Biography I am a recently graduated Student from the Manchester School of Architecture with a Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Landscape Architecture. The MSA is the joint Architecture School between the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. I have learnt an enormous range of theory and design skills that has led me to become who I am today. Coinciding alongside my university studies was an outdoor space at the back of my garden where I had opportunities to experiment directly with some of the design skills learnt in University. I have always been emotionally moved by my surroundings from a very young age. I was fortunate enough to spend some of my childhood growing up in the greenbelt region of Cheshire and witnessing the surrounding landscape change significantly over a short period of time.

I find it extremely satisfying that my passion in Landscape Architecture has the capability of transforming peoples lives for the better, on a variety of scales. Originality, boldness and emotions always feature a lot in my design projects. Consequently, areas of interest is urban regeneration and re-urbanisation in an attempt to prevent unnecessary urban sprawl; protecting our environment and improving quality of life and mental health for those living in urban areas. My longer-term career ambition is to work as a Landscape Architect in a multidisciplinary design practice that celebrates the diversity of the profession, emphasised in the variety of different types of projects the practice takes on, and working closely with others in the Architecture and Engineering profession.

Achievements & Awards

June - September 2013: Individually designed and created the Infinity Garden. Prior to starting my degree, I designed and made a ‘secret’ exotic space in my back-garden at home. The name originating from the dense vegetation blurred the site’s boundaries and challenged the sense of space. September 2013: Began BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture degree May 2014: ‘For Sale’ Architecture Event (MSA) I was part of a group of Students who redesigned a housing estate in Sale, Manchester. Details can be provided upon request. May 2015: ‘(Re)Appropriate’ Architecture Event (MSA) I was part of a group of Students who designed a small intervention for the new Birley Fields at Manchester Metropolitan University. Details can be provided upon request. September 2015: ‘Making Cities’ Summer School, University of Sheffield The Summer School consisted of site visits, lectures from Visiting Speakers and group design projects with assistance from architects in practice. May 2016: Design and Installation of Group Exhibition held at the Manchester School of Architecture.

For my final year, I was part of a Studio Atelier called USE (Urban Spatial Explorations) which, remarkably, comprised of Architecture and Landscape Architecture Students with a strong intentions of combining the two disciplines. The Atelier had a common theme of ‘wildness’ and encouraged us to question the relationship between ‘natural’ and man-made elements in our scheme. I am interested in unstandardised architecture; creating innovative designs that are truly sensitive to their context. Furthermore, I especially enjoy working on projects involving the regeneration of urban areas experiencing economic, social and environmental decline.

My Year 3 Scheme entailed the design of a new Restorative Landscape in response to the lack of accessible greenspace and poor pedestrian connectivity in the centre of Stockport. It aims to improve the well-being and quality of life for it’s users. The scheme features a central pathway to improve links between Stockport Railway Station and Merseyway Shopping Centre. The central pathway splits the site into a ‘controlled’ and ‘uncontrolled’ zone. The controlled zone contains managed, low- lying vegetation and group seating. The uncontrolled zone features an initial tree planting grid which is allowed to evolve and develop on it’s own accord, representing my take on the Atelier’s common theme of ‘wildness’.
