After watching her husband, John, suffer from Grand Mal seizures, Dee Dee Taylor began researching natural alternatives to the 28 pills he had to ingest daily in order to manage his condition, which wasn’t managing his condition. John traveled west to educate himself about CBD oils and learned how to make them. “Most people don’t realize that our body has a system called the endocannabinoid system,” Dee Dee says. “Our bodies were built to receive the cannabinoids and use them for whatever is off. It helps our bodies find their natural homeostasis.” In 2014, John’s company, Commonwealth Extracts, became one of the first licensed processors in the Hemp Pilot program and continues to provide the quality Kentucky Proud hemp products for 502 Hemp.

“Being a direct source for high-quality, pharmaceutical-grade Kentucky Proud CBD oil and other hemp extract products means I don’t have a middle man, so I don’t have to mark things up,” Dee Dee says. “Plus, I know exactly where these products are coming from because I know the farmers, how they grow the products, and I know exactly how they are processed as well. That makes me different from other places just selling CBD oil.” Then there’s the difference in taste. While some companies have products that taste either artificial or earthy and organic, 502 Hemp’s do not. “One myth I’m constantly debunking is that flavor takes away from the efficacy of the oil. Not true,” Dee Dee says. “All flavor does is add to it so you don’t mind taking it. The taste of our products is second to none.”

CBD oils seem to work for many ailments, including cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, fibromyalgia, insomnia, and anxiety, to name a few. “I’ve cried with many of my customers because of what they are going through and the progress they have made,” she says. Dee Dee has seen vast improvements in her and John’s health as well. John, who once suffered two to four seizures a month, has now had just four seizures in 12 years. Plus, he’s off of all medications, as is she. Though the pandemic threatened to crush her business, she’s glad they stayed open because they were able to help people with so many issues that the pandemic caused — like depression and anxiety.

“I get goosebumps at the thought of it,” Dee Dee says. “I built this business up from nothing, and while that’s something to be In 2016, Dee Dee learned firsthand how proud of, if my products weren’t helping CBD helps with anxiety and depression. So anyone, it wouldn’t matter. I got in this she switched career paths and started selling business to help others and am so humbled, at fairs and markets, then opened 502 Hemp thankful and grateful to be in this business Wellness Center in 2018. She describes doing just that.” 502 Hemp as a boutique atmosphere that focuses on excellent customer service. 502 Hemp is located at 201 Moser Rd., Suite B in Louisville.
