FUTSAL
The school continues our long involvement with school-based futsal through our relationships with the Australian Futsal Association, Football Queensland and Queensland School Futsal. All organisations provide opportunities in the school setting and afterschool. All futsal activities occur outside of the GPS levy meaning participating boys will be required to pay an event fee which includes registration fees, transport, and coaching costs.
High performance futsal players are selected to enter regional, state, and national events. Selected boys will miss school days and parents will need to approve these events via the Parent Lounge. All other community futsal players are encouraged to participate in local futsal competitions at USQ, Highfields or Downlands. These community events require parents and boys to form teams and pay directly to the tournament organisers. These competitions occur after school.
Term 1 School Futsal
An early cab off the rank in 2025 is a Term 1 futsal, Under 13, Under 15 & Opens futsal tournament at USQ from the Wednesday, 5 February to Wednesday, 19 March. These three teams will seek to select 7-9 players per age group. Parents will be required to deliver and collect boys from USQ. TGS boarders will be transported. Entry fees and coaching charges will apply. Teams will be formed in Week 1 during lunchtime selections.
Australian Futsal Association Regionals/FQ Regionals
Regional Championships for both versions of the game will occur in Term 1 or Term 2. Selection trials will aim to find nine players per age group with a travelling party of 7-9 players. This year all events will be levied to cover any registration or staffing costs. The Football Supporters’ Group have kindly donated some funds to assist with entry fees, however, parents will be required to accept and pay for participation through the Parent Lounge.
Australian Futsal Association State/FQ State Championships
Following regional competitions, the top two teams from each age group are subsequently invited to attend a state carnival in Brisbane. These championships may require parents to drive their boys to and from the event. These championships will occur in Term 3. Once again, some fees and charges will apply.
Australian Futsal Association State/FQ National Championships
National Championships occur in Term 4 and once again are dependent on qualification from state championships. Additional fees and charges will apply to cover registration and coaching costs. These championships will require daily commutes to Brisbane by parents.
Football Queensland Futsal
The state governing body, Football Queensland are now into their third official season of delivering school and community futsal tournaments and competitions. They too will run Regional, State and National competitions which the school will endeavour to participate in. All futsal competitions are on a user pays levy system.
