2012 has not been our best year... On 15 May we suddenly lost one of the pillars of the company, Luis Miguel Sánchez, who was our guru and head of design and image at Mondraker from year one right up to that very moment. This 2013 catalogue provides a detailed look at his latest work and faithfully portrays everything that he advocated. There is no better way to pay tribute to him.

In spite of everything, as the title puts it we are moving forward by demonstrating the effectiveness and performance of the Zero system with Brook MacDonald’s victory on his Summum in the last round of the DH World Cup in Val d’Isère. Plus we are also moving on in a new season packed with new developments such as the even faster Summum, the bestselling Factor 29er and the race-devouring Podium Carbon 29er, with the standout being the spectacular Forward Geometry which is set to be a turning point for the company. Time will tell. A new way of understanding the geometry of a pure MTB in which the advantages of control and manoeuvrability will mean you can enjoy your rides like never before. 2013 is the year.

Le 15 Mai nous perdions subitement un des piliers de la compagnie, Luis Miguel Sánchez, il était le gourou et le principal responsable du design et de l’image de Mondraker depuis le début jusqu’à ce jour. Ce catalogue 2013 nous montre en détail sa dernière œuvre et représente fidèlement toute les idées qu’il défendait. Il n’y a pas de meilleure manière de lui rendre hommage.

Er war vom Gründungsjahr bis zu jenem Moment Guru und Hauptverantwortlicher für Design und Image von Mondraker. Der Katalog 2013 zeigt im Detail seine letzte Arbeit und spiegelt treu all die Ideen und Konzepte wider, für die er sich einsetzte. Besser könnten wir ihm nicht Tribut zollen.

L’efficacité et le rendement du système Zero est une fois de plus démontré avec la victoire de Brook MacDonald et de son Summum lors de la dernière Coupe du Monde de DH à Val d’Isère... nous continuons à avancer avec une nouvelle collection remplie de nouveautés. Depuis le nouveau et plus rapide Summum, en passant par le best seller Factor 29er jusqu’au super compétiteur Podium Carbon 29er. Par dessus tout le reste la spectaculaire Forward Geometry fait son apparition et marquera une nouvelle étape pour la marque, elle représente une nouvelle compréhension de ce qu’est un pur VTT, les avantages sur le contrôle et la manœuvrabilité te feront profiter des sorties comme jamais auparavant.

Mondraker launches an evolution geometry concept focused on our core bike range. The new Forward Geometry presents clear advantages for any categories compared with a traditional geometry, all this benefits are focused to improve the control, handling and riding confidence. The geometry defines the spirit and performance of any bike, it´s the main responsible of our feelings and marks the character of the bike. Mondraker’s goal has been to move forward with a better overall geometry. This new concept is inspired on motorbikes geometry, also closer to other extreme applications as BMX or DH, and for sure not accepting the road heritage established a long time ago. Mondraker have taken the current trend that beats for longer top tubes and shorter stems, and carried it till the last consequences; really long top tube and almost not stem length. The new geometry show longer top tubes completely balanced with shorter stems, the top tube length added is the same that the stem loose, as a result all contact points between the rider and the bike keeps in the same position than a classic geometry, the only difference lies in the front wheel axel that is moved forward. The rest of the geometry don´t suffer any change. This is the key of the new Forward Geometry concept.

Mondraker lance un nouveau concept de géométrie évolué, ajusté pour les modèles phares de notre collection. La nouvelle Forward Geometry présente de clairs avantages dans toutes les catégories en comparaison avec une géométrie traditionnelle, tous ses bénéfices sont centrés sur l’amélioration du contrôle, de la maniabilité et de la confiance. La géométrie définit l’esprit et le rendement de chaque vélo, elle est la principale instigatrice de nos sensations et elle marque le caractère du vélo. L’objectif de Mondraker a été de faire un bond en avant avec une meilleure géométrie générale. Ce nouveau concept est inspiré des géométries des motos et est aussi proche des disciplines extrêmes comme le BMX ou la DH, évidemment elle n’accepte pas l’héritage établit depuis longtemps par le cyclisme sur route. Mondraker a adopté la tendance actuelle de tubes supérieurs plus longs et des potences plus courtes en la poussant jusqu’à ces derniers retranchements; des tubes supérieurs vraiment longs et une longueur de potence presque nulle. La nouvelle géométrie propose des tubes supérieurs plus longs compensés par des potences plus courtes, la longueur totale que gagne le tube supérieur est la même que perd la potence, de ce fait tous les points de contact du cycliste avec le vélo se maintiennent exactement au même endroit que sur un vélo avec une géométrie conventionnelle, la seule différence est que l’axe de la roue avant se trouve avancé. Le reste de la géométrie ne change pas. C’est la clé du nouveau concept Forward Geometry.

