THE PEOPLE OF CATALONIA

Whilst in Catalonia I found the culture very interesting and the most important thing that makes up a culture, in my opinion, is the people of the country. That is why I decided to photograph Catalonian people and interview them about their culture. This is a book of images of the people I photographed.

“The most important thing to me as a Catalonian is the language and the celebratory nature of the culture. There is a good mixture of celebrations and work. There is a lot of talent here in Catalonia and that is very inspiring to me.

“One day we went to see the Castellers and she said that that was what she wanted to do, since she could stand she has just been climbing, it’s all she wants to do.” Were you not scared at first as she does climb quite high? “Yes but I am not going to be the one to stand in her way of what she wants to do, I will be there for her but she has to learn to fall first to climb higher.”

“Vinga vinga, t’agrada olives? Three packets for one euro, one euro, bon preu.”

“My favourite thing is the catalan dances like the Bastons, Mallorquins and etc.

“Hmm my favourite thing about my culture is ... wait let me put the sunglasses on. I look better now.

“The people who live here, they are very different from the rest of Spain. My favourite thing is the feelings of the people - how people feel towards Catalonia.

“My favourite thing about the Catalonian culture... I do not know, I am Spanish.

“The most important thing to me about our Catalonian culture is the feeling of nacionality, the unity of community and the language. My favourite thing would have to be the festivals and the traditions like Saint George.

“There was a dragon and a soldier kills the dragon and from the cave of the some roses and then the soldier keeps the roses and give to a princess and no boys buy roses for a girl and the girls buy books, exactly.

“The most important thing to me is the unity of the people and my favourite is the Correfoc festival, with the horns and the fork the devil, si and the fire everywhere.

“We are here in Yellow and Red.”

Thank you to everyone who has allowed me to photograph them and for taking part in my book.
