KOMMUNIKATIONS MASCHINE ZÜRICH
KOMMUNIKATIONS MASCHINE ZÜRICH
PUBLIC, INNOVATORS, INMATES. THE PUBLIC AND INNOVATORS WILL SHARE IDEAS IN FLEXIBLE SPACES.
THE INMATES WILL FOLLOW STRICT TASKS IN REGIMENTED SPACES, LEAVE THEM TO LEARN FROM A REWARDING EXPERIENCE, DON'T HUMILIATE AND BELITTLE.
THIS IS A MACHINE FOR COMMUNICATION, NOT FOR DISGRACE.
This is a communication machine in Zurich, where bankers - through corruption or other failings - are kept prisoner and serve the building. The building is a tool for interface between the public and innovators who visit the city. The inmates are kept out of view, their tasks are to maintain the building and care for chickens, bees and a herb garden to provide food for the restaurant

Main spaces of the program expressed as timber boxes, framing views.
Boxes are wrapped in a public route, snaking through the building sucking in the market
The building is split and lifted to allow light into the exterior atrium and to make space for the farm where inmates grow herbs and care for bees and chickens to provide food for the restaurant
Inmates are housed in a tower that is connected to the service spaces.
Guest rooms are protected from direct sunlight with shading.
REGIMENTED INMATE ROOMS
FLEXIBLE GUEST ROOMS
Inmate rooms are designed as a procession whereas in the guest rooms activity is contained in moveable pods.
Flexibility in guest and public spaces is achieved with containing activity within moveable interior structures

VENTILATION GUEST supply
INMATE return
Due to the depth of the guest rooms, a HVAC system is required for ventilation
As the inmate rooms are shallow, natural ventilation is sufficient
Heating and cooling can be delivered to all spaces via ducts from the plant room at 1st floor level.
