前言 Introduction 第一屆國際共襄創意學院 (Toolbox

International Creative Academy, TICA) 將在 2019 年 1 月 7 日至 12 日於香港舉行，我們將探索弦樂和打擊樂的創新表演技巧。 TICA 是香港藝術團體敲擊襄及美國俄克拉荷馬大學聯合主辦，與香港教育大學及青年廣場協同辦理的年度活動，來自世界各地的學員一同參加音樂訓練課程。本屆共襄創意學院以打擊及弦樂為主軸，辦理一系列工作坊、大師班、論壇以及音樂會等活動，等您一同探索和享受。 TICA 打擊課程由芝加哥交響樂團首席定音鼓手大衛賀伯特 (David Herbert) 指導。 TICA 弦樂課程由多倫多塞西利亞弦樂四重奏的和敏貞 (Min-Jeong Koh) 及香港浸會大學的嚴天成博士 (Patrick Yim) 共同指導。 TICA 由香港藝術發展局和美國駐港澳總領事館資助。

The 1st edition of Toolbox International Creative Academy (TICA) will take place in Hong Kong between 7-12 January 2019, where we explore Innovative Performance Technique on Strings and Percussion. TICA is an annual event organized by Toolbox Percussion, Copresented by the University of Oklahoma and in association with the Education University of Hong Kong, with participants from all over the world. A full list of concerts, lectures, panel discussion, workshops is waiting for you all to explore and enjoy. TICA's percussion program is led by David Herbert, Principal Timpanist of Chicago Symphony. TICA's string program is co-led by Min-Jeong Koh of Cecilia String Quartet and Patrick Yim of Hong Kong Baptist University. TICA is a Toolbox Percussion Initiative, it is supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong and Macau.

關於敲擊襄

About Toolbox Percussion 敲擊襄自 2012 年以來，一直在本地及海外致力推動擊樂文化節目，策劃多元化及具藝術視野之項目。樂團不斷為當代音樂樂手帶來新衝擊，並以創新的方式培育年輕音樂人才。

敲擊襄作為具創造潛力的文化機構，致力透過與本地作曲家委約作品、發展、合作、專業培訓、表演、錄製和巡迴演出當代作品來創作新音樂。橫跨 3 個創作年度的「敲擊襄三部曲」，完成多場創新及具難度的展演，促進了與世界級音樂家間的文化交流，開拓了一系列專業樂手發展培訓。在 2018/19 樂季，敲擊襄把樂團作品帶到韓國光州亞洲文化中心，並參演三藩市國際藝術節首演。敲擊襄來年重要的藝術教育頭炮－敲擊襄國際創意學院（ Toolbox International Creative Academy, 簡稱 TICA ）將於 2019 年 1 月舉行，聯動美國俄克拉何馬大學的支持，鋪墊專業樂手培育工作。敲擊襄現為香港藝術發展局一年資助團體。

Toolbox Percussion has been driving percussive arts programming in Hong Kong since 2012, curating ambitious music projects and challenging the best in the field whilst also continually nurturing new musical talent in innovative ways. Toolbox Percussion, as creative incubator, works to make new music happen by commissioning, developing, collaborating, professional training, performing, recording and touring contemporary performances. The acclaimed Toolbox Percussion Trilogy, spread over a time span of 3-year, has been a proven success in creating cutting-edge and innovative programmes that challenged local artists, enhanced cultural exchange by collaborating with world-class musicians and developed a series of outreach and professional educational activities. For 2018/19 season, Toolbox Percussion will be on tour to Asia Culture Center at Gwangju in South Korea and make its US debut at the San Francisco International Arts Festival. A New education initiatives Toolbox International Creative Academy (TICA) in joint effort with the University of Oklahoma is set to launch in January 2019, providing professional apprenticeship opportunity through specifically focused area of studies and learning occasions with industry professionals. Toolbox Percussion is currently one-year grantee of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, an integral part of the University of Oklahoma, recognizes the universal language of the arts and its crucial role in creating and sustaining a vibrant, culturally diverse environment. The College is committed to a standard of excellence in the fine arts encompassing the University’s mandate for teaching, research/ creative activity, and service. The faculty, staff and students are dedicated to the promotion of the arts within the state of Oklahoma, the nation, and the international community. The first courses in fine arts at the University of Oklahoma were given as early as 1893 in what was called the Musical Department, which was renamed the School of Music in 1899. The addition of courses in painting, drawing, oratory and dramatic work dictated a change of name to the School of Fine Arts in 1903. Established as the College of Fine Arts in 1924, the fourth college founded at the university. Today, the college offers the largest and most comprehensive fine arts program in the state and the region. The college faculty, with 104 members, is the second largest faculty at the University of Oklahoma. The faculty consists of artists and scholars who are outstanding in their fields and committed to the education of young artists. The college is composed of the OU School of Visual Arts, School of Dance, the Peggy V. Dow Helmerich School of Drama, School of Music and the A. Max Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre. Because the college is part of a major research university, students profit from many opportunities to study in areas outside the arts.

