Illustration 3-D Charcoal
Ring Around the Rosie The high contrast found in historical pen and ink illustrations was the inspiration for this piece. I used charcoal because I enjoy the added texture it has to offer. I have always been drawn to pop-up books and stories which contain hidden features that would excite the imagination. I created this 5-layer diorama in hopes to invite the viewer into the image and encourage them to explore.

Doodle Books Doodle books are as fun to make as they are to view. They help to expand the imagination to create content and are a good exercise for the mind. You find yourself immersed in its creation, and it makes you aware of content in the outside world you never noticed previously. It’s like a fun little game to play that enhances the way you see the world.

Illustration Fine Art
Watercolor This is a watercolor illustration I created for the dedication ceremony of the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center at Gonzaga University. This insert art print was a gift for the attendees. It’s inspiration stemmed from Ms. Woldson’s favorite flower, the pink geranium.

Illustration Printmaking This print is made with an intaglio process in which texture is used to create the image. The inspiration for this image comes from a recently surfaced letter written by my Great Grandfather. It recalls his first ten years in Italy before moving to America. He describes himself, a child, working all day as a crop shares son. For a full day’s work, their only compensation would be an onion and a piece of bread. I think of this illustration as a poor man’s still life.

Illustration Branding Ello The branding of Ello (Early Learning & Literacy Opportunities) was a service-learning project for the educational department at Eastern Washington University. Creating this brand identity was a group project with two of my classmates. My role was to create a color pallet that would appeal to community members of all ages, graphics of iconic imagery of the city of Spokane, Washington, and a graphic to be placed in bus shelters around the city. Ello can be found in grocery stores, city buses, libraries, and soon to be in city parks.

The ABC’s of Botany This book was created to showcase hand-lettered glyphs. Each letter of the alphabet represents a different scientific name of a plant. To create the body content, my classmate and I researched interesting facts and mystical properties of each plant to give the book a fun and whimsical perspective. The objectives of creating this book were to practice the use of hierarchy while pushing the limits of typesetting and experimental layouts.
