is a major draw to Barrie, which is one of Canada’s fastest-growing urban areas. As we round the corner from fall to winter, residents are remembering a summer filled with water activities on Kempenfelt Bay, where yacht, rowing and canoe clubs are accessed via numerous launching and docking facilities.
Imagine living in a place that includes 43 km of Lake Simcoe shoreline featuring scenic community parks. Add to that small-town hospitality and country charm, and you have Innisfil, another popular new home destination. Residents enjoy proximity to boating, swimming, scuba diving and other water sports in spring, summer and fall, and in winter, ice fishing is the passion of many.
In an area known for lush farmers’ fields of the fertile Holland Marsh, Bradford West Gwillimbury is also a desirable place to raise a family because of its high quality of life. Situated at the intersection of King’s Highway 11 and Highway 88, Bradford is moments to Highway 400 and Yonge Street.
Fall is busy in Barrie, with people enjoying the City’s parklands, walking and bicycling trails along the bay, golf courses, cultural venues and the best shopping north of Toronto. Plus, families are getting ready for skiing, skating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, tobogganing and curling in this popular winter playground. And it’s all less than an hour’s drive from Toronto. The city’s giant sculpture on the waterfront is aptly named “Spirit Catcher” – a fitting tribute to this dynamic area.
UPCOMING EVENTS IN BARRIE November 21 Downtown Barrie Tree Lighting Free horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, hot chocolate, a festive holiday film, a visit from Santa, plus the lighting of the trees followed by a fireworks show. Remember, Downtown Barrie is open late on Fridays before Christmas: November 21, 28 and December 5, 12, 19. November 21 Santa Claus Parade From 5:00 to about 10:00 p.m., Barrie will come to life with the Chamber of Commerce’s well-loved holiday event. Every year, Santa arrives for this fun night parade that features fantastic lights, colours, and music. This year’s theme is “My Favourite Christmas Song,” and floats will resonate with the sights and sounds inspired by seasonal music. The parade route will once again start at Tiffin and Lakeshore, head up Tiffin to Bradford Street, then North on Bradford to Dunlop, then through Downtown Barrie for the Downtown Barrie Tree Lighting festivities!
But access to one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes is only part of this Town’s appeal. Innisfil also offers community and recreational facilities, as well as a 9-km stretch of the Trans-Canada Trail. Commuters find access to Highway 400 convenient. The nearby Village of Cookstown is home to specialty stores, antique shops and an outlet mall at Highways 400 and 89. It’s all there, just waiting for new residents.
Farmers’ markets don’t get any fresher than they do in this area, which is also dotted with parks, recreation centres, golf courses, ball diamonds, playgrounds, tennis courts, ice pads, a swimming pool and library, excellent schools and a culture centre. Then there are kilometres of trails where people can keep active by walking, running and the like. Known as a culturally diverse municipality that welcomes newcomers from all backgrounds, Bradford celebrates its residential mosaic each year with annual fairs, festivals and other special events.

Del RiDge Homes anD gReenlife eneRgy systems announce bReaktHRougH initiatives witH tHeiR new gReenlife east maRkHam conDo community
D
uring last Thursday’s council meeting at Markham City Hall, Dave De Sylva and the Del Ridge Homes team made an incredible presentation to council regarding their latest GreenLife project – GreenLife East Markham, an 8 story, 261 unit residential condominium. GreenLife East Markham (GEM), will be located at Markham Road and New Delhi Drive and will be the one of the most energy efficient buildings in Canada. In fact, Del Ridge pushed the envelope in sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint of the building with several new initiatives that actually bring the building below Net Zero energy consumption. A first in Canada. 1. The building will have the largest rooftop
photovoltaic array in Canada capable of producing clean renewable power. Now and for years to come. This kind of long term commitment to solar power is simply unheard of. 2. Delivering on the promise of the lowest condo fees in Canada at approximately 14 cents per square foot, GreenLife’s energy building systems not only produce sustainable clean energy, they also conserve operational energies by as much as an 80% reduction over other current buildings. 2. GreenLife Car Share Program – the building will have a small fleet of electric cars that residents will be able to use. An invaluable and forward thinking resource that is in-line with GreenLife Energy’s overall mandate.