青年廣場乃香港特別行政區政府民政事務局轄下之項目，貫徹當局促進社會和諧共融及提升公民素質的理想及使命。這個項目由新世界設施管理有限公司負責管理及營運，讓青年擁有理想的場地以盡情發揮所長，從而令青年廣場成為香港青年發展活動的中心。青年廣場備有多元化的設施，包括綜藝館、劇場、多用途空間、旅舍、零售商鋪及辦公室等，以配合青年發展活動。

Youth Square is a project commissioned by the HKSAR Government’s Home Affairs Bureau, and aims to realize the Bureau’s vision and purpose in promoting social harmony and civic education. The project is managed and operated by New World Facilities Management Company Limited. Target to become the perfect venue for youth to fully develop their potential, Youth Square provides wide range of facilities including theatre, studio, multi-purpose area, hostel, retail shops and offices to facilitate youth development activities.

Mountains, rivers, alone with houses, human, trees, stones, paths, which in different weather and seasons offer a diversity of scenes. The same in music, the textures, ornaments, combinations and so on are showing absolutely a common area in related to painting, especially Chinese Landscape Paintings, which always bring the spectators into the contents. In this Duo, cello is a foundation, the river with no doubt, and the percussions are always appearing around cello part, just like the occurrence upon the river.

Johanna Ruotsalainen (1983–) is Finnish composer and visual artist. Ruotsalainen is a senior lecturer in composition in Oulu University of Applied Sciences.

Kev Wong is currently a senior in the Music

Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Wong concentrates in music composition, under the tutelage of Prof. Victor Chan, Prof. Wendy Lee and Dr. Kaiyoung Chan. Recently, his“ Scattered Spiral” written for wind quintet, was awarded the second prize in New Generation 2018, which was broadcast by Radio Television Hong Kong(RTHK). His“ Signal”written for string quartet was read by Mivos Quartet, during their reading session held in CUHK in 2018. Tianyang Zhang entered Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2013 and learned composition with Prof. YE Guohui. From October 2016 to July 2017, he had his oneyear exchange in Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and studied with Prof. Fredrik Schwenk. TPICC honorable Mention Ivy Zhong is an Education Major in Composition concentration at the School of Music of, South China Normal University. Her mentors include Prof. Xu Yue-Xiang, Mr. Cong Long and Dr. Chen Yeung-ping.

Toolbox Percussion International Composition Competition (TPICC) aims to explore the possibilities in the collaboration between percussion and other instruments. Through international call for participation, in the first year, the competition focuses on percussion and strings. The Herbert Composition Prize, named after our Honorary President Prof. David Herbert, features works that are written for percussion and cello, for which the three final works are performed by Prof. David Herbert and Oliver Herbert, the top prize winner of the XI Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition.

David Herbert

Chicago Symphony TICA-Percussion Program, Chair David Herbert is currently principal timpani of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a post he has held since July 2013 after being appointed by Music Director Riccardo Muti. Prior to joining the CSO, he served as principal timpanist of the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) and the New World Symphony. He is widely considered a leader of cutting-edge solo timpani repertoire, accomplishing many commissions and world premiere performances every year. Herbert is sought after as a chamber musician and clinician around the world and has conducted master classes throughout North America, Japan, China, and Europe.

