a club More nights where pool or other activities occur for both sexes. People have complained in the latest edition of Pugwash that the Waterhole has become a male oriented area, The balance issue should be resolved, plus it’d be nice to see some change to the layout. They should reopen the club upstairs in the union. Actual Nightclub A night club nightclubs Bring back the night club but better than before Bring the club back! Nightclub in the union at more competitive prices compared to other unions around the country Bring back the club nights on a Saturday, the waterhole is old fashioned and its not a great place to spend the night, if upstairs reopened socials would stay there. It’s ridiculous that we do not have a real union. Club Student only nightclubs where you don’t just get chucked out onto the pavement if you’re slightly tipsy but looked after. More cheaper drinking days It would be good to have a student nightclub again! Maybe having the 3rd space as a disco or something once a week as i really enjoy going up there but sometimes during the week its closed. E.g. Saturdays A nightclub. better Bar facility, cheaper drinks night promotion renew waterhole, to make more attractive menu and the whole bar.

Representation • • •

Representation of the student body at NUS events I thought you did student reps so maybe offer that further afield to phd. I didnt have an option to tick Anonomous staff feedback, for training. Have the clubs/AU/Society policies posted on line so students know their rights and what they can do about situations. Opportunity to talk to student reps about problems rather than a tutor or counsellor.

Social • • •

More socials for freshers during freshers week. Inter house competitions Maybe something like a singles ball or some sort of event to help people make new friends outside their area of study and accommodation halls. It should hold more nights, maybe themed night, to try and get people in. More quizzes or other sorts of things along those lines. More events for students living in the langstone student village, it’s difficult for us to get to the quizzes etc on weekends. more student events, like the quiz night is a good idea, more like that. a better night life at the uniom just general activities where you can meet people and hang out with friends A speed friend service, instead of speed dating so that students from all years and courses can

• • • • • • • • • •

Nights when alcohol is allowed upstairs, gigs, concerts, shows etc. competitions Quiz night more events accasible by all not just sportos better opportunites for sports teams and societies and more social opportunites more pizza more events just for student like talent show just for a laugh. a wii more social nights apart from purple wednesday for people who arn’t in societies to meet.

More community engagement Friendlier sports officers socialising, sports, volunteering and fundraising activities, charitable events More charity events A greater diversity of societies. Bring back a club instead of third space. It would make for a safer student environment instead of highlight and would intergrate students, clubs and societys. Bring back co2/lux. CLUB!! Night club?

more storage for society equipment They should have more seating for people to hang out and eat. A job wall where business can come in and post posters reduce the prices on the third space!! A dartboard and a plasma TV in third space! more pool tables, and better cues Internet Cafe Fashion based services. Lots of space for people to do work and just relax Maybe a computer room there too I think there should be a few computers around at some part of the union. I don’t know if it is the Union’s job to do it but some kind of canteen for lunch would be useful. I mean a place where you can have a whole meal for a reasonable price and not the snacks you get at the cafeterias. computers in 3rd space A computer suite would be a good idea, for both the facebook lovers and hardworking students - as the library is always full. Also, a good idea for an activity would be to offer the Duke of Edinburgh award, I know a lot of people who are interested in doing it and I feel this would be a great idea for the SU to offer. a computer suite as the university ones are 90100% full every single day and it is hard to find a computer A student union sponserd swimming pool within the gym membership.

I think what the union has is already very good.

No improvements • • • • •

• • • • • • • •

No Improvement - Continue as is everything it already is Good as it is. Continue doing the same activities that are currently running. I’m no longer such a regular visitor as before but I think it offers enough with the addition of third space and showing sports in the waterhole do my particular needs are catered for What they already do really. I feel there is enough choice already Its all fine at the moment everything they currently have happy with the services offered All the services/activities I require are offered already. they already offer everything all they do now

Marketing • • •

The same as it as at the moment but publicise more University of Portsmouth app with news bulletins new pugwash articles, everything all in one place. Purple wednesday back at the UNION. I feel the services/activities offered are good at present however I wasn’t aware of things such as Academic Support until my final year. So maybe a brochure listing the services offered by the union (if there isn’t already one!) I dint know you are offering so many things, I thing you just need to advertise them more. I think you just need to advertise the ones you do offer more. There should be a place in the union where you can go where information is readily available about all the goings on and upcoming things.

