In offering her advice to those seeking out financial planning assistance, the firm’s founder Diane Verhalen recommends taking a similar approach.

“Do some research on common questions to ask and come to the meeting prepared to interview your prospective financial planner so they can attempt to earn your business,” she suggested. “Also, reach out to multiple people in the profession and see who is most responsive for an initial meeting. Beware anyone who only offers one solution to your goal.”

After earning her degrees in finance and accounting, Verhalen has served as an independent financial professional ever since. And throughout her career, she has developed the skills necessary to work with clients and act as their financial advocate.

“I’ve had several good mentors along the way and the best lesson I’ve learned is to listen more than I talk,” she recalled. “If you listen to people and help them with what they actually care about, then you can work toward earning their trust.”