Min-Jeong Koh

Cecilia String Quartet TICA — String Program, Co-Chair Praised for her “extreme versatility” and “simply unbeatable beauty of tone” (Berliner Zeitung), Dr. Min-Jeong Koh maintains a busy schedule as concert violinist, violist, and educator. As first violinist of the Cecilia String Quartet, Dr. Koh won First Prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, 2nd Prize at the Osaka International Music Competition, and the Prix de la Sacem at the Bordeaux String Quartet Competition. With the ensemble, Dr. Koh has performed across Europe, Asia, and North America. she is currently Associate Professor of Violin at University of Oklahoma’s School of Music.

Adrian Fung

Associate Dean, The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, University of Oklahoma Recognized as one of Musical America’s 30 Innovators of the Year, Adrian Fung is an awardwinning cellist, educator, and arts administrator. Mr. Fung is Associate Dean at the University of Oklahoma’s Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts. Adrian's activities include teaching arts entrepreneurship, as well as the creation of an innovative Arts Incubation Lab and a new graduate program in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship offered in collaboration with Price College of Business. As the founding cellist of the critically acclaimed Afiara Quartet, Mr. Fung is a winner of the Concert Artist Guild International Competition, Young Canadian Musicians Award. Mr. Fung recently served as Vice President for Innovation at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Fung earned a Bachelor of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory, the Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School, and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Prof. Patrick Yim

Hong Kong Baptist University TICA — String Program, Co-Chair Honolulu-born violinist Patrick Yim is Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University, and has performed as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral violinist throughout the world. He made his solo debut with the Honolulu Symphony after winning the Honolulu Symphony Concerto Competition. He has performed in the violin sections of the Hawaii Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra, among others. He has performed with the Contemporary Chamber Players (New York) and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. Yim has taught violin and chamber music and has taught masterclasses and workshops in the United States, Denmark, Iceland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China.

奧利弗・賀伯特得獎大提琴演奏家共襄藝術家

Oliver Herbert

Award-Winning Cellist TICA Artist Originally from San Francisco, Oliver Herbert is a young cellist who aspires to share the beauty and thrill of classical music with others through innovative programing and a constant search to connect with diverse audiences. Mr. Herbert’s most recent concerto performances include debuts with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and San Jose Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Herbert is the first prize winner of the 2015 Klein International String Competition, and also the recipient of the Pablo Casals Bach Prize at the same event. As an orchestral cellist, Mr. Herbert currently serves as the Associate Principal cellist of Symphony In C in addition to his post as the Principal cellist of the Eastern Sierra Symphony. He also continues to perform regularly with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra.

Gina DiBello

Chicago Symphony TICA Lecturer Gina DiBello was appointed to to the first violin section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2013. Previously, she was Principal Second Violin of the Minnesota Orchestra for four seasons and prior to that, a member of the first violin section of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Gina then went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music and The Juilliard School in New York. Recent chamber music recordings include Asako Hirabayashi’s “The Harpsichord in the New Millenium” and Kalevi Aho’s Clarinet Quintet. An advocate of contemporary music, DiBello is a founding member of the collective New Music Detroit. Other recent appearances include concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Felix Ungar

TICA Artist

American violist and teacher Felix Ungar has performed as soloist and chamber musician at concert halls around the world. With extensive performance experiences, Ungar has given masterclasses and lectures. He has performed at music festivals. Ungar holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. In conjunction with his undergraduate studies. A winner of many prizes and scholarships, Ungar spent one year in Taiwan commissioning and premiering nine works for viola and studying viola pedagogy as a Fulbright Scholar. Ungar teaches in the Senior and Junior programmes at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and is an Artist-Teacher and Lecturer at HKBU.

張立德廣州交響樂團共襄學院導師

Ian Ding

New Music Detroit TICA Lecturer Percussionist Ian Ding is a versatile and indemand performer specializing in contemporary music and orchestral percussion. He is a founding member and co-director of New Music Detroit, a member of the Fulcrum Point New Music Project (Chicago) and the Virgil Moorefield Pocket Orchestra (Zurich), and serves on the percussion faculty at the DePaul University School of Music. Ian is a frequent guest with major orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Besides his work as a percussionist, Ian also composes and produces soundtracks for documentary ﬁlms. His work has been shown on PBS and on display at the Honolulu Academy of Art, the Yale School of Architecture, and the United States Embassy in Berlin, Germany.

