on the other hand will slide over anythinS. It's the quality of slide

on

plastic is less controlled than sliding

on metal, because the plastic offers so little resistance to whatever you

are grinding. Plastic is also rela-

is

lost on most manufacturers. since

they don't actually do grinds. There is a lot to be said for the sound metal

It is extremely gratifying. The ideal

The concept .for the grind set up known to me

wrenches.

The idea was first presented to me by Brian Konoske who had taken a Rollerhlade wrench and fastened it to the side of his frames. The beau-

ty of the wrench, which every other manufacturer has overlooked, was that when you fastened

it to

your

frame. several millimeters of frame

were still exposed beneath the

then wearing a groove into the frame so that the plastic frame and metal grind plate were flush. The

control and gratification of metal, and the versatility of plastic all in

one. The ideal grind set

SCRAP

IN LINE COMPETIT]ON The SCRAP contest was exactly what our sport needed. Despite a few very minor blemishes (two cafiwheels, and one Saturday Night Feverish street run that consisted of nothing but spins and street funk) the event was a success. Thanks in large part to the excellent planning, preparation, and ultimate execution of the event by the e[tire SCRAP crew, and the enthusiasn of the some 40+ skaters that showed up. Pat Parnell, Mark Shays, and myself flew out to the Windy City to share judging duties with local skater Tracy (fill in last name). The conte.t Lon\i.ted of L'ur caleporie.: Droolers (Beginners), Stud Boys(lnterlnediate), Freak Show(Advanced). and womens(Womens). and three dillerenl c\enl:: \lree(. spine Inini 1amp, and vert. The skaters were judged on style, creativity, and difficulty. Some highlights of the competition were: The womens class. Originally there wasr't going to be one, but the ladies came and there lvas no denying their place in our sporl. So we got in louch with our feninine sidc and were treated to some spirited competitiofl. Kate Gengo ruled the \rreet coursc uilh \ome oi the mo.( proglessile skating seer all day. front-side g nds, soul grinds. pelvic thrusts. Melissa Harned dropped in on vert for the first time, and Cinger Conrad dominated rhe nrini-ramp cUmpetition with an impressive trick vocabulary including 360's, full cabs, and two fisted inverts. Ralph Koch and Dion Roldan were in full flipping capacity. Ralph was pulling back flips with tull twists and Dion was skying over the box
