ESTETICA AFRO. Mizani turned up the heat by hosting their first exclusive client evening by treating them to an evening of luxury, inspiration and indulgence. The Mizani Style Exclusive, page 9-11, reports back on this glamorous event.

The evening was not only for the clients to network, but to create an opportunity for Mizani to show its gratitude.

Bongani Mabundo, Mizani Education Manager, recreated the Mizani 2013 trends which were a variety of genres from streeet styles to catwalk trends.

n true style, Mizani hosted its very first client evening in March this year, at the L’Oréal Technical Centre, in Woodmead, Johannesburg. The venue was beautifully adorned in luxurious black and gold décor, which created the setting for the cocktail event. Gold Tiffany chairs, which were arranged in fashion show style, allowed the models to walk down the aisles as they showed off their Mizani styled hair to the guests. Salon owners and stylists from the greater Gauteng region were invited to come together for a night of inspiring styles and cocktails. Even though it was a Johannesburg based event, clients from as far as East London, joined the other Mizani clients at this spectacular event. The purpose of the evening was not only for clients to network, but to create an opportunity for Mizani to show its gratitude to

its clients for all their support over the years and also to inspire them through the showcasing of Mizani’s latest hair trends for 2013. The trends were a variety of genres, from street styles to catwalk trends, afro, short and long relaxed hair. The talented Mizani creative team spent the entire day prepping beautiful models to showcase that evening. The highlight of the evening was the showcasing of the latest hair trends by Mizani Education Manager, Bongani Mabunda. His electrifying stage energy had the hairdressers begging for more as he called his creative team on stage to work their magic. The models, confident in their hairstyles, strutted down the aisles leaving the guests in awe. The General Manager of L’Oréal Professional Products Division, Jane Maclaren-Taylor, took to the stage to welcome all the guests and thank them for their

continued support for the brand. Followed by Lindelwa Gama, Product Manager of Mizani, who re-ignited the brand in the clients’ minds, assuring them that Mizani is still a brand that is committed to innovation and client support. She also took the opportunity to launch the Supreme Oil range to the clients, one of Mizani’s key launches for 2013. The glamorous evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all the guests. It was the perfect opportunity for Mizani hairdressers to come together, network and be inspired. The feedback and reaction from the event is evidence that the ethnic hair industry needs more events like this and according to Lindelwa, it won’t be the last, as Mizani plans to conquer the country with more inspiring events, possibly even on a bigger scale.

Mizani is still a brand that is committed to innovation and client support.

In September we will wish the talented winners of the Intercoiffure Foundation Guillaume photographic competition bon voyage, as they set off to Paris to participate in the junior forum and perform at the Intercoiffure Night of the Stars.

oundation Guillaume is the youth of Intercoiffure, consisting mostly of junior stylists working in the Intercoiffure salons. Once a year, a platform is created for younger stylists (under 27 years of age) to perform at the Intercoiffure International Annual General Meeting. In September this year, juniors will get together in Paris for a week. A generous sponsor, Schwarzkopf, has made it possible for two local junior stylists to attend this forum. In order for Intercoiffure South Africa to select two delegates, a photographic competition has been created. The theme this year was Dichotomy: the universe exists in a dichotomy, a harmonious dichotomy of the mutually exclusive and jointly exhaustive binary self. From male to female, good to evil,

life to death, without one there can be no other. The challenge was to combine two opposite elements and produce one image. A record amount of entries were received from Intercoiffure salons from all over South Africa.

The judging evening took place at the Schwarzkopf Academy in Cape Town where the difficult task of choosing a winner was left in the hands of the experts. Once again, the photographic competition had some of the best judges in the industry: Hugo Minnie, owner of Hugo The Hair Company, a well-known judge and competitor; Riana Stemmet, Director of the Stellenbosch Hairdressing Academy and an international competitor; and Lilene Pelser, ASK National Business Manager for Schwarzkopf, who has been with the company for 13 years. ESTETICA AFRO is thrilled to announce the winners for 2013: first place, Salome de Wet of Fusion Living, second place, Gareth Strydom of DNA Salon and third place, Billy-Jean de Jager of Playboy. Special thanks must go to Annelies, Belinda and the Schwarzkopf Professional team for their on-going support, assistance and commitment to this project and to Intercoiffure. Thanks to Schwarzkopf, Salome and Gareth will be heading off to Paris, with the costs of their flights, accommodation, spending money, workshops and shows being covered. All participants need to be congratulated for the very high standard of entries and creativity that was produced.

The exciting build-up to the Rebecca Summer Collection 2013 was exhilarating. Media, socialites, celebrities and key industry figures waited in anticipation to see the impressive hair styles.

t the end of last year, Rebecca Fashion International staged a lavish runway hair show, as the pièce de résistance to the culmination of an integrated brand awareness campaign, marking the launch of their newest range of hair extensions and wigs onto the South African market. Rebecca Fashion International represents two major product ranges in South Africa: Joedir premium 100 percent human hair products geared towards the higher LSM market, and Magic synthetic hair products. A global powerhouse with a firmly established brand presence in seven other African countries, as well as in countries across the globe, Rebecca sought to launch a brand awareness campaign that would make a big splash in South African waters.

With a month-long online and social media campaign, leading up to a star-studded fashion show at Monte Casino’s prestigious La Toscana in Johannesburg, the digital aspect of the campaign fulfilled two key roles: promoting the Joedir and Magic ranges themselves, as well as building excitement, momentum and buzz around the event. Their Facebook fan page ran a competition that gave fans the opportunity to win VIP tickets to the exclusive soiree. ESTETICA SA’s Editor, Cindy Horton, attended the exclusive event and was treated to true VIP style; chauffeured from the airport and escorted to the venue, where the Rebecca Fashion International team were waiting to personally greet guests on arrival. The event showcased the versatility of the product range. The pieces were styled into a combination of haute-couture, avant garde creations as well as flowing natural styles and were emphasised by equally dramatic designer garments. The show was a smashing success: hosted by the enchanting Elana Afrika, the Rebecca Summer Collection 2013 was attended by notable celebrities such as Letshego Rankin, Moira Mosimane and Lorna Potgieter-Rossetti, as well as representatives from a number of influential South African magazines, including ESTETICA SA, Seventeen, Destiny, Shimmer and Move. Guests were entertained by over 30 models, sporting twice as many different showstopping hairpiece looks. Electrifying music, laser shows and elementally-inspired themes further added to the theatrical atmosphere. A truly glamorous evening was had by all, cementing the