Lider Chang

Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra TICA Lecturer A native Taiwanese, Lider Chang was appointed principal timpanist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Chang received his second master’s degree in Percussion at Carnegie Mellon University. In January 2014, he premiered Michael Daugherty’s timpani concerto “Raise the Roof” in China with Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Besides orchestral music, he is a versatile percussionist whose wide performance repertoire ranges from playing drum-set with several jazz and pop groups to playing contemporary music with Guangzhou Percussion Ensemble. As a dedicated educato, he coaches Guangzhou Youth Orchestra and Taipei Youth Wind Symphony.

Scott Verduin

Seoul Philharmonic TICA Lecturer Scott is currently the assistant principal percussionist and assistant timpanist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea. Previously, he was member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic from 2012-2016. Scott earned his Bachelor of Music in performance from The University of Michigan and also attended Temple University. As a soloist, he has performed with the South Bend Symphony after being named the winner of their Young Artist Competition in 2007. Scott has been a music fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and has also spent summers at the Pacific and Aspen music festivals.

Ksenija Komljenović

Faculty of ISF Academy TICA Lecturer

Dr. Ksenija Komljenović (Belgrade, Serbia) obtained the Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Illinois State University in 2014, followed by the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami in 2017, thus becoming the first woman from Serbia with a doctorate in the field. Ksenija's research focused on the position and perception of female percussionists in the Western World. Ksenija is a recipient of the American Association of University Women International Scholarship, as well as a two-time winner of the Philanthropic Educational Organization’s International Peace Scholarship. She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 2018 by the Frost School of Music.

敲擊襄 Toolbox Percussion 邵俊傑敲擊襄創辦人兼藝術總監。前澳門樂團首席敲擊樂手，香港創樂團創團成員之一。於香港中文大學及三藩市音樂學院學習。現為香港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團的特約樂手，並任教於香港中文大學。

許莉莉前廣州交響樂團擊樂手。畢業於香港演藝學院及卡內基美隆大學。現為澳門樂團、香港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團的特約樂手，並任教於澳門演藝學院、澳門青年交響樂團及澳門青年管樂團。

Louis Siu

The founder and artistic director of Toolbox Percussion, Louis Siu was the principal percussionist of the Macao Orchestra and one of the founding members of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. His orchestral appearances include concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He currently serves as part-time instructor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Lei-lei Hoi

Former percussionist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Lei Lei Hoi is the recipient of Macao Foundation scholarship. She graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Carnegie Mellon University. She is holding teaching positions at the Macao Conservatory, the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Macau Youth Symphony Band.

Ivan Wan

Wan, graduated from the Colburn School in Los Angeles with his bachelor and master of Music. Previously studying at the Boston Conservatory with scholarship and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, he was trained under Shaun Tilburg (the former principal percussion of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), Sophia Woo, Alan Cumberland and later under Jack Van Geem (the former principal percussion of San Francisco Symphony).

陳彤曾為敲擊襄實習樂手計劃成員 , 曾多次參與敲擊襄海外巡演。陳氏畢業於英國曼徹斯特皇家北方音樂學院 , 師隨 BBC 愛樂樂團敲擊首席 Paul Patrick 及皇家利物浦愛樂樂團定音鼓前首席 Ian Wright。他在學期間獲頒利茲音樂學院獎學金。陳氏曾合作演出單位包括廣州交響樂團、香港城市室樂團和愛樂室樂管樂團。

林天俊曾為敲擊襄實習樂手計劃成員 , 曾多次參與敲擊襄海外巡演。林氏正在香港浸會大學攻讀音樂學學士學位 , 師隨香港管弦樂團敲擊樂手胡淑徽女士。林氏參加了不同的合奏。他被任命為香港浸會大學交響樂團、香港浸會大學管樂團、香港管樂協會專業導師管樂團、香港浸會大學敲擊樂團等的敲擊樂手。林氏積極參與敲擊樂交流活活動 , 曾於澳門文化中心音樂廳和鹿兒島中央音樂廳演出。

Brian Chan

Former Toolbox Percussion associate artist, active player in overseas performance with Toolbox Percussion and recent graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, Chan has studied with world-renowned percussionists including Paul Patrick, percussion principal of BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Ian Wright, former timpani principal of Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been awarded the Friends Scholarship in Leeds College of Music. He performed with the Guangzhou Symphony, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia.

