Ibiza Brothers Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike's Garden of Madness
Without any doubt, they’re Tomorrowland’s biggest sweethearts, and they’re Belgium’s biggest DJs by far. They’re just as big on the White Island of Ibiza, though. Bringing the block-rocking beats to Ushuïa with their very own Garden of Madness event every Tuesday are none other than brothers in arms, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The boys have come a long way since moving to the island in 2003 and playing their first set at Tomorrowland in 2009. In between taxiing from the island of dreams to Tomorrowland, they took a moment to share their thoughts.
Until the end of the season you guys will be raising heaven and hell over Ibiza every Tuesday with your Garden of Madness nights. One can only imagine how mad those nights are. Could you paint that picture for us please?
Mike: “Oh man, it goes off big time! We’ve played at many parties in Ibiza over the years, but last year undoubtedly marked one of our best summers on the island. The Garden of Madness concept we are doing together with Tomorrowland has become a unique show that is unlike anything else - even in Ibiza!
Dimitri: “Our advice is to just come to one of the shows and soak up the atmosphere, because it really is something very special! The energy in the crowd is insane, and the venue makes the feel of the concept work really well. The marvelous production from the team behind Tomorrowland is a great help, too.”
Who will be your guests this summer, joining in on the Madness in Ibiza?
Mike: “We’ve got a big bunch of close friends coming over to party with us this summer! Everyone from Diplo, Steve Aoki, Steve Angello, and W&W to our little brother Lost Frequencies.
Dimitri: “There will also be a series of unannounced ultra-special surprise guests, so come over and check it out for yourself.”
Do you consider the artists that are coming over to be your friends? Will you battle each other B2B during the parties?
Dimitri: “We put together a line-up of close friends and artists whom we respect and whose music we love.” Mike: “Our main goal is to give the fans what they want - with a little extra - so our choices are rooted in music, before anything else. We’ll definitely do some special B2B’s across the summer, but we’re keeping those occasions a surprise for now.”
For the People of Tomorrow who have never been there, what kind of place is Ushuïa?
Mike: “Ushuïa is a venue that possesses an incredibly unique vibe. The experience Ushuïa offers is high-end, but with a very forward-thinking attitude towards the modern era of clubbing.” Dimitri: “Just take a simple look at the day-to-day line-ups and you’ll get a sense of the level of fun they have to offer. It retains the spirit of Ibiza but gives it a new twist. It’s a great open-air venue where there’s airplanes flying overhead as you’re looking at one of the best stage setups in the world - it’s fair to say it’s pretty much the best venue on the island.”
When you’re not working or playing, what are you up to? Do you still party like there’s no tomorrow?
Mike: “We are massive music fans. It’s great to go out and check out other DJs when they’re playing from time to time. When we have the chance and when we’re not on the road, we will go out and party.”
Dimitri: “We also take our time to relax and chill out. We have to recharge from the madness of our shows. It’s good to unwind and kick back with family and friends. I just love to take my boat out and go for a cruise at sea.”
How does your family feel about these crazy lives you live? Do you ever get asked if you’ll ever grow up?
Dimitri: “They absolutely love it! Music keeps all of us young at heart, so I’m sure they’re not worrying about that. Even our grandparents still come to a lot of shows.”
Your grandparents were part of the audience when you played here in 2013. What was it like for them to be part of the Madness? Do they join you in Ibiza?
Mike: “They love the whole vibe. It’s pretty crazy for them to be a part of this madness and get to share the moment. And for us it’s pretty exciting as well, since we get to share all of this with them.”
Dimitri: “Yeah, we do have our family over and join us in Ibiza over the season. It’s a beautiful island that everyone should come and experience.”
How do people get in on the Garden of Madness events? Do all tickets go through presale or will you also have tickets at the door?
Mike: “We definitely recommend you buy your tickets online in advance! The shows sell out and I promise you it will be an experience you don’t want to miss. Trust me: it’ll be wild!”
Dimitri: “It’s growing each week, so come and join us!”
