Char Dham Yatra: The Top 10 Brief Facts Travel

Chardham or the Four destination of God includes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri respectively, The Chardham yatra is the term used to symbolise the sacred pilgrimage to the religious places as undertaken by the Hindus every year. The Chardham Yatra starts from Yamunotri, and then it travels through the Gangotri, Kedarnath before ending at Badrinath. Here are the brief facts on the holy destination of Lord that pilgrims visit as part of Chardham Yatra. The Chardham or the Four Abodes are Most Prestigious divinity and visiting them also brings complete calm. Fact 1. ChardhamYatra is not con ned to the single division of devotees in Hindu Religion, While Yamunotri and Gangotri are dedicated to Goddess Devi, Badrinath is the holy site for Vaishnavas and Kedarnath is dedicated to the Lord Shiva.


Fact 2. The holy Yatra comprises of a Parikrama, a sacred pilgrimage from West to East. It begins from Yamunotri Temple, lying in the west of Garhwal, and the devotees passes to Gangotri Temple. From here, they begin to Kedarnath Temple and the Parikrama nally ends at Badrinath Temple, which is situated in the east of the region. Fact 3. One of the important spots in the pilgrimage is the Jalmagna Shivlinga, according to mythology, In this place, Ganga was held in the locks of Lord Shiva. The natural rock formation is situated near Gangotri temple and lies immersed in water, it becomes visible only when the level recedes in winter.

Fact 4. The original Kedarnath Temple was built by the Pandavas, who came here in search of Lord Shiva as they wanted to sorrow their deeds after the Mahabharata. This was the place where they found Lord Shiva and he left, leaving his hind part behind. A new temple was later built beside the original place. Fact 5. Originally, the idol of Lord Badrinath was located in a temple at the Guard Caves near the Tapt Kund. The idol was placed here By Adi Shankracharya, who found it in River Alaknanda. It was moved to its present location by the king of Garhwal much later.


Fact 6. Surya Kund is a natural spring of hot water situated near the glacier of Yamunotri. Amazingly though, the water here is so hot that even the Prasad can be cooked here in a matter of minutes. Fact 7. Tapt Kund, the hot spring below Badrinath Temple is popular to have curative properties and pilgrimages take a dip here before going to the temple. According to the legend, this spring is the abode of Lord Agni.

Fact 8. A different hot spring is situated at Gauri Kund, the temple is the place where Goddess Gauri performed yoga. The spot is also the base camp of the yatra to Kedarnath. Fact 9. The mythology says that a time will come that the temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath will no longer be accessible. In future, the mountains of Jaya and Vijay will emerge as the arm of Lord Narasingha will fall. The way to the temples will then be sealed and pilgrimages will worship at the Bhavishya Badri, close to Joshimath.


Fact 10 . Another spring located next to the Tapt Kund is the Narada Kund, another place where they bath before planning to the temple.

Summary: The Char Dham Yatra is the India’s four sacred Hindu pilgrimage located at the 4 corners of the country. According to Hindu myths, undertaking a journey to the Chardham helps one to clean away sins and get moksha. 