孫穎麟孫穎麟為現時港澳最活躍的薩克管青年演奏家之一。2001 年獲全額獎學金入讀倫敦吉爾德霍爾音樂及戲劇學院，並獲該校頒發獎學金進修碩士課程，2006 年以優異成績畢業。孫穎麟曾以獨奏者身份不同藝術單位合作演出，他回港澳至今已參與超過一百場海內外演奏會。孫穎麟現為法國 “ Buffet Crampon” 和“ Vandoren Paris ”的品牌藝術家。並任教於澳門演藝學院、香港演藝學院及香港浸會大學。

Timothy Sun

Active saxophone young artist in Hong Kong and Macau, he became the first Chinese saxophone and clarinet student of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under a full scholarship in 2001 and in 2006 completed his Master’s degree under a school scholarship. In recent seasons, Sun has appeared in more than 100 recitals and orchestral concerts in Asia and Europe. Timothy Sun is one of the artists of the “Buffet Crampon” and “Vandoren Paris” He is currently saxophone lecturer coach at the Macau Conservatory, Hong Kong Academy for performing arts and the Baptist University.

Jacky Lam

Former Toolbox Percussion associate artist, active player in overseas performance with Toolbox Percussion and undergraduate of music department in the Hong Kong Baptist University under the teaching of Ms. Sophia Woo, Lam has been appointed as the percussionist of Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Baptist University Wind Symphony, Hong Kong Band Directors Wind Orchestra and Hong Kong Baptist University Percussion Ensemble. Lam actively participated in exchange programme taken place at Macao Culture Centre Concert Hall and Kagoshima Central Concert Hall.

《 R/E‧MIX 》敲擊樂二重奏《 R/E•MIX》敲擊樂二重奏由香港著名青年音樂家鄭美君小姐與王偉文先生於 2010 年成立，兩人都是香港演藝學院的音樂演奏碩士並同任教於香港演藝學院青少年音樂課程。二重奏成立之初，已獲香港蕭邦社邀請於香港大會堂演奏巴托克•貝拉雙鋼琴與雙敲擊之協奏曲而大獲好評。除此之外，《 R/E•MIX》敲擊樂二重奏也在多家學校主持工作坊，推廣普及敲擊樂。

RE•Mix RE•Mix is a percussion duo comprised of renowned musicians Raymond Vong and Emily Cheng, both Master of Music graduates of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). Raymond and Emily currently serves as teaching faculty members of the HKAPA. In first stage, RE•Mix received very high acclaim with staging several performances on Bartok’s “Concerto for two Pianos and Percussion” in one of which they were invited by the Chopin Society of Hong Kong to perform in Hong Kong City Hall. For music education, they conducted workshops in schools for students and teachers to popularize percussion music.

Ken Ueno

Rome Prize and Berlin Prize winner Ken Ueno is a composer, vocalist and sound artist. Ueno’s collaborators include the Hilliard Ensemble, Kim Kashkashian and Robyn Schulkowsky, Steve Schick and SFCMP, and Frances-Marie Uitti. His music has been performed at venues and festivals around the world. Collaborating with architects Thomas Tsang and Patrick Tighe and artist, Angela Bulloch, his sound installations have been installed at MUAC, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Art Basel, and at SCI-Arc. Ueno is currently a Professor in Music at UC Berkeley, where he holds the Jerry and Evelyn Hemmings Chambers Distinguished Professorship in Music. His bio appears in The Grove Dictionary of American Music.

James Boznos

A performer, composer and conductor, James Boznos performs throughout Asia, North America and Europe. Prior to his appointment as Principal Timpanist of the HK Phil in 2000, Boznos worked regularly with the Chicago Symphony. James is on staff with Hong Kong University and The Academy for the Performing Arts, and has also been a frequent guest principal with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony. OZNO (nom de plume) has written music for orchestra, chamber, solo, vocal, electronic genres as well as for the theatre. Recent premieres in Hong Kong have included: “Locutions of Dune”, for saxophone quartet; “Zoon” , for solo percussionist and iPod; his first symphony “Staircase of the Tian-Wang”, for 16 antiphonal instruments, synthetic orchestra and tape; “Google”, for orchestra; and his first cantata, etc.

