Pohledového betonu a travertinu.

HILLSIDE PACHECO

OPEN PACHECO CELIA GARCIA ALBERTOS

The location at the new open multifunctional (theatre) space provokes to use “the lighthouse” and the major aim was to create a mental urban landmark. Concentration and diversification of programs was forced here by a demand of democratic city human live with no constrains and necessities. The project covers 4 main functions: student and small units (starting) residences, covered urban market, retail and sport facilities for both indoor and outdoor use. All users can meet on the open ground floor where is located the entrance into the passage. To bring more people and to activate all programs it was crucial to place the market square exactly on the top of two pedestrian streams (to the passage and to the entrance to Congress train station).

RED ART CENTER DEVRIM KOCOGLU

The Lighthouse project of Hillside Pacheco reflects the symbol of complex urban living which nowadays defines criteria such as: pedestrian accessibility, visual orientation, open public space, citizen’s security, multi-use urban buildings etc. In the middle of Pacheco may grow an urban dominant of different meaning. With meaning other than just commercial symbol or social diversion how it used to be in this area. The urban living has to be promoted by several attractive programs, which overlap each other to provide all day use under reasonable urban control. The dominant tower with its 80 meter height provokes the financial tower to interesting dialogue and in fact decreases its dominancy.

The typical two storey family house is divided into 2 parts according to the use (day and night). The open facade faces to the garden on the ground level. Covered patio provides possibility to sit and have a rest during the summer evenings. There is a volume contrast between the ground (shared ) and first (private) floor rooms. Particular rooms for children are designed smaller to avoid them to “hide in their rooms. This provokes them to come up and meet other family members in the living room.

Pearls The fairy tale world consists of Andersen’s stories, each story is a pearl which can be found after visitor enter our treasure box. Pearls are organized into the network of rooms of various size and locations connected to each other with pathways. Both pathways and pearls are used to tell the story. To one pearl usually leads at least two different introduction corridors where the same story is described differently according to the age, interest or passion of the visitor. Each exhibition room presents one of Andersens fairytales.

There are several entries, each of them presents storyline in different layer of presented fairytale.

The Game The period of time, when young explore the world is crucial in the upbringing period. Everything is new and one must try as much he can to get experiences. The game is best known way to learn new skills and to get new insights. The museum forces its visitors to play. The approach is inspired by the time, wheneveryone of us was young and got first impressions of Andersen´s fairy tales.

The Spiral Opposite to vibrant city around the Thomas B Thriges Gade road, there is located organic element creating center tranquil and private environment in the public garden. Nearby the Andersen´s birthplace is designed spatial relieve, contrary to intense world of fairy tales. It is two level Spiral which rises from the underground, creates an overlook towards the Lotze’s garden and then descends back. The sloping spiral also links together Andersen´s birthplace and pearls of the exposition. In the basement of the spiral are located restroomsand place for refreshment, café and snack bar.

plan site

Other urban feature is the pedestrian corridor leading from the west to the east and due to corridor orientation the main cubic shape is slightly turned westward. That results in dominant position of the square corner. This volume is lifted up and it opens the ground floor for the public. In addition, glazed façade from 3 sides makes the entrance hall and the café airy and specious. Expositions are shown in the 4 storey cube with perforated façade, which shines at night and lures visitors. Each floor consists of the exhibition hall, facilities and study room. What is more, there is even one lecture hall on the ground floor. The whole project is focused on implicity and gives absolutely freedom for any kind of an artist. That is the main goal at which is aimed my design.

MASTER PLAN ANALYSIS KAAT, CELIA, TOMAS, DEVRIM

The north-south connection in Brussels has been a recurrent topic since its development in the 20th century and from many years the question has led to the proposal of several projects to improve the ‘jonction’ in terms of accesibility, connection, uses, etc. The idea was to keep the concept of an open area that people could use in different ways and at the same time worked as a ‘receiving’ point. The slope below the monument works as the terrace for theatre and in front of it there’s a big open plaza where people can transit or meet together for

any kind of event.Once people come to live here, there will be needed extra facilities which, as said before, have to do with daily life: commercial, bars, etc. These will be placed in a more limited area of the site, between the long office building on the east and the west facade of the avenue. This part is solved in a softer way with four levels who work as terraces that people can access easily. While we take away part of the parking for the big plaza, in this more ‘controlled’ area we keep part of it and, at the same time, we change the way it’s used.

INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM Level of the roadway and the pavement is unified. Well organize green islands and other visual barriers supports traffic fluency and safety. Different ground textures for mix use. Car speed decrease - comunication between walkers, bikers, drivers and tram is balanced on the same ground level. Ringlaan South square is designed for people under the great redesigning project of the Ringlaan Street. One of the solutions is pushing parking cars out to the south of the city of Wenduine. Old parking lots are replaced by trees and new established infrastructure system of the South crossing is one of the main changes. Car transportation in suburban areas is important for sure.

Social activities include children at play, meeting and conversations, communal activities of various kinds, sive contacts, that is, simply seeing and hearing other people. Jan Gehl (1987)

According to new trends, traditional car parks are history. The future lies in parking towers. South square got a dominant which is 39 meter high witch additional leisure function. It respects the height of the Church tower at the city center, which is another visual dominant. Hand in hand with other changes on the Ringlaan street the city of Wenduine is connected with all its parts and we can say, that it is empowered. Mis? Fachuco nsules, unum Romnemo vide inculicam

ACCESSIBILITY

GREEN AREAS

ZONES, EDGES, LINES, LANDMARKS

Wenduine, as a small city on the Flemish coast, can clearly be considered as a typical example tourist oriented town. People we have met can be clearly divided into two different, non-interfering groups – the visitors (tourists and second residence owners) and the inhabitants (usually mid-aged families). The Rignlaan is the symbolical border between those two groups, but also between dominating housing typology – northern more dense urban fabric and southern suburbs. Our main idea was creating the common space for both of those groups, a space for interference, catalyzer of social interactions, providing services and leisure.

Our main idea is somehow “zipping” the divided city. As, according to Jan Gehl and Jane Jacobs, fast car movement discourages (deter?) people from using public space, the car road has been designed to weave through the city. The liberated space is going to be arranged as green commons, with spot architectural interventions. Our particular projects will be designed to serve democratically not only the whole Wenduine but also potentially attracting people from other cities.