Die Geometrie definiert den Spirit und die Performance aller Fahrräder und ist damit hauptverantwortlich für das Fahrgefühl und den Charakter eines Bikes. Mondraker verfolgt mit diesem neuen Design das Ziel, einen echten Schritt nach vorne zu gehen und die allgemeine Rahmengeometrie der Fahrradmodelle zu verbessern. Bei diesem neuen Geometriekonzept hat Mondraker sich sowohl von Motorrad-Geometrien und anderen ExtremsportBikes aus dem BMX und DH-Sektor inspirieren lassen und bewusst das traditionelle “RennradErbe” eliminiert. Mondraker hat ganz im Trend immer längere Oberrohren mit kürzeren Vorbauten kombiniert und diese Idee konsequent bis zum Ende umgesetzt: das Endergebnis zeigt wirklich lange Oberrohre und ultrakurze Vorbaulängen. Die neue Geometrie basiert auf längeren Oberrohren, die durch kürzere Lenkervorbauten kompensiert wurden: was das Oberrohr an Länge dazu gewinnt, verliert der Lenkervorbau. Dadurch bleiben die Kontaktpunkte des Fahrer mit dem Fahrrad im Vergleich zu den konventionellen Rahmengeometrien unverändert. Der einzige Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Achse des Vorderrads nach vorne versetzt wurde. Sonst bleibt die Bike-Geometrie unverändert. Genau diese Designänderung macht das Konzept Forward Geometry so innovativ.

The front axle is more advanced that in any other geometry making almost impossible to go over the bar in steep sections, it feels more secure and confident due to the slacker angle perception.

• Direct steering The short stem with only 10mm length allows a lot less handlebar movement to get the same front wheel angle, what changes improves the steering precision and makes the bike very reactive despite the longer wheelbase.

The new Summum frame has had an upgrade to offer an even better suspension performance thanks to the new kinematics and the use of bearings in the eyelets of the shock. This together with a new design of the the rear triangle allows us to shave off 200g with which the Pro Team version slips underneath the 15kg.

Le cadre Summum a été mis à jour pour offrir un meilleur rendement du système de suspension grâce à la nouvelle cinématique et l’utilisation de roulements sur les axes de l’amortisseur. ADJUSTABLE GEOMETRY KIT The purpose of this kit is to adapt the geometry to your preferences according to your riding style or the type of circuit you use. This way you can make adjustments from an extreme geometry that riders would use during the world cup DH, to a geometry more adequate for Freeride. The kit contains 3 headset reducers made of CNC for 0ยบ, +/- 1 - +/-2 and 4 different drop-outs to adjust the length of the chainstay into 440mm, 445mm, 450mm or 455mm together with adjustable brake adaptors in accordance to the different lengths of the chainstay.

When Zero means everything. Zero is the name of Mondraker’s proprietary suspension system and is used on all of its full suspension bikes. The Zero System belongs to the category called “Virtual Pivot” suspension systems. The most significant difference of the Zero system in relation to the other alternatives within this category is that the rear shock is floating between two links and is compressed from both ends. Depending on the optimization of the system and based on its usage, the lower plate compresses the rear shock an average of about 35% of its total length and the upper plate approximately 65%. The positioning of the rear shock together with the compression that the shock receives from both sides makes this system unique. • Zero power loss. The system prevents any unwanted movements produced whilst pedalling resulting in maximum efficiency without extra compression or extension of the rear suspension. • Zero pedal kickback. Chain length growth throughout the suspension travel is insignificant avoiding any backward movement of the crank set that could lead to poor pedalling efficiency or cadence. • Zero brake jack. Rear brake forces do not alter the suspension system. The rear shock will absorb impacts without changing its function whilst using the rear brake. • Zero bumps. The main characteristic of the system is its excellent absorption capacity at the same time as it provides high pedalling efficiency. The optimized trajectory of the rear axle and the linear nature of the rear shock assure very effective impact absorption.

Zero est le nom du système de suspension breveté par Mondraker qui donne vie au cœur de la gamme des tout suspendus. Le système Zero appartient à la catégorie de systèmes appelés systèmes à pivot virtuel à cause de sa configuration mécanique. Dans ce groupe, la différence primordiale de Zero réside dans le fait que l’amortisseur est flottant entre les deux biellettes qui articulent le système, d’autre part, ces biellettes compriment l’amortisseur de manière évidente par ses deux extrémités. Dépendant de la mise au point du système basée sur chaque pratique, la biellette inférieure comprime en moyenne 35% de la course totale de l’amortisseur alors que la biellette supérieur le comprime de 65%. La position de l’amortisseur et sa compression des deux côtés sont les points qui rendent le système unique sur le marché. • Zero perte d’énergie. Le système neutralise tous les possibles va-et-vient induis par le pédalage, la force appliquée sur les pédales se traduit en poussée immédiate sans créer de mouvements non nécessaires de compression ou d’extension de l’amortisseur. • Zero interférence avec le pédalage. L’élongation de la chaine est imperceptible sur tout le débattement, aucun étirement ou décroissance n’affecte l’obtention d’un pédalage rond. • Zero interaction avec le freinage. La configuration du système n’étend ni ne comprime la suspension lorsque le frein arrière est actionné. La suspension continue d’absorber sans changer de comportement face aux forces produites par l’étrier quel que soit le freinage. • Zero trou. La principale caractéristique du système est son excellente capacité d’absorption unie à chaque instant à son efficacité de pédalage. La trajectoire de l’axe de roue arrière et son caractère linéaire font disparaitre tous types d’impacts.