林丰

2005 年，英國廣播公司愛樂團在詹姆斯．麥克米蘭指揮下演奏其管弦作品《明》的世界首演，由是聲名鵲起，其後作品由紐西蘭交響樂團、香港小交響樂團、深圳交響樂團及曼哈頓音樂學院樂團演出。林丰是英國廣播公司有史以來委約作曲的首位香港作曲家，以及最年輕的華人作曲家。2007 年，他獲英國廣播公司音樂會管弦樂團委約創作《解》，作品靈感來自維多利亞與阿爾伯特博物館一個以鎖為主題的展覽，由查里斯哈索活特指揮英國廣播公司音樂會管弦樂團首演。不久林丰便獲第二個委約，創作小品《 BE 》(2008)，在倫敦南岸中心演出。 2009 年，作品《湧》由羅斯指揮倫敦交響樂團演出，作品次年在亞洲音樂節，由作曲家親自指揮東京愛樂團再演。2010 年，香港管弦樂團委約創作《融》，在上海世博會中由迪華特指揮樂團作世界首演。2012 年林丰獲英國廣播公司第三度委約創作受達爾文影響的《無盡藏》，作品於 2012 年 7 月在「夏日逍遙音樂會」系列中作世界首演，由奧里姆指揮英國廣播公司愛樂團在皇家阿爾伯特堂演出。2014 年香港管弦樂團將在梵志登的指揮下演奏他第二首香港管弦樂團委約創作的作品。林丰 1979 年出生於香港，在修咸頓及蘇塞克斯大學研習作曲，先後追隨畢特勒、芬尼斯、斯夫．哥頓學習；2012 年取得博士學位，同年獲香港藝術發展局頒發藝術新秀獎。 www.funglam.com

Fung Lam

Fung Lam first came to attention in 2005 when the BBC Philharmonic under James MacMillan gave the world premiere of his orchestral work Illumination, which was subsequently performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and Manhattan School of Music Symphony. He holds the distinction of being the youngest Chinese composer (and the first from Hong Kong) to be commissioned by the BBC, when, in 2007, he was invited to write a work for the BBC Concert Orchestra. Unlocking, which took inspiration from an exhibition of locks at the Victoria and Albert Museum, was given its premiere under Charles Hazlewood. A second BBC commission quickly followed: the miniature BE (2008) was heard at the Southbank Centre. In 2009, his work Yong (“Surge”) was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra the following year, at the Asian Music Festival by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the composer. A commission for the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Rong (“Harmony”), was given its premiere at the World Expo Shanghai in 2010. His third BBC commission, the Darwinian influenced Endless Forms, received its world premiere at the BBC Proms in 2012, by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo. 2014 sees the premiere of his second commission for the Hong Kong Philharmonic, under Jaap van Zweden. Fung Lam studied composition with Martin Butler, Michael Finnissy and Michael Zev Gordon at the Universities of Southampton and Sussex in UK, and was awarded a DPhil in composition from the latter in 2012. In the same year he received the Young Artist Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

作曲家 Featured Composers 曾葉發曾葉發生於香港，是活躍於本地及國際樂壇的現代音樂創作及推廣者。他是香港作曲家聯會的創會主席，1990 至 1996 年期間擔任國際現代音樂協會及亞洲作曲家聯盟的副會長，並于 2002 年 10 月獲選為國際現代音樂協會會長，是該會自 1923 年創會以來首位非歐裔人士會長。曾葉發是音樂教育家亦是資深的電臺工作者，曾任香港教育大學文化與創意藝術系教授，香港電台第四台總監及英文台台長等職位。

葉浩堃葉浩堃是活躍國際的香港作曲家，作品曾於多個國家演出。他的創作極為多元化，從大型樂團到純電子音樂、從傳統西方配器到民族器樂，在在顯出他對不同類型音樂的認知及創意。葉氏曾參與多個國際音樂節，並與多位國際級知名演奏家及樂團合作。葉浩堃於加州大學柏克萊分校（高級榮譽）畢業後回港，於香港大學修畢哲學碩士（作曲）學位，師隨陳錦標博士於香港大學完成修讀博士（哲學）學位。葉氏是北川詹姆斯紀念音樂獎學金、校董和校長獎學金、亨利 · 霍爾布魯克獎學金、詹姆斯 · 京獎學金、艾斯納獎、米爾頓 · C · 威策爾紀念獎、大學研究生獎學金及黃麗松獎學金的得主。葉浩堃憑樂曲「破繭」，獲頒 2017 香港作曲家及作詞家協會「CASH 金帆音樂獎」的「最佳正統音樂作品」

