About Alma

Alma was founded in 1997 by Tony Richardson and Amanda Oswick. They had worked together at top marketing agency CNA with a client list including US drinks company Seagram (brands included Absolut Vodka, Chivas Regal, Martell Cognac, Mumm Champagne); Philip Morris International (Marlboro, Merit) and Estee Lauder (Estee Lauder, MAC, DKNY, Clinique). The agency specialised in the global luxury goods, duty-free and travel retail markets and as a result the pair built up significant knowledge and contacts across the travel and luxury goods sectors. When Alma was started then these two business areas were natural places to focus.

Alma’s approach

We believe firmly in making sure all our publications have outstanding design and editorial qualities - but before all this we ensure the magazine or book is really doing what the client wants. Our marketing background ensures we strive to achieve the maximum communication and brand value for each publication. With customer magazines (b2b or consumer) in particular we take great care to match the look and feel of the magazine directly to the client’s target audience whist staying true to the core values of the company or brand involved. Alma: Customer publishing - B2B

Alma has clients in both the b2b sector and consumer (b2c) sector who use branded magazines as a primary means of communication with their key customers. In b2b these range from major sports organisations such as Arsenal and Wembley Stadium; to architectural and property projects such as The Power Station, Station London, Spinningfields in Manchester and Bullring in Birmingham. A1 magazine for example is published twice each year for Land Securities (Europe’s largest property company) to communicate with the leading retail brands and operators in the UK market.

Alma: Customer publishing - B2C

In consumer circles we create and publish magazines that meet specific marketing needs, for example: Helvetia+ is a new fashion/lifestyle title created for the Swiss luxury brands Bally and La Prairie, Prairie currently being readied for a late 2010 launch it will be distributed in airport shops and by mail to the two brands key customers. Glenfiddich 365 magazine has been developed for customers of the world’s best selling malt whisky. It is distributed at 30 of the world’s busiest international airports. The O2 is for the corporate guests and VIPs attending events at London’s new O2 Arena in the former ‘Dome’. CHIC is a customer magazine in development for investors in the Dominion Chic fund. The fund only invests in luxury brands and companies.

Alma: Travel & Travel Retail

Alma’s roots in the luxury goods and fashion sector, and in particular, the travel-retail arena have never been forgotten. In consumer circles we work alongside several international brands and companies who are keen to communicate with existing and new customers in the travel environment. In b2b terms, we produce our own highly regarded trade publication - The Decision Makers - as well as providing contract publications for the leading trade associations and their exhibitions.

Alma: Design & Editorial

For many of our magazines we work with our partner agencies Deep and Hudson Wright, both award winning design houses. This, we feel, brings our magazines an important objective creative flavour helping to balance the branding requirements of a customer magazine with the need to both ‘wow’ and engage the readers. For editorial we always commission bespoke, original editorial and features from well established and experienced journalists many of whom are regular contributors to leading national and international newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and online media. In-house our experienced senior editor oversees and commissions all editorial. POPULOUS Issue 2 2010


Alma: Project management

Alma provides a dedicated and personal service to all its clients. Each project and subsequent publication is individually managed with professionals to oversee each stage - from initial concept, design, editorial, approval, production and distribution. Alma also has an in-house advertising sales team with experience in most key international markets. For clients wishing to fund their magazine with third-party advertising support we can provide a simple, professional and highly costeffective solution.