Zero ist der Name des von Mondraker patentierten Hinterbausystems für alle vollgefederten Modelle. Das ZeroSystem gehört wegen seiner mechanischen Konstruktion zu der Kategorie “virtueller Drehpunkt”. Der Hauptunterschied zu bestehenden Systemen liegt beim ZERO in dem schwimmend gelagerten Dämpfer. Das System wurde so optimiert, dass der Dämpfer an der unteren Ablenkung um durchschnittlich 35 % und an der oberen Ablenkung um 65 % komprimiert wird. Die Anordnung des Dämpfers und seine beidseitige Komprimierung machen unser System einzigartig auf dem Markt. • Null Energieverlust. Das System neutralisiert alle beim Pedalieren verursachten Bewegungen und die Kraft wird direkt in Vorschub umgewandelt, ohne unnötige Dämpferbewegungen zu erzeugen. • Null Interferenzen beim Pedalieren. Die Verlängerung der Kette ist minimal, so dass Pedal-Vor- oder Rückschlag nicht spürbar ist. • Null Bremsbeeinträchtigung. Die Auslegung des Hinterbausystems bleibt beim Betätigen der Hinterradbremse völlig neutral und aktiv. • Null Schlaglöcher. Die herausragendste Charakteristik des Systems ist seine ausgezeichnete Absorption. Sein analysierter Verlauf der Hinterachse und der lineare Charakter lassen alle Einschläge verschwinden.

The Stealth Technology is the most advanced industrial design and structure optimization technology used in the Mondraker range. Stealth encompasses all processes in the creation of the frame, from the inspiration and creation of the industrial design to the calculation of the most precise details that optimize each part for a specific function.

La technologie Stealth représente le dessin industriel le plus novateur et l’optimisation des structures la plus poussée dans la gamme Mondraker. Stealth regroupe tous les processus de création de cadre, depuis l’inspiration et la conception du dessin industriel jusqu’au calcul des éléments finis qui assurent et optimisent chacune des parties pour une fonction spécifique.

Stealth offers and innovative design, characterized by flat faces and sharp edges as opposed to the traditional curved or rounded shapes. Each tube and part is carefully designed to carry out a specific function striving to achieve the lowest possible weight of every specific part of the frame. Due to the optimization of the production process, selecting the best materials, using butted tubing technology and applying an alloy of different aluminium, Mondraker´s ultra light Stealth frames are extremely resistant with great stiffness, especially in the high stress areas of the frames where it suffers most.

Jedes Rohr und jedes Teil wurden für eine konkrete Funktion mit einem möglichst geringen Gewicht entworfen; die verschiedenen Legierungen tragen zur Widerstandsfähigkeit und notwendigen Steifigkeit bei. The industrial design has been made even more dynamic to provide more fluidity and speed to each of the tubes, achieving a lighter visual weight and a more attractive look. The characteristic flat and rectangular faces and sharp edges of the original Stealth are combined with a 90 degrees tube twist increasing so the torsional rigidity of the entire frame.

This evolution uses all the knowledge gained from the Stealth tubing to streamline manufacturing processes and reduce weight without sacrificing strength. Stealth 2.0 uses an exclusive aluminium alloy in the 6000 series to reduce internal thicknesses and is butted to achieve a final weight that’s a real record.

Mondraker presents a new concept in integration that takes Cross Country bikes to a new level. The new Podium with an IST stem offers the latest in XC Racing geometry with a lower control post and a pedal position unique in its segment. Its integrated stem design combined with the frame structure makes the whole of the front of the bike more compact, thus achieving greater stiffness and steering precision superior to any other existing steering system. The position of the stem, made entirely of Stealth Carbon, can be adjusted using an eccentric aluminium insert in the handlebar with a margin of 1 cm on both the X and Y axes. Different stem sizes are available offering lengths ranging from 80mm to 120mm. The IST stem is designed with a replaceable internal stopper system to prevent damage to the frame from the bars swinging round in a crash and ensure the longevity of the steering system.

Stealth Carbon is the most advanced carbon fibre development and optimization technology in the Mondraker range. This new technology brings all the experience gained in making aluminium frames to top of the range carbon fibre frames meeting the same innovation, quality, weight and strength requirements. The technology encompasses all processes of making the frame, from the inspiration and creation of the industrial design to the optimization of each of the high modulus carbon fibres that shape all areas. Each part of the frame is designed to carry out a specific function with the lowest possible weight. This has involved working on the fibre types, features, number and arrangement of each one combined with a painstaking compaction process using different epoxy resins which ensure the strength and durability of Stealth Carbon frames with Mondraker’s limited lifetime warranty. The new Podium Carbon 29er is Mondraker´s flagship model when it comes to Stealth technology. It is a fast and direct bike where pedalling is turned into pure forward motion with the stiffness and precision needed to win an XC World Cup race.

Mondraker se caractérise par son offre différente, c’est pour cela que nous ne pouvions pas faire un vélo de XC de plus, il devait être différent, fonctionnel, léger et attrayant. D’autre part cette année nous montons des composants qui les rendent jusqu’à 300g plus légers.
