Reflections on light A scenography for a John Cage performance

Noise barriers by Mario Botta in Chiasso, Switzerland

Celebrating the 50th anniversary since the birth of the New-Dada artistic group Fluxus, Atelier Blumer was asked to create a scenography in order to set a performance by the american artist Philip Corner. This happening consisted in replaying the famous John Cage’s silent piece of art 4’33’’ in a very provoking atmosphere such as the noise barriers projected by the architect Mario Botta in order to protect the city of Chiasso by the big Autoroute close to it. The student were asked to design light boxes to reflect the movement of the cars below, reflecting it in form of pure light to increase the visual effectiveness power of the silence composed by John Cage and to enjoy the spectators sitted in the rows.

The ways of living of an ambassador are not comparable to those of an ordinary man. The institutional role which is called imposing a lifestyle markedly different. In carrying out its functions diplomatic ambassador lives unconventional spaces, while during his private life you can imagine daily life in space more anonymous, marked by common activities of a household. The specificity of a house, therefore, that responds to multiple ways of living, more functions, to a greater complexity. The ambassador’s life - in his dual capacity as public and privately, that of his eventual host and that of the service personnel are held under the same roof. Under this umbrella of the stories of each of the inhabitants are intertwined and at the same time are held separately.

9 Milan corner sites Collective housing, rebuild the angles Designing nine angles through via Paolo Sarpi, Milan, Italy

Build the corner leads to a twofold consideration: making the angle in plan, or bend, and ensure the transition between the two sides continued, or connect. Making the angle is a condition, the composition of the plant, inevitable. It is what sets the limits of the space enclosed and this only makes sense when you gives a thickness to the surface (the construction) or empty (space). The angle reveals both the coating thickness is the ability of the architect manufacturer. It strengthens and stabilizes the individual walls, and projects the interior space to the outside. Building the angle is out of the monotony, you recognize the limitations of a facade, is to give strength to the work not deny it. Furthermore, the angle has this rare quality, two distinct elements creates one.

2^ price competition Marubi’s National Gallery in Shkodraa

Restoration of the major albanian historical photo gallery

The design approach was to carefully maintain the building historical envelopment and prepare the indoor space for the realization of the gallery. In its new location the National Photo Gallery Marubi will expose the antique collection though a modern point of view. The design proposal arranges the gallery around two main spaces: a public open spce for exhibitions on the ground floor, a work space for the gallery staff and archive for the Marubi collection on the first floor. The photo Gallery Marubi will be provided with an archive which doubles the nowadays storage capacity. To retain the gallery disposition, it must be extended and preserved as legacy for the future, conserving the iconic aspects of the building.

professional internship Hungarian National Museum of Architecture

Competition in Zvi Hecker’s office, Fehrbelliner Str. Berlin

The aim of the design of the building for the Photomuzeum Budapest and for the Hungarian Museum of Architecture is to re-give the old New-Gate to the City Park. They consist of two identical presences that mark historical accesses to the green area with their solid and monolithic features. They will represent a land mark for visitors and passers by. They stand like friendly guardians of the entrance to the City Park, distracting the walkers eventually from their destination by inviting them to visit their precious collections. The solid body of each building opens in Vshaped form toward the Monument of the Revolution 1956, almost embracing it. The rondo is framed and the space gains consequently structure because of the two new buildings.

structural competences Mario Botta’s library structural verification How to structurally and physically test a wooden building

The building began as a temporary building used to house classes, lectures, meetings and exhibitions. The implementation is based on a sketch of the maxim that architects Mario Botta and Aurelio Galfetti have developed in collaboration with Professor Natterer. The year of construction is 1996 and in 2002 changed the classroom multipurpose function becoming Biblioteca dell ‘Accademia with the’ addition of a mezzanine for study desks. The initial project was designed so that it can accommodate any future expansion and new expansions to provide flexibility to the structure: the foundations of ‘building form a grid evenly distributed which made possible the construction of the mezzanine mentioned before.

In the footsteps of Friedrich Nietzsche, Walter Benjamin, Jacques Derrida and Pierre Bourdieu – among others – Trace(s) attempts to decipher and comprehend the semiological, iconographical, archeological and ideological remnants in the production of architecture, their lasting and ephemeral natures as well as their original determinations. 41
