Mamanuca Islands

An exquisite collection of sun-drenched islands floating in a bath of South Pacific blue, the Mamanuca Islands are the backdrop to your Robinson Crusoe dreams! Crystalline waters, volcanic-charged isles and sweeping beaches appear to be torn straight from a picture-perfect postcard. As the closest group of islands to the traditional entry point of Nadi on Viti Levu, the Mamanuca Islands are only a short half-anhour hop away once you touch down in Fiji. Don’t dismiss the journey, though, as getting there is all part of the thrill, whether you choose to cruise the limpidblue waters by speedboat or glimpse exciting tropical panoramas on a seaplane or helicopter. The Mamanuca Islands have fired the imaginations of Hollywood directors as well as travellers, with the sculpted bays and lush jungle of Monuriki Island starring in the Tom Hanks 2001 blockbuster Cast Away.

Once you’re there, you’ll quickly be charmed by the relaxed locals during your stay, with visits to nearby villages, such as Yaro and Solevu on Malolo Island, offering you the chance to share in a traditional ‘lovo’ feast, try your hand at basket-weaving or pick up some Fijian phrases – the greeting bula, meaning ‘life’, will become second nature to you by the end of your visit. The accommodation stays true to its Fijian roots, too, and you can stay in bures (local-style bungalows) which hover over idyllic azure lagoons or sit nestled amongst fragrant frangipanis and swaying palms. Local staff are eager to share their fascinating culture and traditions with you, whether it’s through a meke dance, taking you on guided walks through lush island interiors or simply encouraging you to relax into island time!

The azure waters and kaleidoscopic reefs that surround these islands make this region prime snorkelling territory. Paddle the ripples around Malolo Island to be surrounded by schools of tropical fish, including longnose butterflyfish and emperor angelfish, while