ball tournements for people who aren;t too serious about joining a team A judo club. providing clubs/societies and communication with everyone involved in the university about whats going on i.e.e pugwash, pure FM “Salsa Travelling society” Free stuff for students, cheaper food, theatre, cinema days, battle of bands nights etc...free NUS cards More volunteer opportunities a flair soc It already provides a lot of useful services such as FF for the benefit of students. I feel that international students find the opportunities very limited when it comes to participating in some of the sports clubs and societies. there should be more effort put into easing international students into such groups Sports, Societies, Welfare and Advise Cheaper classes at the gym more non drinking ones possibly more fayres or events to get freshers out more and interacting more trips do different cities/countries for fundraising, marches or anything really ghost hunting society, and a crazy fighting club :) More varsity involvement both academic and sporting: joint talks/lectures from guest speakers, debates. Straight acting society rather than DMS More activities, lots of students don’t actually know what is going on, apart from purple wednesday because it happens every week, also activities have to be more publicised Something for mature students. ? I don’t know all the stuff the union does? Disappointed as a (only just) mature student that my partner cannot participate more e.g. with societies/ sport activities. Makes it harder to participate in social side of student life as eats

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

More informal dropin help such as maths cafe. support and advice for new students, in particular those who don’t get along with flatmates in halls etc. Home student - but better service for international students. should at lest do sth like alcohol awareness week as the drinking among student is ridiculous. A ‘safe bus’ service, or more running in the evenings Support with not only being a student academically but also outside of that. Eg. Housing help, maybe drug and alcohol awareness etc. more help/advice legal advice for students to know their rights Sex health services and student advice Cooking advice as I know myself and a lot of my friends struggle with what to eat etc support and information A night bus after purple wednesdays that goes down albert rd. More social days for freshers. Cooking lessons. It should offer more assitance with student problems. free burger coupons or something similar Possibly more financial advice to freshers regarding loans, overdrafts, tax, even paying for prescriptions. They could offer some kind of non-academic support. You will probably find that students would prefer to come and talk to a younger people who have probably been in that situation. There are probably support groups out there, but the Student Union is usually a first

point of contact for new students. Student mentoring or counselling. Having a peer to talk to rather than a lecture or counsellor would be a big help sometimes More help towards helping students find part time work. Cheaper alcohol at the waterhole. Be open for dinner sometimes! The upstairs of the union the nightclub bit used to be a really good night out for all the sports clubs on a wedesday is missed loads and now the upstairs is hardly used. It should be reopen! Reopen the nightclub! Why did they decide to close it? It seems that if they had only opened upstairs on a weds and a saturday, more people would go, especially during freshers week, new students don’t know much about the clubs when they get here and pay ridiculous amounts of money for freshers packages which aren’t even value for money. More events at union bar More social activities held in the union, keep up quiz night, purple Wednesdays etc Reopen club Regain control over the building to offer students a safe haven 24/7 not just while the library decides to have third space open. Bring back the nightclub! buy more pool tables and better cues make our student bar bigger!!! it’s simply not big enough for 22,000 students! and the food should be cheaper, the waterhole is more expensive than all other uni eateries. keep sports cheaper, that’s the whole point of uni! re open lux as a club!!!! Get re-decorated make their draught beer taste better Make more nights out! Make saturday evenings free! Bring back CO2 and LUX because it was brilliant for purple wednesdays. make the waterhole better - redesign and improve the food Get new furniture and refurbish the waterhole. traipse to Highlight, the 3rd space is not useful, the uni needs more computers not a space to work in. bring back lux open more of a livley venue with bands maybe Keep up the good work? Keep on supporting students and keep arguing against the increase of fees Host more live gigs from local student bands have more events in the union free beer for sports club members Make the Waterhole larger and with more seats! buy a ps3. show wales rugby matches on one of the big screens instead of england being on both. cheaper drinks :D Why did you change, the Union used to be great, Wednesday nights are not the same now. live sports on multi screen at the same time hold more events at the union Third space should have the option to be used as a venue room for nights/events - a bit of moving around and having DJs/bands in there would be easy, as I feel it goes to waste a little, and could be used in evenings when the Waterhole is busy. turn the volume down abit at night. when lots of people are there its hard to hear people let alone with the music on top. get some bands/gigs at the SU Serve food on weekends! Clean out the Waterhole Bar.. It’s minging! open the cafe in 3rd space reopen the club upstairs! re-open the club that was at the union a few years ago Bring back the club part of the union or extend the Waterhole improvement of the student union bar. it is not nearly cheap enough for drink, and the seating is unappealing not ask for ID when you get you need it to get

