taught CPR, first aid and SafeSitter training as Cadence CPR. Last January, after Haston’s mother’s passing, Stephanie decided to launch a healthcare focused vocational training division, Cadence Healthcare Training Solutions (CHTS). This division focuses on offering short term training programs with long term career opportunities for its participants while Cadence CPR will remain focused on health and safety training programs such as CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens and SafeSitter. Haston held the grand opening of CHTS on Jan. 11, 2023, the first anniversary of her mother’s passing.

“We have accomplished a lot in a very short time to bring this to fruition,” Haston says. “We are doing this in honor of my mom and her legacy as being forever the knowledge seeker and problem solver and to reduce caregiver staffing shortages in order to meet the care needs of our community.”

Haston has a long history in the allied health education arena. She started as a medic in the military. Haston then went back to school for medical assisting. She says that career path provided her with job stability, a livable income and workable hours to raise her daughter. She now holds a master’s degree in Nursing Education.

CHTS currently offers a Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program, Advanced Skills for Nursing Assistants, American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/AED/First Aid Courses, SafeSitter Training and tutoring for nursing and allied health students with many more courses to come in the future.

“Our CNA training program is approved by The Indiana Department of Health,” Haston says. “The course is taught partially in a classroom and simulation lab setting, followed by a hands-on clinical portion which is completed at local nursing homes with which we’ve partnered.”

The classroom is equipped with two simulation lab areas, with the first designed to represent a resident’s room in long-term care facility or patient room in an inpatient facility. The second area is designated for skills such as medication administration and phlebotomy.

Haston believes cost shouldn’t stand in the way of pursuing a career in allied health or nursing. In response, she created Cindy’s Angels Scholarship Fund in honor of her mother. The scholarship assists with funding for individuals working toward acquiring the necessary training to fulfill entry-level healthcare staffing shortages.

CHTS offers many different payment options and possible funding sources for students such as clinical partner sponsorships and private donations. Haston says CHTS’s CNA program is an approved training program with the Department of Workforce Development. Potential students may contact their local Work One office to determine financial assistance eligibility.

“As a non-facility based, independent training program, our students can complete their training and then work at a facility of their choice,” Haston says. “That sets us apart from students training at a select nursing home facility. If they receive their training there, they are expected to work there.” If a student chooses an independent training program such as CHTS, the law requires nursing homes to reimburse the cost of a CNA training program once an individual is hired.

Haston’s team includes Kayla Haston, ATC/LAT, ROT, CNA and Janet Terrill, RN. Kayla leads Cadence CPR as Lead CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor, SafeSitter Program Coordinator/ Instructor as well as Simulation Lab Assistant. Terrill serves as the CNA Program Director. Haston herself is Lead CNA Instructor, CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor and Simulation Lab Director.

CHTS is hosting a Healthcare Career Exploration Camp later this summer. The next CNA training cohort begins on April 3. Registration ends March 20, 2023. CHTS is located at 951 Monument Dr. in Lebanon. For more information, visit cadencehealthcaretraining.com.
