PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY OF HAMBURG
2517 Sir Barton Way #200 859. 543.2456 kidsteethofky.com
Children rarely enjoy having their teeth examined or cleaned, but at Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg, a team of dedicated doctors ensures that each patient receives the highest quality of care while minimizing the anxieties that many children have when it comes time for their dental care.
Dr. Rodney Jackson, Dr. Morgan Dillow, Dr. Michael Day, Dr. Amy Luley and Dr. Megan Haggerty are all graduates of the UK College of Dentistry, and have focused on expanding and honing their skill sets to serve patients as best they can. “All of our doctors completed additional years of training, beyond dental school, to specialize in providing dental care specific to children,” the Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg team explained. “Our office environment is not only kid friendly in design and activities, but it’s also technologically advanced. Caring for ‘little teeth’ is just as important as caring for permanent ones and starting the habit of oral health consciousness is important to ensuring a healthy smile for life.” With nearly 20 years of serving Lexington, this practice is the perfect blend of dedication to dentistry and to the unique needs of our youngest community members.

2ND CHANCE CLINIC
Lexington’s 2nd Chance Clinic opened in 2012 when three doctors saw the need in their community for a small office that could help patients and their loved ones overcome opioid addiction. Now, the team has grown and expanded into a 15,000-square foot location to better serve clients with a variety of treatment options. “2nd Chance is unique because of the team,” the founders explained. “When you walk in and join us, you and your loved ones become part of our family. Staff truly care and patients are able to develop strong relationships with their providers. We strive to create an encouraging and motivational environment at our facilities and are always looking to incorporate healthcare innovation into our practice. Drug overdoses have become the leading cause of injury death, increasing by 56.6% between 2013 and 2019. There were more than 70,000 confirmed drug overdose deaths in 2019, and of those, more than 70% involved an opioid. Those who take a high daily dosage of prescription pain relievers, like methadone, oxycodone or hydrocodone, are vulnerable to overdose and abuse of prescription opioids. Increases in overdose deaths are also associated with increases in maltreatment reports to child protective services and foster care placements. A 2017 report estimated that the total cost of the opioid epidemic in the U.S. is as high as $622.1 billion. “Substance misuse, particularly the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs along with heroin, methamphetamine and illicit fentanyl, remains one of the most critical public health and safety issues facing Kentucky,” explained Dr. Tran, when asked what motivates the team to do this work. “For years, the annual number of Kentuckians who died from drug overdoses steadily climbed, exacting a disastrous toll on families, communities, social services and economic growth. The chance to have a positive impact on Kentucky as a whole, as well as the stigma of addiction and addiction’s effect on Lexington all drive us to do this work.” Led by Dr. Tuyen Tran and Dr. Marvin Bishop, the clinic has made an ongoing commitment to providing quality care. Lynh Tran and Dr. Susan Bishop, DMD, and their children, are all deeply tied to the mission and have dedicated countless hours of support both behind the scenes and in official roles at the clinic. 2nd Chance Clinic continues to provide top-notch treatment for those in their care, and places an emphasis on gaining accreditations, certifications and memberships to several organizations which are aligned with their mission, following an evidence-based approach to addiction medicine to give patients the support and ability to overcome addiction and lead healthy lives. What began as a community-focused center where doctors could help their neighbors has quickly become one of the Lexington area’s most important healthcare businesses, with a unique and dedicated approach that emphasizes the latest thought leadership. As the need for addiction treatment grows, 2nd Chance Clinic will be there to help.
Dr. Eric Smith
Georgetown Bariatrics and Advanced Surgical Services offers the most comprehensive medical and surgical weight loss program in Central Kentucky, with Dr. Eric Smith leading the practice as a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon with specialization in robotic techniques. In fact, Dr. Smith, who is also the medical director of robotics for all Lifepoint Hospital facilities in the country, performs more robotic bariatric surgeries than anyone else in Kentucky, consistently ranking in the top 5% of all such surgeries performed in the country. “Having the opportunity to make an immediate impact in someone’s life by giving them the opportunity to overcome the disease of morbid obesity, which they have often battled for many years, is truly gratifying,” Dr. Smith said. As the second-most-prevalent preventable cause of death in the U.S., morbid obesity continues to take the lives of many who have more to give our community. Through his work at Georgetown Bariatrics and Advanced Surgical Services, Dr. Smith is hoping to change that. “With lifestyle changes and effective bariatric surgery, morbidly-obese patients have a 50-times better chance of long-term weight loss and non-obese lifestyles than compared to diet and exercise alone,” he said.