3. Del Ridge concluded a deal on September 23rd National Tree Day, with Forests Ontario to plant 140,000 trees on behalf of the entire GreenLife East Markham project. That’s 317 trees per condo unit, that will never be cut down and each condo owner will receive a title certificate for the trees. “We’re trying to do our part against climate change with whatever means possible, says Dave De Sylva. Trees are an ideal method of sequestering atmospheric carbon, and GreenLife Woods is another initiative that we will be added to every new GreenLife community in the future.” With all these initiatives, and even more planned for future projects, Del Ridge Homes/
GreenLife is bringing green initiatives home. Literally. It’s no wonder they broke a sales record with the GreenLife East Markham project selling a remarkable 261 condo units in an astonishing 10 hours. Mayor Frank Scarpitti, applauded Del Ridge and GreenLife for pushing the envelope in Net Zero sustainability and reducing building footprints. Adding that this kind of forward thinking is welcomed in his community and that he is proud to have such a progressive company and a revolutionary building in our backyard. Panasonic Eco Solutions Canada Signs Royalpark Homes as First Home Builder to Install Residential Solar PV + Energy Storage System System to be installed in exclusive Simcoe Shores Homes, NOW OPEN IN BARRIE
P
anasonic Eco Solutions Canada Inc. announced today that Royalpark Homes, a Woodbridge-based company, will be its first home builder to install Residential Solar PV + Battery Storage Systems as part of new home construction in the premiere community of Simcoe Shores in Barrie, Ontario. “This is a revolutionary step forward for sustainable living, marking the next phase in residential solar energy because for the first time homeowners will now have the freedom and ability to manage their own electricity generation and consumption” “We are very excited to be able to offer our customers a turn-key Residential Solar PV + Battery Storage System as part of our base package for the Simcoe Shores homes in Barrie,” said Marco De Simone, President of Royalpark Homes. De Simone added, “The addition of a 10-kWh capacity battery storage system offers our customers a glimpse into the future of energy management and prepares them to have power in cases of blackouts or outages, and can provide substantial savings on their electricity bills.”
Panasonic’s Residential Energy Storage Solution provides an innovative way to capture solar energy in a versatile energy storage solution that allows homeowners to choose their power source and manage their energy consumption in addition to providing an additional layer of energy security during power outages. The Simcoe Shores homeowners will realize a number of benefits including: • Clean energy source using a solar PV system paired with a hybrid inverter and a compact 10-kWh capacity Lithium-ion battery system powered by Panasonic batteries; • Lower utility bills by accessing the solar capabilities of the system; • Back-up/emergency power which offers peace of mind knowing the lights will stay on regardless of potential grid shortages; • A monitoring system and remote control device to help homeowners monitor their electricity usage patterns, and set times for charge/discharge of the battery; • Ability to better manage the cost of energy

by using less energy from the grid during peak demand times. The System uses a hybrid inverter that allows electricity to be stored from the grid or solar PV system – it then allows homeowners to access a portion of the electricity generated to power the home or sell the excess back to the grid if the home and battery don’t require it. “This is a revolutionary step forward for sustainable living, marking the next phase in residential solar energy because for the first time homeowners will now have the freedom and ability to manage their own electricity generation and consumption,” said Walter Buzzelli, Managing Director at Panasonic Eco Solutions Canada Inc. “The Residential Solar PV + Battery Storage System will offer Simcoe Shores homeowners a number of benefits including the ability to ease the burden of energy costs – especially during peak periods by supplying clean energy generated directly from the home solar system.” An early adopter of the Energy Star standard in Ontario, Royalpark Homes is an industry leader in energy efficiency housing.
