Criteria of Eligibility: If you are really interested in applying for US citizenship, first make sure that all of the subsequent appeals to you: Do you live in the States as a lawful stable resident for at least 5 years. There are certain exceptions for refugees, inhabitants who get their green card through spouses of US citizens and US military personnel. At least for half of the last five years you have been physically present there. You have not spent more than one year outside the US. At least you are 18 years old with good moral character and able to speak, read, and write in US English. You are able to pass a test, which is covering US history based questions. You should be willing to pledge that you believe in the principles of the US constitution and will be loyal to the US government.
