As a board-certified OB/GYN physician with Axia Lexington Women’s Health, Dr. Allison Canavan is able to care for patients in numerous stages of their lives, from adolescence through their reproductive years and into perimenopause and menopause. It gives her the chance to do more than provide fertility care and perform surgery — she gets to truly know them.

“By providing individualized care for each specific patient, I get to know them personally, their stories and their specific needs,” Dr. Canavan reflected. “That’s part of why I enjoy being a physician: It allows me to connect with people immediately on an intimate level, sometimes at a vulnerable place. Then we can work to approach their personal health concerns together.”

Dr. Canavan practiced at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for eight years before bringing her expertise to Kenucky and, as a result, she has gained some unique insight into the future of her field.

“I am excited about the future of obstetrics and gynecology,” she enthused. “I’m interested to see patient education initiatives develop, including prenatal programs, postpartum anxiety and depression support and infertility care. Patient empowerment can make a world of difference, and education and exposure is paramount.”
