His latest album ‘Afterglow’ continues Jon’s flamboyant songwriting, this time following the course of two lovers over the night of a fire-lit city carnival. ‘Alone, Boden still has the energy of a twelve piece band’ EDS Magazine

Fred Morrison
Fri 7 Dec, 8 pm £14/£12
Emerging from a 9 year hiatus, cult-heroes of the Stirling music community Dead or American return with new material and a new tour. Active between 2000-2009, the band were torchbearers for Stirling’s DIY scene - starting their own label, collaborating and forming links a network of Scottish bands, and forging tours across the UK and Europe. After almost a decade in which members went on to form celebrated bands such as Hey Enemy! and Outblinker, the band return with new single ‘Letter To A Ghost’, their first new material since the late 00s.
Although born and raised near Glasgow, it's the celebrated Gaelic piping tradition of his father's native South Uist in the Outer Hebrides that forms the bedrock of Morrison’s intensely expressive, uniquely adventurous style. His first-love instrument remains the great Highland bagpipes, however over the years his mastery has expanded to encompass whistles, Scottish smallpipes, or reelpipes (Morrison being a pivotal populariser of this once-rare variety) and Irish uilleann pipes. He was also one of the first Scottish artists to forge dynamic links with his Celtic cousins in Brittany and north-west Spain, adding further to his repertoire of influences and tunes.
Shooglenifty
Christmas Ceilidhs

As happy playing a small highland village hall as they are on an outdoor festival stage, their sound fuses traditional and traditional-sounding melodies with the beats and bass lines of contemporary influences. After a summer of festival appearances and a new album out, the Edinburgh-based Acid Croft pioneers are in sparkling form. There will be dancing.
James Grant
Sat 1 Dec, 8pm £16/£14

Drawing from a broad palette of pop, folk, soul, country and blues influences, and interweaving his solo compositions with Love and Money favourites, James twins darkly literate, melodically lush songcraft with his richly potent vocals and virtuoso guitar work, leavening his performances with dashes of wickedly acerbic humour. Classics from the eighties through the noughties will be performed with customary wit, style and dexterity. Music to fill the heart and stir the soul.
Sat 8 Dec, Family 3-5pm £10/£8 Evening 7.30-10.30pm £12/£10 What better way to spend the lead up to Christmas than celebrating the festive season with friends and family in traditional Scottish style? The Dolls Dragged Up
Steve Peat – Bikes & Beers
The tan has barely faded from The Doll’s thick skin and they’re in trouble again and left lip-synching for their lives. Missing money and nutcase gangsters are just some of the disasters they’ll dodge as the Dolls are dragged through a glittering underworld of rivalries, rhinestones and rammies on a camp, crazy, gusset-drenching adventure! Will longbrewing family resentments be resolved? Or the mystery of the missing dug? Will their dormant 1980’s disco dancing skills save them from Scotland’s fruitiest, nuttiest gangsters? Not for the fainthearted or the weans under 16.
Mountain biking superstar Steve Peat tells the story of his illustrious racing career; the bikes, the world cups, the parties and the pursuit of the seemingly elusive World Championship title which some thought might never come! In Bikes & Beers, Steve takes audiences along the journey that saw him rise from plumbing to podiums and become one of the most successful men’s downhill racers of all time, showing just how the man who wouldn’t back down earned his place as a legend in the sport of mountain biking! Please note this show may contain strong language.

TOPDAY 2018 Sat 20th October Now in its fourth year, TopFest returns as TopDay for another wide range of family arts workshops, activities & performances. Staged across the Tolbooth, The Macrobert, The Smith Art Gallery & Museum, Stirling Castle and the Engine Shed, the event is a perfect way to try out a new activity, have fun as a family and maybe even discover a new interest or hobby. Over the summer there have been several activities funded by the Glasgow 2018 cultural programme running alongside the European Championships 2018 sporting activities in August. As the cycle time trial route includes Strathblane we were delighted that Stirling could be included in a variety of cultural opportunities.
This includes Scottish Opera performances for young children & families, packing up its theatre on wheels and bringing their ‘Pop-up Opera Roadshow’ to Fallin on 15th August and to Stirling on 26th August (outside The Albert Halls). Mischief la Bas street theatre add a bit of their colourful street theatre to the opening of the Special Olympics, whilst Macrobert hosted Tetradecathlon and bring ‘Cycle Cinema’ to Forthside on 12th August, working alongside Stirling Council and Heritage Environment Scotland. In addition, local community projects benefited too from a range of cultural activities including animation, photography, art and music. Six organisations were given funding for projects, Square Peg, Picture the Possible, Gossip, Doune & Deanston Youth Project, Raploch Community Trust and Stirling Plus.
Summer Workshops The venue was once again home to a wide range of fun and immersive arts activities, as the Tolbooth’s Summer Workshops programme landed in July and August. Digital music, art, crafts, puppetry and photography took place in and around the building, whilst Stirling Libraries brought brilliant tech opportunities with animation, robotics and coding. Our regular term-time workshops and classes are now on the horizon, with the new dates featured on the following pages.
