The 55-year-old has built a land rover with a shower inside – the first of its kind –to take through the continent and will stop off to volunteer at an orphanage on the way. Kat and her friend Nicole Taylor intend to be away for six to nine months depening on the visa situation.

Kat decided whilst planning a trip to South Africa that she would go out of her way to start looking at orphanages and she found an unsponsored orphanage called the Little Angels in Uganda.

They don´t have cooking facilities, and cook on an open fire on the floor, and have seven or eight children per bunk bed, which are just slats of wood without mattresses. The children don´t have any pens or paper, and the school is just rubble with a blackboard. Kat coming from a background of fostering children and working with young offenders, this was something on a scale she had never seen before. So she made it her point to find out how bad it really was, and to put it out there and she thought she would love to volunteer with them, which she has planned to do.

She is holding a charity event at Molly’s Roadhouse in Coin on February 4th and has set up a Gofundme to raise money for the orphanage.

Who Needs Dependence?!

We are delighted to have just reserved a most beautiful cortijo deep in the countryside in Granada province for a young couple looking to do something new. The couple purchasing are part of a growing ‘breed’ of clients. These clients have discovered, since Covid, that they can work from home – all they need is a good internet connection. But that’s ALL they need from anyone else, as this group of people don’t want to be dependent on others, they want to be SELF SUFFICIENT!

And what better place to do this than in the countryside of Andalusia?

A house that is self sustainable – solar and photovoltaic power generation, natural spring or well water, lots of land on which to grow one’s own vegetables and fruit, keep chickens and goats.. but still work from home on something else if they want … it’s paradise! All you need is to be young or fit, full of the joys of life and the outdoors, and lots of enthusiasm, and this group of people are bubbling over with all of these wonderful traits!

This particular couple were lucky to find a house that meets all of these requirements already. But of course, it is equally possible to create your own independent world in almost any country house. All you need is a little fertile land, a house that can be insulated, and your own water source. We hope to be offering more of just such properties, so if you have one that might fit this new group of house hunters, do get in touch!

We are certainly living in interesting times and Covid, for all its negativities, has made many people think again about the modern way of living. Perhaps this new trend of people, who are looking for comfort, the latest self-sufficiency technology and a new way of life, will become a definite growth trend as we move further into this new, and different century. We are planning to be ready to offer just such solutions in what is still an amazing and beautiful part of the world.