improve the actual union centre Can u get more than 1 football game showing at the weekend/ champions league on different monitors free pool all the time BRING BACK LUX AND CO2. Organise Non-alchol based or sports based activities Be the dj for the night More nights at the union. improve the union bar More events in the watering hole. bring back purple wednesday to the union clean up the union bar a bit, it’s fairly gross in there! Make Stuff Cheaper for Students, to reopen the club upstairs in the union. Nightclub! Create more events so that people can join events at the Union. Or, more meal deals would bring in a lot more firs,t second, and third year students. Re-instate the night club Bring back the club! put the saturday drinks back to £1.20! Stop playing football all the time. Cheaper drinks ;) Re open the club, with a more driven approach. Only open on days it will be busy. give a larger choice of food Hold more nights for students. Is the pub quiz still running this year? I haven’t seen any flyers. Get the club back! expand and get a club night club again more parties bring back the club instead of third space! Strong feedback system through course reps to the University. Help us with coursework a few weeks ago i wanted to come to you to ask to put some pressure on the university for for installing a new bus route. Its not enough the rout from langstone. More available jobs for students make sabbs more visible, freshers still have no clue who you are I would like to complain about the CV check every wendsday. It is hell. I have lectures till late afternoon and for 3rd week they refuse to check my CV at 3pm (they work till 4pm) as they dont have enough people !!!! More contact between students and the representatives maybe have a little more consideration for postgraduates, especially those like myself coming from other universities. I don’t know if I’d have been welcome in some cases because it seems like fresher’s events are all for the 18-year-olds. Give students free NUS cards and no entry fees on club nights I just want you to defend my rights and be there when I need you, I do not really care

Since my 1st year the price for the sports club I was formally a part of has gone up £255 due to changes in the prices every uni year. They should hold more console gaming tournaments can i join your team?! have a nuion travel to bath Make graduation ball a proper ball. A normal union night with a fun fair is not a ball, and black tie should mean black tie only. I hope for my 2nd graduation that it will be better or I will be saving my £35. Would really like to see a breakdown of money spent of 2010 grad ball. Advertised as cheaper than Birmingham (£45), yet they had a 3 course meal, glass of champagne and glass of pimms included. Meeting new people sessions Cheaper membership for sport and kit as football membership and minimum kit not including training kit and tracksuit cost me upward of 200 pounds Details & Information for all societies club etc : Location, Who in charge, Who to talk with. Why do you favour the bigger sports to organise some kind of socialising trips, one of them could be bicycle trip to hayling island :) Help me meet more people Is it possible for suggestions to what charity can have fundraising for them through the union? Bring back the otcopush club Set up a judo club as there is enough people here that want to do it. Why do you spend so much money on Pugwash and Pure-FM when there is only a very small number of people actively involved in creating the publications and even less that actively read/ listen to it!! To make running an academic society a little bit easier, and to promote their activities a little bit more - most of the time I have no idea what is going on at the union. Run open air gigs Give windsurfing more funding? provide more information before Freshers by posting a freshers book, within which you organise freshers related things to keep people busy throughout the week. involve societies and sports together more somehow. Organise theme park trips Cut sports fees and open up the union night club again limeted drinks vouchers for teams that play on a wednesday to bring teams back to drinking at the union, once people have had a free drink they are much more likely to stay and so will increase profits on a wednesday.

QUESTION: If you had one thing you would ask the Union to do - what would it be?

about sports team and socs but I would like to feel I could go to the Union as a mature student and phd. As it does not reach out to me like my old Union did at Bath be friendly and available to everyone and anyone, not just popular people Bring back the union!!! provide another bar at the waterhole when will you refurbish the toilets? Try and organise a bus that also does drop-offs along albert rd. Ensure that Wednesday afternoons are free for all students so they can participate in sports Start a student mentoring service

STUDENT VIEWS & OPINIONS

in anyway Renovate the main bar, is old and tired. Possibly create or add new events to nights, put the club back into 3rd space or make it hirable for societies to have events in. Purchase new mini buses, current ones are in poor condition, including falling off doors... Give us a nightclub! The bar doesn’t really fit a lot in and even the ‘cheap’ student nights at local clubs can cost quite a bit! Clean out the pipes more or get nice beer never had a nice pint of fosters in there always tasted a bit funny, therefore having to mask the taste with black

STUDENT VIEWS & OPINIONS

Have more organisation in terms of sports and hall bookings. Get more students involved with the Students Union Clubs and Societies. lower prices of sports wear Try and keep costs down. Some of the societies are a little on the pricey side... a gay pride :D Be more “visibly” active how can i get involved more? be more fair to smaller clubs/societies More support for drama! Provide more events! Things like daytrips out or and activities that make people come together but without the need for drink and clubbing!
