INTRODUCING TOM & HIS LEAP OF FAITH
JUST WHO IS THIS TOM JACKSON ?
Tom is a designer from London. A designer now based in Melbourne. With three years of experience working in London (plus stints in Dublin, Ireland and Spain) he has decided to finally embrace his own dreams to make it big in Melbourne.
soaked up new European cultures, he finally thought now was the right time to up sticks and make a long term move to Melbourne. So he handed in his notice. Packed his bags. Said his good byes. And landed on the 11th of December.
Tom spent several months working in Melbourne back in 2007, he fell in love with your city and always harboured ambition that one day he would return! Tom was settled in London but always knew he would come back to Melbourne sooner, rather than later. Having worked for global ad agencies and national newspapers, launched a brand new phone network, awarded by D&AD and
He knows it’s a gamble. But where’s the fun in not trying? He’s not daft. He’s utterly committed to whatever job is in hand, Tom is dead set on carving out his own corner of Melbourne for years to come. In for the long term, he intends to immerse himself in the Australian lifestyle, the studio culture and make friends for life. Because he’s now livin’ the dream!
AND WHY IS THIS PAPER IN MY HANDS? Because Tom is coming to Melbourne to live, and to work. To make famous work. To make work that we’ll want to shout from the rooftops about. So you’re reading this because Tom wants to work with you and be part of your team. He wants to get in front of you and show you what he can do. He’s in Melbourne now and ready to hit the ground running.
Oh, and another thing... (stuff about Tom)
That picture is from my space in London.

Graduation May 2011 Having graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts with Honours, I was faced with actual adult issues. Taxes, jobs and making something of myself. I spent a few months on a placement at Jelly, but now it’s for real. So the day after graduation, I took the leap and moved to London with a cool £9,000 owed to the government in student loans, no job and the scary prospect of living in the Big Smoke. Shit got real!
D&AD Graduate Acadamy June 2011 Awarded by D&AD for my “Innovation for Illustration” with Diesel, I was picked to attend the first ever “Grad Acad”. This involved 100 creative students from across the UK to take part in workshops, briefs and talks. A stunning experience, with bucket loads learnt and a new network of creatives.
48 Go Conquer Sept - Dec 2011 Having impressed Telefonica’s Brand Manager within my first week of project work, I was given the opportunity to lead the creative for the launch of their brand new phone network, 48. Working in both London and Dublin, I developed the brand identity as well as art directing their campaign, which included a 60 second TVC, OOH boards and print work. A huge success for my first large scale, commercial project.
TBWA\London Oct 2011 April 2012 Winning a place on their graduate scheme “Young Bloods” after several rounds of interviews and briefs, I teamed up with a copywriter and worked on brands such as Visa, Adidas, Nissan and Game.
Sevilla, Spain May - Aug 2012 I took an opportunity to work as a Digital Media Designer for a young digital start up, with offices both in London and Sevilla. Amongst other things, I created animations for their clients having to work from an audio recording, and bring it to life through these moving visualisations. Sevilla also is a beautiful city, and improved my Spanish no end! Hablas español?!
The Independent, The i and The Evening Standard Sept 2012 Dec 2013 On returning to London, I took a job at these national newspapers. Working under a genius Creative Director I was primarily working for the commercial side. I was responsible for the branding of events, creative for various clients on how they can integrate their brand with the papers, generating digital content and producing some layout design. A high tempo, fast paced office, learning a huge amount and growing a great deal both as a designer and a person.
The ‘Moment’ Oct 2013 In 2007 I worked in Melbourne, I had an amazing time, and made many friends. I told myself I’d return one day. So that’s what I intend on doing. I fell in love with your city, it’s a place I feel I’d be able to grow and contribute to my own life and others around me. It’s a gamble, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get. So here’s to it!

Make art The art scene, very much like the music scene, is one of the best in the world. So I want to visit shows, meet artists, collaborate and do good things with good people.
