The Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP provides service members and their spouses the training and tools to help them have a smooth transition into civilian life. The program covers three major topics – career search, job exploration and interview preparation – which should be informative enough to help you find the right place.
Focus on Transferable Skills
During your military career, you are likely to have developed a particular skill set that can be useful in a non-military role. For instance, if you were a communication specialist, think how your interpersonal skills can be used in a corporate boardroom.
Network Widely
It is important to network with veterans already in the corporate world who might know a thing or two about post-military life. Do not just send online applications – they rarely work well these days because there are too many applications. Instead, interact freely with individuals in the same boat and aim at extracting maximum information from them.
Tony Tata is an experienced army veteran who has established a successful post-military career as a novelist.