Richard Tsang

Professor Richard Tsang has been for many years the Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild and Vice-Chairman of the Asian Composers’ League (ACL); and since 2013 an Honorary Member of the ACL. From 200208, he was elected President of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM), the first non-European to hold this position since the society’s establishment in 1923. Professor Tsang has served as Dean of Students and Professor of the Education University of Hong Kong, actively involved in the research and promotion of Creative Musicking concept and practices. Over the years, Tsang has been active in the promotion of contemporary music and has organized many international exchange events and festivals in this field.

Austin Yip

Born in Hong Kong, Austin Yip’s works have been performed worldwide. His musical creations are very diverse, ranging from orchestral piece to electroacoustic works, from Western orchestral to folk instruments. All the above shows his knowledge and creativity upon different styles of music.Yip received his PhD and Master of Philosophy degrees at the University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Chan. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) degree from the University of California, Berkeley with a “high distinction in general scholarship”, and a FTCL in composition. Yip is the holder of James Kitagawa Memorial Music Scholarship, Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship, Henry Holbrook Scholarship, James King Scholarship, Eisner Prize, Milton C. Witzel Memorial Prize, Rayson Huang Scholarship and CASH Best Commissioned Piece Award.Yip has participated in numerous

梁智軒梁智軒生於香港。受其多樣性的文化背景所影響，梁氏的創作揉合東方和西方的思想，亦特別熱衷於音色與織體的探索。他的作品及錄音由 Schott Music（德國）、MOECK（德國）、 Edition HH（英國）、PARMA Recordings（美國）、From The Top Music（美國）及牛津大學出版社（中國）出版。梁氏曾為牛津大學出版社教科書作曲家、香港管弦團音樂教育計劃《精靈音樂錦囊》作者，香港教育學院兼任講師、教育局新高中音樂科學校協作計劃導師、國際現代音樂節音樂創作工作坊導師等等，致力推廣音樂創作及創意音樂教育。畢業於香港中文大學、香港大學、香港教育學院及香港演藝學院，梁氏分別獲頒音樂博士（作曲）、音樂哲學碩士（作曲）、音樂教育（榮譽）學士及演藝專業文憑（電子音樂），曾考獲聖三一音樂學院作曲院士文憑（FTCL ）及音樂理論專業文憑（LMusTCL ）。梁氏現為香港教育大學講師、香港作曲家聯會（ HKCG）副主席及香港音樂教育家協會（ HAME）副會長。

Leung Chi-hin

Leung Chi-hin was born in Hong Kong. His compositions mix with both East and West thoughts, and with special interests in timbral and textural explorations. Leung’s compositions and recordings are published by Schott Music (Germany), MOECK (Germany), Edition HH (U.K.), PARMA Recordings (U.S.), From the Top Music (U.S.), Oxford University Press (China) and Hong Kong Composers’ Guild. H Leung was a composer of the Oxford University Press, author of Creative Notes and Keys to Music of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, lecturer of the Education Bureau School Collaboration Scheme of Music Training for Senior Secondary Students and instructor of ISCM Education Music Creativity Campaign. Leung received his Doctor of Music (Composition) degree, Master of Philosophy (Composition) degree, Bachelor of Education (Music) degree and Professional Diploma (Electronic Music) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts respectively. Leung holds FTCL in Music Composition and LMusTCL in Music Theory, Criticism and Literature. He is the Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild (HKCG) and Vice President of Hong Kong Association for Music Educators (HAME). He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, The Education University of Hong Kong.

Join us to explore the endless possibilities of percussion! This interactive exhibition will feature an authentic concert and an upcycled PET bottle xylophone. In addition, local musicians from Toolbox Percussion will be onsite on 16 March to help kids explore different sounds and tones.
