With uniquely-crafted tables, stools, stands, bar carts, trays and more, Lane Moore is refurbishing bourbon barrels to instill Kentucky’s heritage and culture directly into timeless decor at his business Oak and Moore.

“I knew I desired to have a career that was specific to where I wanted to live,” Moore told KSR earlier this year, describing his decision to launch Oak and Moore as a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky. “Since bourbon is huge in Kentucky, I thought, ‘Why not make things from bourbon barrels?,” since I’ve always liked working with my hands.”

Now, Moore’s creations have become wildly popular thanks to the pride he takes in his process and the quality of the resulting products. Each barrel he uses is dried to the perfect humidity to ensure the resulting crafts last and each product is engraved with the initials “KY” to demonstrate their authenticity. And this dedication to quality has been quickly recognized, as Moore earned the Patron’s Pick of the 2023 Masters of Craft Awards for Keeneland Mercantile.

As his expertise and business only grow from here, it’s clear that Moore is a craftsperson pushing Kentucky’s history into the next era.
