I'm Afia Zaman, I just finished by third year as a graphic design student at DJCAD.
I love using bright colours and creating interesting visuals. To dive into the creative process, especially when it means playing around with bold colours and pushing the boundaries with interesting visual elements. Whether I'm working with magazine layouts or brainstorming branding strategies, my goal is to create work that speaks to people and leaves an impression. You can find out more about my work at the end of this PDF, I hope you’ll enjoy:)
The Magdal
B ef Outcome
The Magdalen magazine is an initiative created by the Dundee University Student Association (DUSA), designed to cater to the interests of students. It's a monthly publication, now totaling 106 issues, crafted entirely by students. Along with another Creative Director, I oversee the magazine's artistic direction and editorial responsibilities.
After taking over the role of being a Creative Director, our team has already released three issues so far this year, widely distributed across the campus.

Bottom of The Murky Pond
The concept of this design was to match the irony of the writers’ witty attitude inspite of the unfortunate events described, the 3D design shows computers (representing AI) in a cutesy manner which is ironic since it is allegedly the source of distress in this case.

The illustration aims to evoke a sense of comfort and relaxation. To achieve this, the color palette depicts a cozy movie night setup. This selection of colors is intended to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, enhancing the viewer's experience and making them feel at ease.
T asof's Symet cal World
Outcome
Develop a new design for the "This Amazingly Symmetrical World" book cover to improve its visual impact. It has to reflect the essence of the book while updating its appearance for modern audiences.
The design philosophy is heavily influenced by the principles of Bauhaus, drawing inspiration from its emphasis on the harmonious fusion of form and function, simplicity, which reflects symmetrical characteristics.

As a group design an interface that encourages interaction between one of the following at the university: People – Environment
“Interface” is to be interpreted in its broadest sense—a point where two systems, subjects, people etc.
Outcome
We developed an adventure game with collectible cards and a mobile app. We created cards featuring isometric illustrations of key locations for players to collect by visiting these sites, promoting exploration and interaction with the environment surrounding them.
The app encouraged engagement by allowing players to earn points through card collection, swapping, and attending university talks and events. This initiative brought students and staff together by promoting shared activities, discovery, and collaboration, fostering a stronger sense of community across the university.

Develop a response to the outdated design of Crawford Building to improve accessibility. Many areas, including the cafeteria and fire exits, are currently inaccessible without lengthy stairs, posing challenges for wheelchair users and the elderly.
The design concept was to use posters and stickers around spaces that were not disable friendly, to remind students/staff members about their differently abled friends who were unable to access those points.
